Dangit people... way to make an enemy out of someone who quite possibly could have been pretty cool. I cannot even believe your holier than thou attitude. You know if I were them I'd feel pretty well justified in griefing everything I saw -- what with the welcome you just handed them. Geesh.

I read the same board you did and yea there were a bunch of people who thought it was all sex sex sex and disappointed that it wasn't GTA2 but there were also a number of people who noticed the key to success was learning and building. Its a board where people normally talk smack and I really was kind of impressed that a few people, especially the mod, noticed the potential of SL and had the guts to speak out about it. That takes a huge presence of mind and no small amount of maturity on this type of board.

However, did any of you bother to read the rest of it? Its a cool board! There's like tips on how to do graffitti, ink recipes, politics, events they go for, etc etc. Yeah a fair amount of it is talking smack but there's some neat stuff there. Y'all should read more of it before condeming this crew.

Grits -- Welcome to Second Life. Not everyone here thinks their poop comes wrapped up in celophane and pretty pink ribbons. Sorry bout your buddy but the rules is the rules and since you live in the US you must be aware of the ramifications of bringing someone underage into a mature environment. He'll be back in a month though, according to you, and no harm no foul -- y'know?

Oh and the bomb thing! {...}

So there's a lot of mutual misunderstanding going on.

A lot of people, and a whole lot of those who've been here a while, regard retaliation and the notion of shitting on somebody's property as childish. Also control fights. Complete wastes of time. Utterly unpleasant.

Why force such things on people who don't want them? There are places to fight, places to have feuds and vengeance wars, places to tag ("bomb" now? ok, bomb) and talk trash and play at shitting on people's property.

Most people are willing to cut a certain amount of slack for it. I'll just TP back in after being launched a time or sometimes two; I'll just mute people who can't understand I don't want to play the same game they do. That's usually enough.

Can I leave you with two points?

First: I haven't been in SL long, and the persistently annoying types have caused me enough grief that I'm spending time talking about it instead of playing. This isn't the fun part for me.

Second: there are a lot of people who have, as it turns out, discovered the power of flat-out lying about their intentions and behavior. They sound a lot like you, and then act in ways that draw unpleasant characterizations. You're going to have a lot of trouble getting past that.

You missed the part where I said the person that asked about this had never heard of the game, this is a graffiti website we are talking about, so no doubt he would ask if you could do graffiti in the game. He also did not end up joining SL.

Also, I don't have any intentions in the game. I have yet to accomplish anything but meet some very nice people. I could be lying I suppose, but then again you could have a penis growing out of your back. I really don't see your point.

Vivianne, in my own defense, you aren't the one who had to personally deal with some of these people. I'm sure if a couple of them fire-bombed your store or insulted and annoyed your customers you'd be very suspicious of anyone they associated with, too.

I knew Grits was a member of this group and I have made exception of him (without naming names) here in several of my posts even before he chimed in. He's a nice guy and has never struck me as being a moron like the friends I had to ban. Quirky, maybe, but I like quirky :)

But like in all things human -- it's not unusual to judge a group by the most obvious and noisome of the bunch. I still don't see anything on their board that makes me think they have much to offer, but it's also obvious from Grits and Mamski's posts here that there are exceptions. That's good to know. Exceptions noted.

I skipped a page. Whatever.

So let me understand somthing. People got banned for talking like they were in the mob and SAYING they wanted to shoot people in the face? People are getting banned for saying stupid stuff rather than actually...you know...doing it?

Quirky, maybe, but I like quirky :)

like me? ;)

-

i just had to bust my way out of hiding to make some comments here..

first of all.. the poop. i couldn't help but snicker when i read about "The Poop";(tm).. i was recently talking about SL to some punks (i don't mean snotty kids, i mean punks.. i was at a punk show and these were people in attendance.. you know.. punks :))

anyhoo, so this one girl asks if she can take a dump in SL.. then ammended that to ask if she could "dump" (she used a more explicit word, but you egt the idea) gold.

my response? yes! if you build/script it.. yes you could. then she asked if she could sell the gold and make real money.. i said, again, yes.. sort of. that if she created this gold dumping action (i also suggested a custom anim to go with it) and it was groovy enough she could sell it, then transfer her $L to $US.

so yeah.. there's my poopy story. :D

-

also, does anyone remember where the thread is that has all the tags (bombs) in it? i think these guys would really dig that stuff!!! there is some really cool art on their forum as well.

you 12ozers have some really creative and smart minds among you.. feel free to look me up someday and show me some stuff you've done. i wouldn't be surprised if your group ends up buying a private island someday! (a cool feature about that is that you can design the ladmass, shape/heights, to be whatever you want.. i'm working on that too..)

oh yeah.. you may have better luck finding me in-world (or on the forums) as Cybin Monde. i'm a bit more rowdy than he is and not allowed to come out and play on the forums much.. y'know.. Mr. Cybin is one of them there ResMods, so i'm a bit of a boon on that image at times.

jeepers.. that's too long of a post for me.. i guess i should stop for now.

No, YOU got banned for admitting you were under 18. Why the Lindens haven't removed you from the Adult Grid yet is --- well, typical Linden.

You're a good example of someone whose behavior wasn't at issue, it was your purposeful violation of the TOS.

This isn't hard to understand. He was not 18 at the time he was banned. The fact that LL did nothing about it in spite of the AR does nothing to improve my confidence in how they're policing their own TOS since the registration changes.

Maybe a big lawsuit one day from a litiginous parent will get their attention.

No thanks, Grits. I'm fine. I got lots of hugs before I left for work today. My 14 year old is STILL not going to join Second Life, though.

Cindy, I know you and other shop owners have had to deal with more than your share of griefing. However.....

Nowhere in this thread, until just now, did you mention them firebombing your store or insulting or annoying your customers. What I saw was a four-page attack on these folks based on things they *might* do because they hang out on a graffitti board. That's wrong. Its an icky way to to welcome people to SL. Furthermore it was based on comments in one thread. There's a whole board there that, had folks taken the time to research and read it, might have swayed thoughts differently.

I've been talking with Grits and encouraging him and his friends to become proficient in scripting and building to build something they know a lot about -- a skateboard arena with cool graffitti. I hope they do it. It could be a neat thing.

Yeah they sound like a bunch of kids. They *are* a bunch of kids. Probably age 25 or less. But that's not a crime. We need innovative young people in this world just as much as we need stable old farts such as myself. The way to make these people welcome is not to ridicule their board and compare them to SA (a terrible comparison btw and completely undeserved) but to welcome them and show them what they can accomplish with the tools SL has to offer. Yeah ok so they think of a poop script at first. But I'll betcha the possibility of making some cash by building something awesome that they love and have experience with will go a lot further once its pointed out that this is possible.

Furthermore, how can you blame them for getting excited about all the sexxors in this world? There are more than a few people posting on these boards and condemning these kids that are into it in a big way themselves. What, its ok for us but if a bunch of young boys get excited about it they are automatically more liable to grief?

Frankly I'm ashamed that we've welcomed them this way. This is the way you build a whole group of people who *want* to grief because they get condemned because of the way they talk, the way they post, or because they are graffitti artists and skaters. So we post four pages of crap about how rotten they are and they get pissed and guess what -- they go out and do rotten stuff because they hate you now because you dissed them before even giving them a chance.

And it wasn't just you. Everyone hopped on the frigging bandwagon, real eager to put these guys down. I think we owe them an apology and maybe even a little help getting started. Lets show them that SL is a place where they can realize the potential that the moderator of that board saw and posted about. Lets show them we are friendly people who want to get along with people from all walks of life. Maybe if we do this, instead of spending all that energy they have on hating us they'll spend it building something cool.

someone at Lindeb Labs wants to look at that thread, and take a list on names to ban from it.
I kinda feel sorry for the moderator... hes frustrated at the fact the others on his board just want to recreate GTA in second life..... and unlike most of the rest of them sees this places potential

The above statement is now retracted.

Looks like I misjudged you guys, cause i didn't look into the board further, and didn't get you guys.
Grits, youre one eloquent fucker, welcome to secondlife.

Cindy, I know you and other shop owners have had to deal with more than your share of griefing.

It's gotten a little better since the MAC address-hash thing, but only slightly. It's still beyond belief.

I said, very clearly, on page one that 2 of the 3 I banned were banned for griefing -- I include being an asshole in a broad category of "griefing", right along with firebombing and using push scripts.

I think you're overstating a little. People are free to express their opinions, which I did and which others did. But I refuse to agree that this is all somehow my fault. On the net, everyone is judged by the words they use. If you want to convey intelligence and maturity you try to express yourself appropriately. Otherwise, the opinions people form of you are your own fault for not presenting yourself differently. If it matters to you, then it's a decision you have to make (generic you, not "you" personally Viv).

From: someone
Its an icky way to to welcome people to SL.

I've met 4 of their members online. Three of those (75%) were either lying about their age or were rude, obnoxious idiots. That's an icky way to represent the rest of their group.

I've belonged to gamer guilds for years online going back to Ultima Online. And the one truism that always held in every one of those groups was that we were representing our guild just as much as we were representing ourselves. If we acted irresponsibly, griefed players or were rude pricks we should expect everyone to judge our entire guild based on our individual behavior. Maybe it's "icky", and maybe it's not fair, but that's how these things work.

I agree. Like I've said throughout, it was never Grits I've had a problem with. He's never been banned from our club and I've never had any complaints about him. If they can create something cool in SL, then more power to them. (FYI, over lunch I sent Mamski my folder of free script locations, I hope it helps him get up and running quicker).

From: someone
Frankly I'm ashamed that we've welcomed them this way.

I feel as though I've welcomed Grits just fine through our previous in-world interactions. We've had nice chats. I refuse to be shamed for banning the jerks and teenagers he hangs with, though. I have broader considerations to take into account than whether a couple of rude kids don't like me.

While they are here maybe we can get them to teach us what its like to be a gangsta

Maybe they can tell us about the hardships of growing up in the middle-class hood, with nothing but a 40 oz and Daddy's SUV to keep them going.
