From: Mocha Jackson If you're offended by the music that's playing on a PRIVATE and MATURE sim, you have the option of: 1. Turning your music off 2. Not entering a sim marked MATURE. 3. Leaving With all the griefing thats been going on lately, I'm sure the Lindens have more important things to deal with than what music is playing. Clearly this person isn't mature enough to deal with the situation and doesn't need to be there. Mocha, you don't get it. If something doesn't conform to their precious world view, then it absolutely must be abolished to protect their sensibilities (and their virgin ears, right, so are mine, you sick fucks). They don't beleive they should have to do something on their own to avoid hearing/seeing offensive things, they think the world has a responsibility to do it for them. Slackers.

Why not ban em from your sim, then they'll never know what music you're playing.

If so, it should be gone. If one race can say a word any other can; and if a word is racist from one race, it is from all.

Its true. 'cracker' is an insult to whites, no matter who says it. At least we don't support racism by saying only one race can say it.

understand what you're saying.... and technically, one race speaking about their own race using a derogitory word is not derogitory or racial in any way:
example: black person saying the 'n' word white person saying the 'cra.....' word gay person saying 'gay' jewish person saying 'jew'
I'm indifferent on this, have no real stance except that I believe in freedom of speach, and an intollerance to censorship. Rap music is an artform, and especially on a private sim, we should be allowed to play what they want, unless the music is about one group being profoundly harsh to another group.

All kinds of people use the "N" word in Second Life. And I do not feel like the "N" word is a problem or issue in Los Altos.

I personally would never use it, and usually look at the person that said it as ignorant.... but using 'n___a' has an entirely different meaning than 'n____r'.... and I am not personally offended when the n___a word is used in SL. I am also not offended when rap artists uses that word either, because it's definition has nothing to do with racism. It's a word relating to a common bond and brotherhood.

I feel it is a social ill that needs addressing. But I also don't interfere when two people insult one another. Want to call eachother ignorant, feel free!

Also when you enter Los Altos you need to understand it is basically an urban simulation. It is just a part of culture today. So if you went to an urban area irl you would hear similar things. If you do not want to see those words you can use the "mute" botton, if you do not want to hear the music you can hit the "stop" key.

What we need to do is put the faces of the innocent Native SLilians on the $10L bill... the ones that we stole all this land from!!! We just pushed aside the natives and started building our houses and shops!! We don't even hear about the helpless native SLilians anymore... do you know where they went?

Who said I was speaking of Los Altos? I may have passed through once or explored, but I am not a hypocrit and I refuse to use a word I consider racist.

I agree with Jonas that it would be helpful to know what particular piece of rap music the person was objecting to. There's been some speculation about why that might be but no hard facts.
I wonder as well if the attitude of 'you can play what you like on your own land' would also apply to the racist lyrics of songs by groups such as Skrewdriver or incitement to murder of gay men in music by 'artists' such as Buju Banton?
I take the point that one has several options in such circumstances (turn it off, ignore people, leave) but, since broadcasting such material is a clear breach of the ToS, shouldn't LL intervene to defend their standards?

Los Altos is made up of many different races, there's no racism going on in the music. Stuff you mentioned about Skrewdriver and Buju Banton that promote hate and discrimination are against the rules.

Ok, that is lame to the fullest! Well I am a DJ at an adult Club/Adult sim. So does that mean my music has to be PG? Fook that! Don't like it then don't visit the sim. Personally, I think underage accounts should not be allowed in mature sims or simply have there own world. Really, this is stupid and lame. Sounds like someone looking for attention or simply to stir things up. Get a life people X.X

As I said, any group or race speaking out against another group or race is not allowed IMO.... but a rapper calling another dude in his crew a 'n___a' because they're friends.... how is that a problem?
