Private Sim Owners Threatened For Playing Rap Music Possible TOS?

So today I get an IM that I am going to get reported for playing uncensored rap music in my private sim named Los Altos. I decided to contact Live help and they assured me that uncensored rap was permitted in my private sim. Then the griever that reported me told me that they had spoken to a Linden and that in fact it might be a TOS violation to play unsencored music in my private sim. So i contacted this Linden and indeed was told that i may be in violation. So what do I do. I have had the sim for about a year and always played the same uncensored rap music. Do I take out the rap? And let a free acount get me in trouble, though i paid 1,250 for my sim and continue to pay 200 a month for the teir and up keep??

I say keep the music, for real..are the lindens gonna destroy a something huge over a newb?

I love people who are so uptight that they would report rap music. what an Assclown huh. I play Music in my place too its my store, it says mature. obviously the ppl reporting arent mature so thier complaints shouldnt be considered anyways right? ill play what i want.

it's a mature, private sim - if you dont want to be subjected to mature material, don't enter the areas. Simple as that. If the music was bothering you, respect you're in an area that allows it and hit the stop button. Simple yet again.

If you're offended by the music that's playing on a PRIVATE and MATURE sim, you have the option of:

1. Turning your music off
2. Not entering a sim marked MATURE.
3. Leaving

With all the griefing thats been going on lately, I'm sure the Lindens have more important things to deal with than what music is playing.

Clearly this person isn't mature enough to deal with the situation and doesn't need to be there.

What is the difference between uncensored rap music and ppl that have porn movies on their sim? It is a mature sim and everyone has the option to either leave or just hit the stop button. This does not make any sense to me.

Your sim is rated Mature - that has to be the end of the story. You can do what you want.

As a fellow sim owner, I will say that if someone tells me I can't do something on my own sim that I pay good money for?

now why would they say something to the owner of a sim who pays $10 a month for their account and who pays $200 in tier fees about the music they want to play uncensored or not. So what someone came their and didnt like the music, no one said he had to stay there and i dont think theres some kind of glitch in game where you cant push stop to turn off the music. I got ya back bro, my sim been playing uncensored rap too, and no i know theres people out there that like to report over it, its there to stay, and I;m sure I'm not the only one who already has it playing or will have it playing now. As far as I remember, this is an 18 and older game, which means, everyone is adults, which mean everyone has the right to do whatever they want on their land right?

Although we are in a virtual world the First Amendment still reigns supreme. ANY music uncensored should be banned if this is the case.. not just RAP music. I'm sure SL would rather receive the monthly fees of these mature sims more than violating our right to play the music that we want to hear on a private mature sim.

My suggestion would be for these so called DO-GOODERS to rid SL of the pedophilia that is running rampant on the game... I mean, surely that's more disgusting than uncensored music....Or will they blame that on rap too?

Hey, how come there are so many new Liaisons who know so little about SL? Shouldn't there be a training procedure?

This thread isn't the first time I've witnessed new Linden Liaison saying something that was totally off the established guidelines. Maybe Liaisons who do not know the topic, should instead refer the customer to a senior Liaisons instead of giving an answer off the top of her head.

As soon as I started reading this thread I thought about the same thing, "So you can graphically act out sex in any mature area, stream porn, put up pictures of graphic sex acts, but the words used to describe the graphic sex act cannot be broadcast, hell, not even hosted or broadcasted through LL's servers but basically "pointed at"??? I would keep playing any damned music you want, until a Linden tells you not to, which I think will never happen.

First I agree with the consensus here and I'm fairly certain it is policy that it is your sim to do with as you please. If people don't like it they shouldn't be there. I wouldn't sweat the issue too much where the Lindens are involved. Most likely this one Linden either stated his/her opinion rather than policy or hadn't clearly understood the issue.

A) The fact that the person who complained may have been new to SL is completely irrelevent. This is one of the attitudes that makes people feel very unwelcome. In fact any old resident who has been here forever and a day can be just as big a dipshit as any new person.

B) The term griefer is so often misused it starts to lose all meaning. Reporting someone for playing music you don't like on their own private sim does not make someone a griefer, it only makes them a poor unfortunate victim of stick up their ass disease and we should be sympathetic to their plight. It must be very difficult to go through life being that oversensitive. (This was sarcasm... for the sarcasm impared.)
