From: Aimee Weber The idea of a Union seems to be stable at near 50% but I do wonder if this is the result of poor communication on my part. Would there be more support if I better communicated what I was trying to accomplish? Or do people understand what I was saying but decided it was all BS anyways? I think people have a lot of negative thoughts about the word "union" as it pertains to organization. I bet this is a lot more popular if pitched with the same idea without calling it a "union", and without mentioning "strike" and instead calling it "organized action".

From: Hiro Pendragon Astute observation! Now, how is that relavent? Because Unions are generally contracted by companies in need of laborers.

I think maybe you guys got hung up on the word. It's been mentioned that there may be better ways to refer to this organization than "Union." If there is any future for this idea, I am sure it will be called something else.

I do undertstand that what your proposing is not a Union in the traditional sense, and I do think it's an interesting idea. Representation is always a good thing!

It's not the word Union that turns me off of it, just the red tape. I voted No Thanks for the same reason I always voted No to player run government. No one can represent my wants and needs better than I can, and I don't need to limbo under red tape and have it approved by commitees to do it. The idea of a group of likeminded individuals in SL having one solid voice is nice, but it's more of an Ideal than an Idea. (Yes, I am a cynic, why do you ask?) If, at some point in the future, something like this does come about, I hope it's a smashing success, but my cynicism and experience tell me it will go the same way all the groups before it have, and collapse under its own weight.

From: Aimee Weber Times are very much changing in Second Life and residents must learn to adapt to the new climate that is developing. Some individual users currently enjoy a level of clout and influence though considerable landholdings and personal wealth. This influence is largely unavailable to the individual content creator. I've owned large amounts of land. I received no special treatment. I didn't need to. I've been pleased with the support I've received. From: Aimee Weber - Organizing and combining our voices, in hopes of affecting policy change with equal clout as the landowners. Content creators already have this. The grass is not always greener. From: Aimee Weber I know this may not yet be the time for such an agressive move. I'm not expecting overwhelming support for this idea. But I think this thread will serve as a good first step and a foundation for future efforts of Content Creators to organize. There is no reason to organize an union. It will be powerless. Why? Among other reasons, it'll be impossible to get independent people like content creators to agree on anything.
