No they didn't. Where's the download? Such a fascinating spectacle. Beware, ladies and gentleman, of those who denounce a lack of encouragement while offering discouragement themselves. _____________________

Such a fascinating spectacle. Beware, ladies and gentleman, of those who denounce a lack of encouragement while offering discouragement themselves. I'm not discouraging them from producing it. It sounds like a good idea, and if they've really worked out a way of making IE transparent that would be excellent. All I'm saying is that your argument, that they've done it instead of just having the idea, isn't borne out in reality - all they've posted so far is an idea. |

I'm curious about the function of this browser.
What does this do that I couldn't do with my browser of choice and a few bookmarks? Maybe I'm missing some functionality or I don't understand something about it. The ghosting thing sounds pretty neat. I'd like to be able to read the forums and keep an eye on SL at the same time. |

Do you seriously believe that no-one has had this idea before? I don't mind not everyone sharing my limitations. I do mind being told I am being held back by my limitations, when the system that has caused that to happen depends on some people having those limitations in order for it to work. Ok that is your most convoluted statement so far. _____________________

All I'm saying is that your argument, that they've done it instead of just having the idea, isn't borne out in reality - all they've posted so far is an idea. A pretty scary idea! Hang on - LL are involved in this? This is going to be official? This is getting scary.. is this another handover of a semi-official channel to a private individual with no warning or election? The OP has said it's in progress and that Linden Lab has been told about it. That's a bit more than getting out of the bathtub and having an idea as you towel off. Do you express how threatened you feel by the progress, success and achievement you see in others in real life, also? I'm genuinely curious. _____________________

But don't worry, if you'd like a transparent IE, you can make one, too: Make Internet Explorer Transparent (from www.freevbcode.com) |

The OP has said it's in progress and that Linden Lab has been told about it. That's a bit more than getting out of the bathtub and having an idea as you towel off. "In progress" can mean anything, and LL having been told about it - well, that's just the same as "telling LL about every single random idea you have". Do you express how threatened you feel by the progress, success and achievement you see in others in real life, also? I'm genuinely curious. I don't feel threatened, personally, by this. I do feel worried in general, though. LL already quangoed an important in-game information channel with InfoNet; if this browser is going to be official (and I don't know that it is, just because they mentioned it to LL doesn't mean it is, but it's possible) then they could be intending to quango an out-of-game channel too, and we'll have the same problems about who gets a browser button, where the estimate values are taken from, how much MadamB can charge people to be listed in the browser, etc... |

She used the Microsoft HTML (ActiveX) component, and the program might be written in Visual Basic, though that can be only said for sure after we can download the program and see. |

I have no idea how you gathered that from what I wrote. Well, just wondered why it'd have been necessary to contact LL otherwise. Unless it's a trademark thing, of course. |

This has already been addressed as well. The purpose was not to make a NEW TECHNOLOGY or exceed any current browsers features but to do something nice for the SL Community...period. _____________________

Then I recommend people avoid this application like the plague. Even Microsoft seems to be unable to use that component securely, expecting a thin shell like this to be secure is like running around a "hot" ward snogging the Ebola patients. That is completely unnecessary, considering there are all kinds of popular third party applications that use IE internally, including AOL, Quicken, and several popular browsers (Maxthon, AvantBrowser, and Neowin) in the exact same way this program does. AOL also offers a standalone tabbed browser based on IE called AOL Explorer which is very nice - fast and nicely integrated with the new AIM client and email program. Interesting choice considering they own Netscape. I have been using Maxthon for several years, and after trying Firefox for awhile, I went back to using Maxthon again as I was sick of pages not rendering correctly and running into streaming video I couldn't see. I have never had a virus, spyware, etc. I keep my computer updated and have anti-spyware and anti-virus software. As an alternative however, there is a project that is working on a binary compatible version of the Gecko engine that could be put into a browser like this: http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/control.htm It would be interesting if this browser could offer a choice between the two rendering engines, based upon preference. I will suggest that as a feature to MadamG. _____________________

Which Troll region do you hail from? Just curious. You generally have no clue of how the application is put together and are all just "assuming". I have not given anyone any concrete details about my development environment. You are all poking and prodding and grasping at straws. I applaud your efforts, but give it a rest already. It's getting old. |
