Someone earlier in the thread mentioned having 200 prims on their face just for piercings. How much of that could be replaced by a single texture?

Yes, we used to wear them like that (textures) back in 1.0.....Now we use prims.. And lets set the record straight..how dare you say 200 prims.. Its 452 prims on my face, 588 from my neck up! And let me tell you what a chore it has been... Thanks to people like Mistress Midnight, Ready Jack, and Talila Liu, I was able to turn my face into the ultimate prim lagermeister.

Oh, and it looks good too ;)

I for one not only understand Hiro's post, but wish to think him for taking the time to post his opinion.

Avatars will not be seen by default as the creator intended. That is not ideal when it comes to how ppl percieve your work upon first glance. This 50% by "by default" will probably also impact sales based on first impressions of products.

That is my take on this.

Because we're out of things about which to be hysterical, Chip. The vacuum must be filled. Karen is very thoughtful to provide us this amazing opportunity,

Slow news day? Normally Hiro strikes me as pretty thoughtful and considered, but I'm left with the impression of a tempest in a teakettle on this one. Perhaps I'm missing the big legal concern that's so huge it mandates embolded text...? :(

I build a lot of 40' tall giant mecha avatars, so if anyone stands to 'lose' something with this feature addition, it might be me and my customers? I'm all in favor of it, though. My computer would LOVE to render in less detail the stuff 50m away. Srsly.

Am I the only one that finds it sad that the person who started this thread has dropped down to posting unrelated photos?

Not really.

LOL thats fucking creepy..

but I guess the big question is:

If I didn't load images on this page - which I certainly have the option to do, is my not viewing the creepy spider picture fucking with your freedom of expressing it?

Or can we say that you safely expressed yourself freely (via a creepy spider picture), only I chose not to view your post as you had intended?

Either way - I'm saving that pic for later - thats tooo creepy!

Again, I think there's a clear difference between blocking an entire picture, and blocking one attachment on an avatar.

I also think the whole identity factor is at state - an avatar isn't just an expression, it's an expression of your identity, which is a fairly high-priority expression, at least in my book.

Yes but no one cares about you or what you look like. People that do can keep the setting high, while the rest of us don't have to. And from what I understand this is not a new feature, but the changing of an existing setting to be lower strain on new users. Sheesh get over yourself and go do something.... else.

If an avatar's appearance isn't important to you, why don't you go play on There.com?

/chuckle

You understand wrong.

This wont end well... This will destroy a lot of good non human avatars. And im not just refering to the furries, im talking about mechs, androids, or anything that is prim based. You know what my avatar looks like without hte wolf head, tail and limbs? It looks like some small headed short, fat, purble, blob lady, with sucked in eyes, no hair, and big feet. Do you really want to see that? I know i dont wan't you to see me like that. I can imagine the newb questions then. What are you???

Whats next are we going to be able to turn off peoples clothes? no need for a nude patch in SL. I was ticked off when the tooltips got changed. Since they are no longer default turned on, newbies are asking me even more confused things like "is that house yours?" They would have allready known it was my house, and the houses name if they had tooltips turned on. But sadly they never found that feature to turn it on yet...

My guess the problem is that "you" can't force everyone else to look at you the way you want to any more.

Here's an idea.

Let's wait til this supposed travesty is unleashed upon our poor, unsuspecting grid.

Then we can wax poetic about the evils of prim culling.

I guess I see it differently - you still get to see you as you like.. And theres so much difference in the user to user picture as it is that the chances are they're not seeing you as you do anyways.

How does my CHOOSING not see every winkly prim on your katana infinge on your freedom of expression? I don't see it - you've expressed yourself.. for your part you're done with it..

To me this argument is like complaining to a dog that he only sees you in black and white.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I'll wait and see - but I don't see it as marginalizing your rights - I think thats just amateur dramatics.

How is "let's wait til it's implement it and change it retroactively" better than "let's implement it right the first time", LF?

I have to say that of all the freak out threads I have ever seen about any topic in SL, this one has to be the most patently absurd.

I have to say, if you don't like it, there's no need to continue to insult me half a dozen times saying the same thing with no new points. How about: Walk away from the thread, breathe deeply. :)

I am attacking you because you continue to attack others in this thread saying that they don't know what they are talking about, they are uninformed, etc. If anyone needs to walk away and take a big deep breath, it would be you. BTW, half a dozen is 6 times.
