NOT GOOD you will not be successful until you charge based on bandwidth usage like all other server farms yes a base fee... and then some tier fees based on USE of assets not a SCHEME to rip us off Fix the mainland Jack and we can talk This is the same thing AOL did in 1995 AOL needed X amount of dollars $$$ to upgrade the infrastructure. But AOL only had Y amount of dollars $$$ which was about 1/8 of the money $$$$ required to meet the needs of the planned and badly needed upgrades for the existing AOL customers So AOL decided to spend X on a major nation wide television advertising campaign saying "AOL now 19.95 a month!!!!" Well every one and their grandma signed up, and guess what the loyal and "connected" AOL users could not log in for weeks!!! nor could the new people that had just signed up. Now AOL had the money for the equipment upgrade and they profusely apologized to customers for "underestimating" the response to the special (sound familliar?) AOL frantically spent loads of the new found cash on the infrastructure and in 3 months AOL was back to its same level of performance only with many more customers and a lot more hardware and bandwidth AOL even placed some ads on TV again saying "Sorry we fixed it now" OK I am not biting this sour bait at appealing the masses you guys are lame as AOL with this move..

From: someone "You see, I can. Why? Well, LL clarified what OS are and that four OS runs on one core. So everyone should know that this will also effect the performance." Should? lmao. Come on. Shall we apply that to the avatar rendering cost? How about next week they put a toll on sim handoffs based upon how much ARC you create? I mean, you SHOULD know that the more crap you cause people to download to their machines the more stress it creates on the grid. Please. We should do anything we CAN do so long as it doesn't violate the terms. LL in turn has the ability to limit use technically. They opted not to, and instead opted to DOUBLE the prims, cut the price by HALF, and then say openly we CAN use openspaces in those ways. They could have left people with what they bought and redefined a new service that would stop the expansion of the problem, but redefining what they already sold after collecting the setup fees is heinous abuse of their power and unethical in terms of business.

From: Mephistopheles McMinnar I would never live on a OS, in fact i try to avoid OS, because all of them are too laggy, except the few with a forrest or water for sailing. Ehm... you did live on my OS, and after that on my SIM, both were laggy according to you... but don't say never, I know you didn't know it was an OS, but you did live there, full prims of your rental used

From: Jessie Zaks I don't get it. Keeping the open water for, well just open water...okay - I totally get that. Will the open water have less prims again? Makes sense to me.
But the new Homestead - will it be 2 homesteads to one simulator? Or will they just pay more for the same laggy service? Yep water etc as a void less prims even that makes sense but at the same price of 75 USD well thats extortion and i imagine that people will just pay for the same laggy service with the homesteads and with again more restrictions and a 125 USD price tag, Hmmmm Extortion anyone?

Open space
11-06-2008 08:04
Well it still seems as a force leave from the openspaces. So it will be area's like in the movie I am a legend. Lot's of sims are already for sale. Many people will leave SL. It's already started. If this is the policy of the lindens, to help SL life to a SD (second death) than the started to walk the right way.
There are four questions:
1st: they should make the policy for use in the beginning and not after many months.
2nd: I have asked technical people to look at the open code and how heavy used are open spaces really. And they are not agreed with the reasons that the Lindens said. Could there be another reason to raise the tier?
3th: Who pays 29.000 L$ tier for just a park or ocean world?
4th: And the most important: what is happening with our purchase money as openspace owner. I payed a lot of money for my open space. Now I cant keep it bcs of the higher tier, are the Lindens 'man' enough to pay me back....? Or is my money starting to dissapear? It's is not right that there will be suddely in januari a new policy for existing openspace owners because we bought it including the policy from this moment. So we paid for these rights.
So what will it be suggestions?
1) The Lindens contnuing there new policy starting from 4 januari and pay the sims owners there purchase money back.
2) Or the 'old' policy will be kept like it is now for this moments openspace owners, and the new policy will only counts for new openspace buyers and owners.
One of these two options is reasonable I guess.....it's up to you
Kind Regards, and hoping on a better solution,

The idea that "homesteads" become available standalone seems likely. Then it can be marketed as "We listened we cared" and quite possibly Qie gave them the idea in HIS post.
Meh.

I've been fighting for 'low use sims' to be available without having to own a full sim first for absolutely ages, tbh. It's up to them really, do they want some more income from people who want an opensim but don't have the money for a full one as well... or no income at all?

I think the current plan is fine so long as they continue to uphold the previous sales as they were made. I am not even saying they couldn't raise prices over time in keeping with inflation and cost of operation. That's reasonable.
That isn't what is happening here. They sold a lot of openspaces, and then either decided that they couldn't do what they claimed they could, or that it wasn't profitable enough for them.
My suggestion is this, do exactly what you are doing now with new purchases of openspaces and homesteads, and LEAVE WHAT YOU ALREADY SOLD ALONE. Reassess costs as needed in a fashion that is reasonable in terms of inflation, etc., but teir in general for mainland, etc., isn't going up, so that isn't an excuse for this.
The ONLY ethical outcome of this situation is LL keeping to the definition of the sims they wooed a LOT of people into buying between March-October. They were the ones that sweetened the deal to bait people in, they should not be allowed to switch their service once people are locked in.

From: Lord Sullivan LL has stung the general population yet again and as u have been around since 2004 I am surprised you are siding with LL [...] But I still want to know do you own land in SL? PS: Your English is far better than my German [/QUOTE] Hehe, I'm not siding to LL, i only have a different sight. Each coin have two sides and many ppl want see only the side with numbers. And "no" i don't own land, i've rented some spots for my business but this isn't the same. Thanks for the compliment

From: Ladyartista Labrada Here's another world to have a look around in... and yes, it is a NEW world, so it's not as slick yet as SL, but given time, it will be.. a plus, they have a currency called Lunas: 3rdrockgrid.com

WaterRegion - Water Only - 1000 Prim Region - 65536sq.m. $10.00 initial purchase Plus 1st month tier of $9.00 Then each following month just $9.00 per month.
These Prices effective: 8/22/2008 All Charges will appear from Y-City Web Hosting Don't forget also http://www.openlifegrid.com 45,000 prims a sim and a growing user base 35,249 users atm. In fact now is a good time in my opinion to be looking around at these other grids and get one running alongside SL as you never know whats gonna happen here next lol

I just don't wish to waste any more money with this company any more. After the who the hell knows how much money over the years (which I enjoyed back then at least) I am going to be a freeloader for a while. I don't want to make my home here (aka pay £100 a month to stand around somewhere). I can do that for nowt

Ownership vs Payor Information
11-06-2008 08:18
Out of curiousity, when the new policy goes into effect and the current OS sims transfer into the Homestead class - will the ownership of the sim automatically be transferred from existing owners to the payor??
For those of us who purchased these properties through an estate owner or third party, that question is of some importance...Anyone happen to know the answer??

They are raising prices, 20 dollars in january, 20 dollars isn't alot of cash. You have 3 or 4 less lattes a month. You dont eat out one night instead you eat at home. Ask yourself how much is your personal enjoyment worth. That is the question.

I read about open spaces from their knowledgebase BEFORE I decided to invest in one. Everyone likes to keep quoting their intended use from here as it stands now. This knowledgebase was also change in the beginning of October BEFORE Lindens made the initial announcement of the pricing changes. When I originally read it back in August it indicated additional and creative uses for open spaces too. THis text was mysteriously removed prior to the first pricing change announcement.

From: Cherry Czervik Until recently I'd have agreed in full. I just don't wish to waste any more money with this company any more. Same position here; a reasonably priced product, together with a justifiable idea from me for the expenditure, and I'd be there like a rat up a drainpipe. However, given the way we've been messed about, with a mis-sold product from someone who didn't do their homework (or understand the popularity of such a product, and how most people think land is overpriced), I'm reluctant to entertain the thought even if they were now to become available. I've never understood why there's such a high setup fee anyway, surely if we don't want them any more LL just blank them and give it to the next person who places an order? No to any setup fees, and 50% reduction in all current prices, and I bet we'll see SL grow instead of disappearing up its own <0,0,0>. There's so much untapped potential in SL, beyond the myriad of boxy clubs, malls and 'home rentals'. Caledon, the sailing sims etc, are examples of what CAN be done - yet LL seem to be working hard to get rid of them and turn SL into "Commercial Life" instead.

From: bo Heartsdale Ehm... you did live on my OS, and after that on my SIM, both were laggy according to you... but don't say never, I know you didn't know it was an OS, but you did live there, full prims of your rental used Hey bo! I've figured out after some days that I was on a OS, that and the fact that i need more prims was the reason why i moved to a different spot. You know my first home and I'm sure you know that i haven't heavy scripted things at my home. But when a TV needs 10 or more seconds to change the stream or a sit pose on my couch needs 5 seconds to load, this isn't really fun, is it? But i agree, you have well designed OS and your customers are happy to live there, i won't blame you! I also understand you and other OS owners, but i also understand LL. Both ways to communicate with each other isn't the best at the moment. LL posts on the blog like "eat or die" and then they row back and say "we listen to the community". Ok, they don't really listen, because LL goes ahead with the price plans, but i don't think that the last word is spoken. We should wait till Jack, M and others from LL have read over 1000 posts in this thread.

Business Opportunities
11-06-2008 08:24
For those business owners looking for opportunities to expand their markets....There is definitely something worth considering in the growth of SL alternative worlds....I can see that the OpenLife world is ripe for development and the marketing of quality goods and services will be a big business as soon as their $$ system goes up...
Let's face it...business owners that are not looking at ways to grow represent the ones that will soon by dying...

Linden Labs Protected Us

THE way I see it is mostly the land barrons are affected by this, not the regular people trying to have a home, 1st because the only the rich were the ones able to buy them...due to fact you had to own a full sim to start with...Then they read the fine print, rules and reg--and still sold to others under false pretense, trying to make a fast linden buck..still placed heavy traffic businesses on them.........when knowing better---and linden labs should be thanked for saving us.... from these vultures! trying to get rich off us poor people.. Lets face it if you can afford 1-36 of them.. what is a few more lindens per month anyways!
so Thank You linden labs! you did what you should have!
