and in the meantime, new facilities are being announced in a video voice-overed by someone who sounds like dear old Torley, offering ever more super services to business and education (at the same time as they increase the tier to be charged). Goodbye to the SL we all know and love. Factcats, Land Barons, and Suits is what the future holds.

Looks like the decline is slowing down a bit. I think someone, somewhere, calculated the break-even point for LL at around a loss of 5000 islands. That figure will probably be exceeded if trends continue.
I got rid of five openspaces and moved my people around to better fit what we have left, and now I'm noticing an increase in traffic from prospective buyers. I think estates that can survive this will pick up a few new customers from all the estates that have gone. One thing I don't understand is that the grid seems so *empty* lately, yet the figure for number online seems as good as it ever did. |

Looks like the decline is slowing down a bit. Wait a couple more months. When the next price jacking (like car jacking, except you have insurance on the car) takes place, more and more Homesteads are gonna be tossed. Already some of my group still holding onto their homesteads are asking if they get 1200$ worth of entertainment a year from the voids. The answers thus far are a muted 'yeah, kinda'. But as soon as it is 1500$ a year, the answer will be 'heck no' and the last of our voids will be gone. |

Looks like the decline is slowing down a bit. I think someone, somewhere, calculated the break-even point for LL at around a loss of 5000 islands. That figure will probably be exceeded if trends continue. Taking the slow-down in abandonments and closures into account, we'll hit that loss of 5,000 islands somewhere around the end of the month, or about two weeks from now. Then it's March through July to suffer more losses, when the next wave of closures begins. Projecting the slowdown in losses across those months, by July we should have lost about 30% of the land mass in SL due to this one stupid, bone-headed mistake. We've already lost over 17% of our land mass so far. I have a really hard time believing this dovetails nicely into Linden Lab's business model. |

According the Linden Lab's 4th quarter report, everything comes up smelling like roses, and as for any land mass loss, its estimations were right on. So there you go.

I am still hanging on to my Homestead Sim for now but as the above poster stated, if there is another price increase we will give it up. Paying the price of a 1/2 Full Sim and getting 1/4 sim prim counts and dubious performance makes no sense. I'd be better off renting a 1/4 or 1/2 sim and taking the hit on privacy and Estate rights/creativity. If I am forced to drop down then I am going to so it a big way. Might was well save some money.

...One thing I don't understand is that the grid seems so *empty* lately, yet the figure for number online seems as good as it ever did. Newbies ask me that all the time: "Where is everybody?" The shrinking of the land mass will help that problem a little. Fewer places to park avatars mean that the remaining places will have more avs. The other thing that contributes to the emptiness is that a lot of the avatars in that concurrency figure are bots. Although LL claims that the bot percentage is holding contstant, I think that the percentage of bots in SL is increasing, based on resident surveys. It's getting to the point that maybe 20 to 50% of the concurrency number is the bots (the number has a large uncertainty because of widely differing survey techniques and assumptions). _____________________

Today i've checked again the script performances into homestead, i've did the test in 3 different SIM's obtaining the same result, and i was shocked about it (i did the same test some months ago, noticing a difference between regular sims and ex-os'es... but not that difference!). The scripts actually are running from 50% to 75% slower than a regular simulator *ALREADY*. I've use a tool (intensive resources usage...) that floats around 0.08ms (in "sleeping"

Mmmmm $114 not bad,i pay over $125 and of course 20% exchange, sooooo that's about $145 tier now. And i will add here that since the change to homesteads, performance on my homestead is reduced, before the conversions i has absolutely no lag,now i do,it's not bad but compared to before i do notice it from time to time. |

Island growth so far in January, as of January 16th: -532. !!! It looks like the worst of the OS fiasko landslide is over (for now). Please keep in mind, that the numbers are the net growth of islands (net growth = + added - removed). Considering the fact that even during the steep decline in the last two and a half months (with an average net growth of -60 sims per day), LL was adding new sims on the average rate of 20 sims per day (see Tyche's awesome blog for details: http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/business-land-economy/8523-new-second-life-sims-past-12.html ), the added and removed numbers are beginning to even out, and it looks like SL is entering a plateau. It's likely that the numbers will oscilate now for a while, with a few hickups, due to outstanding issues (like the 'Zweite Welt' estate) where owners seem to have abandoned their sims, but LL has not removed them yet. |

Now, it seems quite feasible to me that Linden Lab would actually do this. However, the only thing I can't figure out would be its excuse this time. The truth, of course, would be it just wants to get rid of most estate sims and bolster up the ugly Mainland. Maybe some people here can come up with some of the more creative excuses LL could use. It might be a fun exercise. |
