Working pretty well so far for me (Mac version), except (and here's the deal breaker for any builder)... selecting multiple items/prims doesn't show the position in the edit window!
Edited to add... Well, it was working pretty well. Was hoping that the freeze and crash issue that affects so many of us Mac users was fixed. Silly me. Ah well, back to the Cool Viewer again.

1.22 RC0 still freezes on the macbook pro
11-23-2008 10:31
Well, the 1.22 RC0 still freezes on the macbook pro with nvidia video (512MB in my case) ... so http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7779still applies, rendering it virtually unusable. Unfortunately, the freezes appear to be just under the 20 second threshold for "WatchdogEnabled" to crash it and report, because it didn't (even though I'd turned it on). BTW, on my mac installations "WatchdogEnabled" is defaulting to "false" (at least as reported in Debug Settings under the Advanced menu), not to "true" (1?) as it seems to suggest elsewhere here.

Crashes in less than 10 min inworld
11-23-2008 13:00
From: Belle Loll I could not stay in longer than 10 minutes at a time..then when I would relog it would keep crashing before I could get in. I just had to reinstall the 1.21 again in order to play. Downloaded and installed the 1.22 RC0 and logged in. First thing I noticed is that everything is black until it's loaded. Then my next issue appeared. Had 3 crashes within less than 20 minutes. I wasn't doing anything else but standing still and talking in IM. It has solved my problem with turning my legs black when changing clothe, but dont have much fun of it if I keep crashing. CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (2127 MHz) Memory: 2046 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista (Build 6000) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce 7650 GS/PCI/SSE2 OpenGL Version: 2.1.2

Clearly some things have no priority...
11-23-2008 14:37
While it only affects anyone who uses second inventory windows, or opens the texture or color panel from edit, it sure would be nice if whatever is causing the horrible lag in those windows opening would get fixed. Working on inventory or building is pretty much hosed if you have to wait up to a minute for a texture window to open, and be frozen in place while you wait. It has been in the JIRA multiple times and been present since 1.21 was an RC, I guess some things just don't get much priority. DRD

Hey... have you forgotten?
11-23-2008 19:34
Hi It's been quite a wait now and it seems one issue that has a fix ready and waiting to use, is not being implemented into a new release viewer. Have you forgotten about VWR-8341 ? https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8341It's a much needed feature for users of the Spacenavigator 3D mouse. A little indicator would make life so much easier switching between 'Avatar' and 'Flycam' modes, without stumbling and falling off my building platform, because I thought I was actually in 'flycam' mode. It can be very annoying and the solution is there ready to be put in place. Thanks

Thanks Its done very nicely on the Open Life Viewer V15, this version can also run SL, why Linden can't do same or similat is beyond me. Torley Linden did a good job of promoting the Space Navigator I bought one and they do not come cheap in the UK and I feel a little cheated it not fully correct now.

RC1 out now
11-24-2008 19:23
1.22 RC0 must have been one of the shortest lived releases of Second Life ever. I downloaded it this afternoon, and this evening I was told I had to update to RC1!

RC 1.22.1...this comes with some pretty wierd effects. Rezz a prim and click on it to edit...holy cow the prim's moving..seems to be rotating slowly. If you're a builder I wouldn't advise doing any work on your latest creation with this client. Unrezzed textures still appear as black. Perre..

I installed 1.22.1 RC and I am very impressed with the overall improvement of texture management.
After clearing my cache and relogging, textures load a lot quicker. I don't get the "gray" while waiting for the higher rez textures to load anymore. I don't get "black" either. I seem to log in to an "empty" space until the textures load. I don't get an idea of what is around me until all the textures are loaded. I did rather prefer seeing some kind of shapes as the textures loaded. This allowed me to guide my movements without bumping into objects until the textures were loaded. Maybe in the future the speed at which textures rez will offset this.
When performing a search in any of the tabs, pics do take a lot longer to load. I placed a 64 x 64 pic in my classified ad and in my region, cleared my cache and it still took forever to load those pics under search. That "Loading..." message indicator is really annoying. Is that really necessary? I do know that I am waiting for something to load... lol

I tried clearing my cache last night before logging out however this morning when I use the 1.22.1 RC I still find unrezzed textures appearing black (to me this is not a major problem) and the rotating prims remain (this is a major problem). Even prims which are part of a build rotate/pivot within the build. Click on an entire link build and the entire structure begins to move. I clicked on a neighbours house in Nautilus and got a message saying I was unable to rotate the structure. On a positive note, when using 1.22.1 the texture control panel does appear a lot quicker than in the past few weeks when it was taking crazy times to appear. Perre..

RC logs me on to Beta grid???
11-25-2008 08:35
I cannot even use this RC because for some reason it logs me on to the Beta Grid, not the main grid. Any idea WHY this is happening? TY.

However, try this to get on to the Live grid: At the login in screen, press CTRL-SHIFT-G A drop down menu will appear along side the [Log In] button Select "Agni" (the Live grid, "Aditi" is the Beta grid) See if you can then log into the Live grid that way. 1.22.0 and 1.22.1 both seem to work pretty well for me.
On 1.22.0, I experienced three instances of the "lockup on all-white screen at startup" error. This happened with 1.21 ONLY on the very first attempt to run SL after installing.
I haven't seen the rotating prim issue.
I do agree that unrezzed textures ought to show as gray or black or *something*. All this completely invisible stuff makes it hard to even move away from a tp point to make room for a new arrival.
1.22.0 is crashier for me than the standard 1.21 viewer...just a sudden exit from SL with no warning...it doesn't seem to be tied to a specific action, such as too much camming. I don't know yet if 1.22.1 is improved in this regard.

Okay so far...
11-25-2008 14:12
Good stuff -
I've been in the 1.22 RC for over 1 hour moving around and teleporting and building a little, and no crashes!
Overall, textures seem to be loading faster (not fast, but better than 1.21, which has never worked very well in that regard for me.)
Maybe this is just me, but my avie almost looks like there's a face light on (but there isn't.) Looks decent in some environmental settings, tho...
Not so great -
Sometimes I see black and sometimes bright white while stuff loads. Much more often is the disappearing effect as textures load. Very annoying when you know a build is there and it's just invisible until the textures load (if you right click then you can see the build in outline and this seems to speed up the texture load...)
Also, I see a strange effect when taking snapshots to disk - a kind of prismatic burst of black & white textures appears and lingers for awhile, then seems to clear itself up.
--Seems like a good start for this release - always nice not to crash with a new RC.

The "clear" textures (until they finally rez) does not work for me. I have llRezObject vendors that use textured prims as a background/backdrop. As products are scrolled thru, the background texture changes. These textures are going "alpha" during the scrolling... not a good thing! Also, I just TP'd into a place and my skin rezzed before my clothes did... I was naked! Doesn't bother me too much but others might be offended... lol

Interesting... I've been having some problems with Space Navigator recently, so this morning I removed the SN software completely. I tried RC 1.22.1 again and the 'revolving/pivoting prim' prim problem has now gone. I'll try it for a day or so then try re-installing Space Navigator and see what happens. When I noted the rotating prim problem SN was not actually on however I had recently downloaded the most up to date updates from 3D's site. Conflict of software/programmes on the computer possible. Perre..
