? problem loading world
11-21-2008 15:18
From: Bella Penucca
Downloaded the new viewer first thing this am - upon first start.....loading world..program closes instantly, no warnings or errors given. Ok, I think...just some connection fluke. Successfully logged in for over an hour with no problems inworld that I have seen noted here. Logged out for a few minutes, now after almost 10 tries, I can't get past Loading World again..program instantly closes! :(

Still having the same issue as posted above, so Im running on the previous client now. The few scattered attempts Ive made throughout the day, I notice the loading bar will hang with about 1/8 left to go - always upon loading world. :/

glowing skins
11-21-2008 19:23
Skins on all avatars glow bright yellow/white including your own

Zooming camera up close fixes it till you zoom out again

turning off foot shading fixes your avatar but not those around you

this is for vista 4gb ram 512mb ATI Radeon HD

however the RC0 works fine on same specs bar using Nvidia GeForce® 9500 GT GPU

Mac PPC G5 dual 1.8GHz.... 1.22 resets my graphics setting upon launching. ARRGH, I have certain settings for sailing pirate ships and riding motorcycles so I can see the landscape before I get there.

I build a lot, too, and now I can't edit anything that contains anything, such as a prim with a script. How dull is that gonna be? Yeah, I filed a JIRA on that, but I haven't on the graphics re-setting. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10605

If I have a script error, clicking on the icon near the prim does not open the Script Warning/Error window. JIRA filed. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-10606

Looks good so far. An immediate jump in the frame rate in my home location (still short of where it used to be, but an improvement nonetheless), and no crashing (plenty of editing, appearance change, teleporting and high res snapshotting to put it through its paces).

1.22 much bbuggier than the buggy 1.21
11-22-2008 02:20
For me this RC crashes even more than the 1.21.6 release which crashed much more than the latter 1.20 releases. You have scores of 1.22 dumps from me. Texture loading times did not improve in typical texture rich areas, and the ordering of the loads seems totally random now. I do not like how initial texture loads start off as invisible. Not only is that jarring and destroys the verisimilitude of a 3D world, it is rendering people naked for scores of seconds, not outlines but pretty naked breasts and pubes. Expect an outcry from people in PG regions.

Bugs filed, but my general comment is this is another pile of random bits release. I ask again, as I have for so many releases, if you folks would PLEASE stop adding eyecandy and stick to fixing the most egregious bugs first. It sure would be nice to reach some closure with the pending bug set.

What eye candy was added in 1.22 RC0 ?

This release was one of mostly bug fixes and if you call returning whisper/shout to fly menu eye candy..

If you are sick of crashes you shouldn't be using a test release candidate

If you are determined to label crash issues and help get rid of them then using the RC0 and reporting such causes helps get rid of these crashes.

Since this is a very early RC then you can expect errors/bugs as was stated in initial post.

With so many different PC's and manufacturers and Settings out there, it's hard to make a application that will rest peacefully in all of them.

Yes DigitaL Scribe I can't understand all the moaning I thought idea of RC versions was for us to help Linden. If they do not want to help use the standard viewer.
Apart from what I mentioned before its running well for me an ordinary SL user.

I was finally able to get it to run without crashing by disabling the watchdog. I thought I had done that earlier, but guess not...

Can anyone explain to me how I would do this?

Look here and scroll down to the "Temporary Changes"

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.22

If you're using Windows:

Right click on the Icon and select "Properties"

On the Target line, scroll to the end and add (without the quotes):
" --set WatchdogEnabled 0"

Hit [Apply] and [OK]

That should do it.

Yeaaaah, I can change my cloth now...
11-22-2008 09:50
I like this viewer. Havent been able to change cloth without have to bake or rebake or whatever it is, several times for each cloth-piece. But now i can change my cloth like i used to. That is great.

It seems that performance is a bit better too.

The only thing that can be a bit confusing at first is that the textures is transparent when not rezzed. It looks like everything is all empty or missing...lol

So far so good. :)

Every time I run it, I have to have to press Alt_Enter. When I uncheck "View in Window" under preferences, this change does not stick. It always comes up as checkmarked. I never saw this bug in any previous version.

I thought that was correct setting to use.
If you unchecking it it is obviously wrong for you to use, what you changing it to and why?
I'm asking as maybe I should too.

Worst RC ever for me
11-22-2008 20:22
I have crashed six times in the last day. That would be more than I crashed in the last two months combined. I am using the regular viewer for the first time in over a year. Horrible version. I'm running on Vista with dual core 3.00 GHz and 4gb ram and dual GeForce 8800. I might crash once every two weeks....until this one.

Running pretty smooth for me so far. Performance seems as good or slightly smoother then recent releases.

Textures load much faster than with the 1.21 Final release. For some reason that particular version just took forever to load textures for me, even though the RC with the same version number loaded textures as expected.

The clothing glitch I was experiencing in 1.21 seems to be gone as well, the one that was worked around by turning off Palettized Textures and ReBaking.

I am crashing quite often when right clicking on an object during editing. Can't reproduce a case where it'll crash me every time but I am keeping my eyes open.

Chatlogs all missing!
11-22-2008 21:35
I installed the RC listed in this thread. I used it for a bit and then I checked my chatlog folder -- everything has been wiped out. The only chatlogs I have now are conversations since I installled the RC. Could the RC really be responsible for this? The timing is unmistakable. I havent installed anything else in weeks.

Please tell me my old chatlogs just got moved somewhere...
or please can someone advise on good free recovery software? :(

PS : BACKUP YOUR CHATLOGS

The RC seems to be working fine but...

Unrezzed textures are appearing as black,
I'm experiencing a LOT of crashes while working with the texture tab within the build programme. Problem does seem to be texture related.

While using the previous RC I didn't experience any crashes at all.

Hope this helps..Perre..:)

Everytime I set SL to run in fullscreen with this viewer on 1440x900, it crashes.

Everytime I relog, I start back in Windowed Mode.

Even with another resolution I don't crash with, I start back in windowed mode.

Now I can't even go into fullscreen anymore because the world doesn't show for any resolution. The UI Does, but the world doesn't.

I have the latest Nvidia Drivers for the 200 Series.

Windows Vista Home Premium 32

Nvidia GTX 260

3 Gigs RAM

Intel Q6600

.....I start back in Windowed Mode.....

I asked about this 24 hours ago, as I did not understand why I'm wrong, maybe, to have allways run with it ticked.
It quite clear you experts getting something better than me picture wise, but of course I'm not crashing.
If I'm wrong to ask please tell me, and where I should.

I have to say, this RC isn't really doing it for me. When I first log on, everything loads really, really slow. That is to say, if it loads at all before crashing. When everything loads just fine, and I go about my business, I am good for a couple of hours, but sometimes, opening a profile causes a crash. Editing an object causes a crash. Sim Crossings cause a crash... Need I go on? Try to edit small (tiny) prims attached to your avatar and that fails, too. Instead of the pie wheel saying "Edit, Detach, or Drop" I get the regular one, like when you want to go into edit appearance. When textures are loading, instead of the old gray, it's all white, and I dunno if that's a bug or something new, but I hate it, too. Hope this helps, and these problems go away. :-)

Nothing wrong in running in window, I always run that way, because it's easier to use other programs at the same time as SL.

I also prefer the look of SL in a maximised window to having it fullscreen, it's a subtle difference, but the proportions are slightly different and I prefer them.

However, performance is slightly better in fullscreen mode, not enough to make a difference for me, but it might do on some machines.

I tried reproducing your problem on my system with both 1.21 and 1.22 RC0 and couldn't. In both cases, the box remained unchecked. It sounds like something about your system. Maybe in RC1, it'll work again.
