UPDATE #6 @ 2009-07-30: Today's work is complete. 1.27.1 is on the whole grid.
UPDATE #5 @ 2009-07-30: Today's work is beginning. We'll be rolling the odd-numbered sims.
UPDATE #4 @ 2009-07-29: Today's work has been completed.
UPDATE #3 @ 2009-07-29: Today's work is beginning. We'll be rolling the even-numbered sims.
UPDATE #2 @ 2009-07-27: Due to some issues that came up today, we've decided to change the deployment plan. We will no longer be doing the pilot roll, but we will be proceeding with the full roll on Wednesday and Thursday. We made the decision to not delay the entire deployment because this is a point release, and there's less risk in deploying a point release without a pilot roll.
UPDATE: A couple of the times had AM instead of PM. Corrected below.
We will be deploying server version 1.27.1 to Second Life during the week of July 27th. The rolling restart is scheduled to look like the following:
* [updated to remove pilot roll] * Wed. 07/29, 7am-12pm : half of Second Life will be restarted * Thu. 07/30, 7am-12pm : the remainder of Second Life will be restarted
As with all of our server deploys, each region will be restarted once during one of the rolling restart periods. Most regions should be down no more than 5-10 minutes, although some fraction of the regions will take 20-30 minutes to upgrade. If your region stays down for more than 30 minutes, please contact support. Each region will receive warnings starting 5 minutes before that region is restarted.

I tought the .27 version was already deployed? Bugfix, prolly. Server version is 1.27.0.xxxxx. So they're putting it up to 1.27.1.xxxxxxx. Which means it's a minor update and not a big update.

Dante, does this have the teleport limit fixing code or is that still in the works?

From: Gordon Wendt Dante, does this have the teleport limit fixing code or is that still in the works? It will have a relaxed throttle threshold (10 per 15 seconds, as opposed to 3 per 15 seconds now). The code fix will come later, at which time we will re-visit the threshold.

checking the schedule:
* Tue. 07/28 7-11am : a pilot roll of ~500 simhosts * Wed. 07/29, 7-12AM : half of Second Life will be restarted * Thu. 07/30, 7-12AM : the remainder of Second Life will be restarted
That means: Tuesday: 07h AM to 11h AM SLT (ok) Wednesday: 07h PM to 12h AM SLT (?) Thursday: 07h PM to 12h AM SLT (?)
I undestand that after 11:59 AM, we have the mid day (12h PM). And after 11:59 PM, we have midnight (12h AM).

Anyway, I would interpret as: 0700 - 1100 (4 hours) 0700 - 1200 (5 hours) 0700 - 1200 (5 hours) Do keep in mind these times can and do get tweaked on the day depending on last second issues delaying, or a smooth rollout completing ahead of schedule.

Why only 500 pilot regions
07-23-2009 04:29
The pilot rolls "had" been increased to 3000 toward the end of Prospero's tenure at LL, and that seemed to work well. I think maybe 500 pilot regions doesn't give you a large enough population to test functionally for performance and bugs across the entire grid. Have you considered bumping the pilot region roll up a bit to try to avoid borking the grid like has happened recently?

500 sim hosts are 2000 sims, right?

From: Cerise Sorbet 500 sim hosts are 2000 sims, right? If they're doing full regions, it is. For hosts that have openspace and/or homestead regions on them, it's 16 regions per host.

Me again Xugu Madison, I was not refering about how long it will take. On the post it says that on the fist day it will end at 11h AM (Morning). That is ok for me. We have no event scheduled at this time. On the Second day it says that the rolling start will "probably" end at 12h AM, that means, Midnight SLT... that is also ok.. But if the information is wrong and they meant "12h PM (Mid day)", so that will affect me and I have to make changes on my events schedule. I hope the 2nd and 3rd days schedules are correct, just like posted there. That means to Start 07h PM (or 19:00) and end at Midnight SLT. Good Viber and have a nice day all. Thanks your reading.

Why oh why do you not include links to the release notes in the blog posts? This seems like something extremely basic.

From: Drew Dwi Why oh why do you not include links to the release notes in the blog posts? This seems like something extremely basic. The 1.27.1 release notes aren't finalized yet because we haven't finalized the code yet. The updates will go on the existing 1.27 release notes, though, which are located here: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/1.27As Darien mentioned, you can look at the beta release notes to get an idea of what you might see in the official 1.27.1 release.
