Maybe the map hasn't updated for me yet, but I don't see anything but a few oddly-shaped (but not TOO oddly-shaped) parcels.

You need to see it on the ground, Talarus. We need a new name. "Doughnut" is not enough. How about "Waffle plot"?

I find it necessary to keep up on the blog and status at least, particularly since LL has made it clear in the past that these are the ways they'll likely inform you of policy shifts.

This is just the sort of low life crap that needs to be stopped.

Microparcels must be forcibly reintegrated into any surrounding plots, if the mainland is ever to be healed.

Jack

To be so blatant with attempts at extortion in this manner proves how dire the situation is and how lax the expected reaction from Linden Labs is expected to be, only a fool could fail to see the malicious intent of the cutter in Olaf.

I have abuse reported this blatant extortion attempt and IMed the following to Jack Linden as I doubt he is checking here anymore.

Neptune Shelman: I have sent a new example showing how harassment continues to be carried out with microparcels.
Neptune Shelman: It is a shame you decided not to tackle adfarming as it was previously known, instead deciding to concentrate on the immediately obvious visual blight of advertising.
Neptune Shelman: To see the abuse within Olaf Sim you need to set your view to show property lines (CTRL + Alt + Shift + P )
Neptune Shelman: It then becomes obviously clear.

Here is a copy of the notecard.

Jack

Landmark to extortion plots

*Name removed for forum* a known cutter and extortion plot seller has in the Olaf Sim at the above location cut 10 16sqm plots out of a larger parcel just to make it unusable and force sale of 160sqm for 12345L.
This is blatant harassment and parcel abuse and also proves there never was a need for any adverts to force high prices for microparcels, please look at this area it is clear this behavior will do just as much if not more damage to the mainland than advertising ever did, if allowed to continue.

There are no adverts on this plot but if you visit it then the intent is clear.

I have filed an abuse report, including aerial photo of four of the 16's showing their spacing.

[rt.lindenlab.com #1316666] Abuse Report Received Abuse: E:1 P:1 |Olaf| (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Olaf/182/238/24) [Harassment] {*Name Removed for forum*} "Blatant extortion trap cutting ."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I doubt anything will happen over this as I have just had to sell and move from my own land, when it became clear extortion is not on LL's agenda.

Excellent sums it up well LMAO

But maybe this is just the sort of crap Jack needs to see if LL are ever going to take microparcel abuse seriously.

I hear ya. Every day now, I spend a little more time on the edge of just dumping the whole mess myself. It gets very difficult to justify paying tier for the privilege of enduring this level of frustration.

Something else to note about the Olaf scam: One of the waffle holes isn't yet for sale. So, even after some poor dumb bastard pays the ransom--Ha ha! Fooled ya! There's another one here that you can't have until the price is set. And you know it will be much more "valuable" than the others, because it's not surrounded by a bunch of extortion cuts as they were.

What corporate craziness compels LL to look the other way while its Mainland estate hosts a running game of microparcel three-card monte?

The person selling these nasty little plots belongs to a group whose rep parked a flamingo shaped tip jar in the middle of Jack's office hour last week.

Wasnt that group organized to collect and sell off microplots cheap in an effort to help rejoin and restore the Mainland?

A 3rd Flamingo?

I only saw the Flamingo Timo Rezzed and the one I copied from him and rezzed that had floating text that said something like "Donate your 16sqm to Arbor Project". Those flamingos had no tip jar scripts or anything, and because scripts are disabled on the Linden Estate Services Sim, when rezzed the scripts don't do anything. The only reason floating text shows is that it is persistent. I actually copied Timo's flamingo, sent a copy to my alt back home and she got the text going and sent it back to me. Anyway, I degress...

And neither one of us are selling extortion plots - we are against that! I just want to make it absolutely clear that some flamingo owners do not cut land nor extort the prices!

So who is this third flamingo? I didn't see that one!

Actually, the flamingo story goes back to another 'fake' Arbor Project group that sits out flamingos asking for money and they will send the money to a RL nature group, if you want to belive that from someone selling 16's for 5000$L.

The two Flamingos Timo and I rezzed relate to another story that goes further back that has to deal with Virtual Knitting and Knitting Stools on 16sqm parcels. Yay Maggie!

The Arbor Project has always been free and open to join, no one ever gets kicked (unless they break a group rule) and a lot of the land cutters joined it to "keep tabs" on what we were doing. There really was no way to mitigate it, because there is simply no way to know whose alt it is, until they reveal themselves.

As such, it is unfair to lump the truly beneficial efforts of the Arbor Project and its members in with a handful of miscreants who join for whatever reason. They don't contribute to the good work that the group does, and the rest of the group does NOT follow their practices in any way.

Advice

Would any of you anti small plot warriors tell me if I can AR a micro plot with ban lines that is NOT on my property? Theres one local to me in a parklike environment that the woener has spent time giving it a certain 'look', pathways and the like. I'm not sure what their final intention with the are is as I have not had a ny contact with them. However smack bang in the middle of one of the pathed sections is a 16 m2 microplot quite a lite higher than the surroundings and banlined. Its not for sale. I find it an eyesore, but dont' know what the protocol on reporting it is. Has anyone established what is and isn't reportable? There does seem to be some inconsistencies from what I have read here, although I'm still fairly new and finding my way round SL.

Go and stand next to it, then go to Help->Report Abuse...

1. Check "Include Screenshot"; make sure you have a good angle so you can see the banlines in the screenie.

2. Fill in the Type as "Parcel".

3. Click the "Choose Resident" button, type the name of the avatar (best to already have the owner's profile open, and copy/paste the name), then click Find. Select their name in the list that comes up, then click "Select"

4. Fill in the title "No access lines on microparcel"

5. Describe everything you find wrong with the parcel, including the terrain abuse.

6. Click the "Report Abuse" button.

At step 3, if the land is group-owned, open the group profile and look at the group's visible members. Any of the bold names is an owner of the group, and you can double-click one to bring up his/her profile to copy the name from.

That's it! Usually takes around a day or two for the Lindens to get around to it, and then the no access lines will be removed. If they return, just AR again. Eventually, the Lindens will suspend/ban the owner and the plot will revert to Governor Linden. The surrounding land owner will then be able to get the plot for L$1/sqm from LL.

Well it's also their way of discrediting your efforts.

The land has those flamingoes all over it.

Knitting stools on microplots? performance art? :)

Nicely explained gives a clear procedure to follow:-)

Do you use Parcel out of preference or was a procedure for micro parcel abuse set out by Jack?

I always use Harassment rather than Parcel as I think the response is quicker, also use the live chat if available to you after half an hour or so of posting the report.
Then whoever deals with Abuse Reports, gets a wake up call from the concierge people which makes them act quicker aswell.

Hmmm... that's a pretty good idea. I've always tried to limit my use of Concierge live chat to real emergencies but I'll have to think about trying this. (I know submitting tickets in parallel with ARs doesn't work... or at least didn't work for me.)

Just observing which ARs do and don't get handled, I'm seeing evidence that For Sale signs on 512s and above are not being treated as part of the problem, or at least not being handled the same way. (For example, I've AR'd a monstrous huge floating For Sale ad very near my shop, with no response.) I'm actually more than okay with larger parcels being treated differently from microparcels, but it would be helpful if we knew the general structure of current guidelines, so we aren't wasting everybody's time ARing things that are not going to be addressed, however much we may find them in violation of the spirit (and in this case, the letter) of the policy.
