I'm new to SL, only been checking it out for about a week, and still trying to get a feel for all it has to offer. I'm 43 years old and not bothered by porno, though I must admit SL makes abundant use of it (heh).

I got my first dose of nudity from girly magazines at a much earlier age than our host here (who started the thread) even though I knew well enough the legal restrictions of our fine country. It didn't seem to destroy my mind -- not then, and not now, either.

Of this person, I can only say one thing. You get what you pay for. If you took on the responsibility to go into an ADULT area when you clearly were NOT an adult, it's your own damn fault to have your mind shriveled up by the experience. This is why porno is restricted to people of age 18...that is EIGHTEEN years old, or more. Look it up in a dictionary if you don't know the meaning.

No court in this country would stand behind you with a story like yours. More likely, YOU would be the one getting locked up for violating clear and simple rules. We have this little thing known as a LAW that says if you are under 18, you can't see porno, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes or have sex. Period! Like it...don't like it, too bad.

By the way, I don't know what disadvantaged country you come from, but I would be very careful when mixing words like "horrible" and "U.S." in the same sentence. We are the finest example of a nation ever to grace the planet Earth. We got this way for a reason, because of the freedoms and liberties we afford ourselves, and also the laws we uphold to govern our limits. If your country doesn't boast of these same high standards, then I pity you. But before you start bashing us, I'd suggest you get on an airplane and see for yourself just how nice it is here.

LL is an American company, subject to American laws, and that means it needs to maintain something like censorship where MATURE content is concerned around minors (children under age 1. I don't care how mature you might have been at 16, you were still legally a minor and NOT ALLOWED to see the mature content. If you did, then you obviously lied, cheated and broke the law. And no amount of whining will amend your mistakes.

I would have to agree with many of the other posters in here that you need help. You said it yourself, you were, and probably still are, mentally WEAK, with little or no grip on reality, that you think the whole world revolves around the Internet, and "life" is nothing more than a virtual reality simulation...a game. Damn, how I wish I could be so lost in that kind of dementia as to live in your world and away from my own RL problems.

And in what efficient and realistic way, is LL keeping minors out of the Main Grid? Relying on their honesty when they click they are 18, is not realistic. It just amounts to a cya and you know it. You've all probably lied about your age yourselves.

Nor is it realistic to think that scolding a young person with certain kinds of developmental problems, is going to straighten them out. Readers of the OP's post who are so blind and inexperienced, as to think he is capable of snapping out of his issue, with some tough talk or ridicule, then you need some ridicule yourselves...and you should be sentenced to community service, to work and get some training, with "different" people who face some particular kinds of challenges, so you can learn some things about the real world. I get the feeling that some of you live in your own little monster killing play army arrogance worlds, 24/7 and really have no clue.

If a person has broken legs, scolding them to get up and walk is more then just insenstive and merciless, it is simply, dumb. You should have realized after reading just a few sentences of the Op's post that you aren't going to reach him or help him understand your points, by being, suspicious minded, testosterone drunk, flaming, lamebrains and when I read some of these comments it makes me ashamed of being on the same planet as you.

Granted, it is all too easy to click the "yes I'm 18" link of a porno web site. Just as it is all too easy to fake a birthday on a web form when signing up for something. It goes on the "honor system", and some of us have it and others don't. If there could be a better way, some form of biometrics that could read a fingerprint or other "proof of identity" and compare with a known reference of the person's true age (a government database or such), that might be the solution, but this doesn't exist...yet.



If to follow along your same train of thought as above, how do we even KNOW this person's true age? For all we know, it's a senile old man in a rest home on the other side of that keyboard. Pedophiles "pretend" to be children so they can pick up teens and then have their way with them. This could just as easily be an older person as a younger one. I don't trust anyone on the Internet.



A) This person needs help. End of statement. It was clear in their first post and remains that way even now. To say "get help" is not ridicule, it's an issue of fact.

B) Do not pretend to preach to me about receiving ridicule or about people of "different" nature or challenges. I have a physical handicap and have received more than my share of ridicule all my life, and I'll have no more of it. You want to talk to me about the "challenges" of being different, come to my front door and we'll talk face-to-face. Until then, don't even think to tell me about this since I'm sure I already know far more than you could ever imagine.

My statement still stands... I have no sympathy for those who can not open their eyes and help themselves. If all this person can do is whine and complain about issues that are his or her own fault, I'll not shed any tears for them. We have over 6 million people in this world, many of whom with REAL problems trying to survive. Some are dying from terminal illness. Others are starving from lack of food and living in filth and muck that would turn your stomach. And this one is sobbing over a little porn. Pitiful.

Second, I got tired reading this person's diatribe after the first paragraph. And it continued for page after unbearable page of relentless and redundant banter born of hate and ignorance. Should I feel sympathy that this person opened a door that had a sign hanging on it clearly saying "stay out"? Should I comfort that person from this "mental rape" when the proper authority finally found out and told them this was not allowed, and exercised the proper laws regulating their access?

Yes, there are young people in this world with little or no grasp on reality and who are easy led astray. Only this morning did I read a news article online about a 13 year old girl who hanged herself. The story goes that she apparently had a falling out with a girlfriend of hers. She later found a new friend online, a boy. She and this boy were getting along just fine, a wonderful relationship was forming, until he turned on her and started badmouthing her. She hung herself out of depression.

The police discovered that this "boy" was a fake identity of the parents of the girlfriend she lost earlier. They played this "joke" on her in retaliation of the hurt for their own daughter (though I doubt they intended the hanging outcome).

Go figure.

As far as being ashamed about being on the same planet, I hear NASA has a space shuttle. Throw a rope around it and hang on.

The point here is there are too many people with hang-ups of one kind or another, and not enough sympathy to go around, especially if those hang-ups are self-inflicted. If the OP has a problem, they should have someone close to them...MUCH closer than us "strangers" on the Internet, that they can turn to in times of need (i.e. FAMILY!). If they can not, or will not turn to those people for help, than what possible benefit could you or I bring them?

I'm a believer in family, that one should be able to turn to a parent or sibling for help. Maybe this one is an orphan, or maybe they just don't know how to talk to their family. That's not my problem. I'm a complete stranger -- for all you know, I could be a pedophile, and so could you. Why should we pretend to give advice when this person needs personal attention by someone trustworthy, and local.

I follow the laws and strict moral values for my life. I don't smoke, I didn't try going out to buy beer until I was well into the legal age, and I've never used drugs. My family guided and supported me, which may be more than this one had. I open doors for people and give the right of way when appropriate. I'm generous and kind. But there are limits. If one can not take measures to help themselves, as I have always had to do in my lifetime, then I don't see why I need to baby them.

No one ever cared enough for me to let me go to school and come home not crying for all the harrassment and intimidation I got from it. As a child, people treated me like sh*t. I'm really amazed I turned out as well as I did and that I'm not the one taking up a gun and shooting people, because a good half of them deserve it, IMO.

My post wasn't referring to your post, but to the blatant nasty stuff earlier, but still, I don't think you realize that the Op at the breaking point, is not the only one in his situation in SL. There are going to be some disabled people in SL who need encouragement not flaming, no matter how what they say sounds to you like a deranged diatribe.

The Posts come off like a spoiled angsty kid. The previous thread was mad about his friends not being able to join him on the Main grid because they are underage.

Basically he felt that there should not be any 18+ rules in SL because Age discrimination is wrong.

I think some people are reading too much into all of this.

I think its just a teenager trying to win an argument by saying whatever it takes not matter how outragous. Happens several times a week around my house. ( I have two teenagers)

I've heard such things from non-professional staff, in wards of people with IQ's of 9 who eat their own feces. Ya their just spoiled, whack whack with the baseball bat.

Big difference in someone with an IQ of 9, an IQ of 70 even and someone able to write a post on these fourms. I worked with the developmentally disabled. All with IQs of under 70. None of them could have written that post, most of them couldn't even turn on a computer if they wanted too. Got any other strawmen you want to set up?

Well if porn is so important to you then maybe you are the one with the issues not LL. Also they are legally obligated to keep under age people off the grid. It is the LAW not a choice or rule of theirs.

You are complaining because LL will not break the law so you can break the law. You need to take up your anger with the people that made the law not LL.
