Hi, I'm doing some research for a class I'm currently taking. and I'd like to ask some questions on how people play and what they think about playing different genders. feel free to skip over any questions you don't feel comfortable answering. your avatars name will not be used in the final report.
1.what is your gender? 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? 3.why or why not? 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why?

1.what is your gender? 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? 3.why or why not? 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? OK. I'll bite. Only because all hell is likely to break loose in this thread. 1.what is your gender? Male 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? No - not in SL, although I've dressed up an alt as a woman once as a joke. 3.why or why not? Because I like being male 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? Never! ok. Yes. 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? I try to get the female ones to send me naked pictures so I can call them sluts. I don't do that to the male ones. 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? I heard that makes you go blind. 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? No. I just don't care what people do. I try to judge them on their actions and words. 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? I played a female in Guild Wars - only because I didn't PVP or really interact with anyone there, and if I had to spend hours playing that stupid game staring at my character's ass, I would just as soon it be an attractive ass. I also wanted to see if women had to fight differently than men. I would have expected them to have less physical power and more speed or something like that. Not the case. They fought just like men, only they had breasts and better asses.

1.what is your gender? Male
2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? Yes, but not often.
3.why or why not? I thought newbies would be more responsive to a female persona, but I found the fact that you get hit on by 9 out of 10 male newbies tiresome. So now she is used for female clothes design.
4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? No, but I could start rumours
5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? Yes
6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? Never intentionally
7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? No, I treat them as the gender they are, mostly you get to know in confidence and about why they are playing a different gender, so its best to imagine them as that gender so as not to intrude on the illusion.
8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? No would be my initial response, but I played a Elf Queen in a Fantasy War game once to disguise my identity, regular well know male players were likely to be attacked more than new female players, so I guess it was a war tactic.

2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? No would probably screw it up
3.why or why not? see above
4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? No I tend to take things at face value most cases
5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? Yes
6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? hmm maybe I am not telling...
7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? Not at all
8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? No, have no desire or need to

From: Brann Georgia Oh, really....
. Bradley sent those pictures unsolicited. Or did you mean where I said I "try" to get them to send me pictures? I don't really try all that hard. I put a lot of effort into the ratings, but the whole scheme sort of markets itself. I don't really try terribly hard.

1.what is your gender?
Male
2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex?
No
3.why or why not?
I stick to what I know.
4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own?
Of course not! Not even those Oiled up Nymphomaniac bombshells with jiggly prim boobs and shorts that don't cover their butt cheeks...those are real women, right?
5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender?
Not when dealing with customers or just people I meet in passing.
6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender?
I don't think so, but it sounds intriguing.
7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently?
I haven't been in that situation, but I don't think I would.
8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why?
I have....I used to play as Princess in Super Mario Bros. 2 because she could float, the other characters couldn't. It was a major advantage.

1.what is your gender? Female 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? I have a male alt - he has never left the house 3.why or why not? Since I am a straight female, it just looks better to me adjusting the poseballs with a male rather than with another female. 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? Never thought about it much and don't really care. 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? Yes, I don't flirt with the female avs 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? no 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? not sure I've ever known for sure in this case, so no 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? I don't play any others, so no.

I put on the Beowulf avatar once or twice. 3.why or why not? Come on, it was BEOWULF! 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? Yes 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? At times. 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? I don't know what that means. 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? I haven't asked anyone yet if they were 'playing' another gender. What ever I see on my screen is what I go by. 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? I've played a male in some games thinking it would give me an advantage (strength).

1.what is your gender? Male
2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? Not in SL, at least not yet.
3.why or why not? I only would consider RPing another gender. Otherwise, I at least portray accurately that one real aspect of myself.
4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? Yes.
5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? Depends on the context. Sometimes yes, most times no. Species barrier tends to be a bigger obstacle to me than gender barrier.
6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? Not sure how to answer that one. Yes, I have been male to females, in behavior. Is that advantageous? Mutually, maybe. Otherwise, I don't think so.
7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? No, unless they are more comfortable otherwise.
8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? In various RP games, both table-top and computer FRPGs/MMORPGs, I have had characters of multiple genders for RP purposes. Sometimes, it is just for an opportunity to examine the game art more closely for that gender (ie, a more scientific rationale). Sometimes it is for pure RP value.

1.what is your gender? Female 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? No
3.why or why not? Why should I?
4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? LOL, this is the internet, babe. No one is who the appear to be.
5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? Differently than what? I treat peopl with genders differntly than androgenous robot avatars. I'm not sure how robots want to be treat so I leave them alone until I learn more about it. I used to do the same with furries but I have got to know a few and they ar really nice people.
6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? This has got to be the stupidest question I have ever seen in a "research" questionnaire. I'm sorry, I really try to avoid negative words when I can but this is horrible. Go back, take your time, reword this or better yet eliminate it all together.
7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? If they are playing a character not their own it is a violation of the rules. Gender does not matter.
8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? More likely? Yes. Because many games do not give the player an option. If I play Half-Life I will most assuredly play a male.
You really, and I mean REALLY, need to go back and rework this and quit fishing for the answers you want. Unless you just need something for a Freshman English paper you will be getting a C if and only if the professor does not want you to fail and be in their classroom again.

I split my 20 characters even 50/50 in all classes because I wanted to eventually see for myself what all the different armor art looked like. Problem is, most of them are closets because GW's storage shortage SUCKS! Still, my necro girl is ScArY!

1.what is your gender? r/l -> All 100% woman 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? Of course 3.why or why not? Modeling my creations. 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? Yes, especially when that lithe, 27 pound, 6' 5" angel with wings and flowing blonde locks and mega boobs talks in voice and sounds like my Uncle BubbaJoe. 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? No. I treat everyone the way they treat me. 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? You mean have I had sex with myself? I'm not understanding this question at all. 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? nope...well, yes, maybe. There was one person who flirted with my SL partner, and the partner flirted back, and I got very angry, utnil I found out that the "girl" flirting with my parter was a guy in r/l...then it became funny. 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? Guys get less hassling and abuse than female av's.

When I'm in my male AV, I've made passes at my SL partner, but he refuses to take a walk on the wild side. *shrug*...
How would one take advantage of one's self anyway? nevermind, I probably don't want to know.

1.what is your gender? same as my RL one 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? ewwww 3.why or why not? would be yukky to be male 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? oh quite often in RL, less often in SL 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? I don't go clothes or hair, or skin shopping with guys. they don't really seem to want to buy, or wear the womens stuff 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? Oh absolutely. People are total suckers for cute kitties usually. Specially cute lil yummy girl ones 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? If they dress as a girl, wear the clothes, hair, skin of a girl, then they are treated as one. 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? I did once play a Warrior in Diablo, and have had Necros, and Druids in Diablo 2. But seeming as you chose your character based on traits/skills, not on gender, does that count??? Why? Well there was no choice of having a Female Necro or Druid...

1.what is your gender? Male 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? Not on SL 3.why or why not? i'v not really thought about it 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? Yes 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? Deffinatly 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? Not that i know of 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? I treat them the way there avatar looks 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? i often play WOW. in that game i am a female. The role play is more chalenging as a different gender (when you can actually find decent role playing there) i also find i get treated much differently as a female often getting first pick of items in a raid and cheaper items from other players. I'm also about 3 times harder to hit in battle because of my avatars size compared to that of the males of the same race

1.what is your gender? Male 2.Have you ever played a character of the opposite sex? I have a female alt, but she's just for animation testing so she has no "life" and I can't say I really "play" her other than the occasional shopping spree 3.why or why not? My avatar behaves pretty much like I do, I have no desire to RP a different personality let alone a different sex. Plus I don't think I'd fool anybody besides tens of thousands of desperately horny males, and the conversation would probably be fairly lacking in those cases. 4.Do you often suspect anyone else of playing a gender not their own? I don't think about it, my SL skirt-chasing days were short lived and ended long ago and I can't think of any other reason I should care about the sex of the person controlling the avatar. 5.Do you treat players differently based on their avatar’s gender? I can be pretty flirty with female avatars, if I get the impression that it will be taken in the light-hearted spirit I intend. 6.Have you taken advantage of your characters gender? Not any more than I have "taken advantage of" my RL sex. It is what it is. 7.If you know someone is playing a character of a gender not their own, do you treat them differently? See #4, I don't know or particularly care. 8.Would you be more likely to play a character of the other sex in another game? If so, which one(s)? Why? Well, I don't see SL as a "game" per se, but I can imagine myself playing a female character in a game environment if there were some advantage to doing so, and if the social aspects of the game were such that little or no harm could come from such a masquerade or being caught at it. SL strikes me as the kind of place where the potential for harm is pretty high in that situation. Depends what you do and who you do it with, of course. People who RP different genders with sensitivity, I have no problem with you whoever you are
