But let me put it this way. Treat your friends and loved ones on the grid as celebrities no matter who they are.

If it so happens that fame was inflicted upon them in first life, well, then they are your friend first and famous to strangers later. And that's how it should be.
Absolutely! Wise words as always, Desmond! I couldn't agree more. I treat the Millionaire that I marginally know in RL the same as I do the nursing school student. Both get treated with the same degree of courtesy and respect, unless their behavior deems otherwise.

You seem to misunderstand me, im not talking about how I would treat THEM, its the fact that this small town, hick girl is rubbing elbows with people Ive watched on the big screen, people that I would NEVER EVER meet in real life, people who wouldnt give ME a second glance, but they are here with me in my virtual life..dont you see how that makes me feel..its pretty groovy! Ok, ok..maybe i AM star struck now..sighs, but dont hate me for it?

Famous people?

Who cares. I don't care if people are famous if I meet them RL, even less so here.

Now, helping someone GET famous from here is another matter ...

There are different levels of fame, too. I know a person or two here who are famous to me.

There are celebrities who use SL? TBH, that never even occurred to me, other than the obvious ones, like Duran Duran, for performing purposes. I don't want to know their SL id's, but it would be kind of cool to know what celebrities use it. I mean....Drew Carey uses SL? I just would never have imagined that celebs actually have the time or desire to engage in a virtual world, but after thinking about it, it makes sense. If I were constantly followed by the paps and their cameras, a world where I could spend some time, anonymously and without the constant pressure, would probably be pretty close to a Utopia. Just please, please, don't tell me that Britney uses it. I think I'd have to bitch slap her and tell her to get her life together.
Hmmm....wonder if they suffer through the crashes, etc. I can soooooo see someone like Keifer Sutherland whining on the blog about his constant crashes and lag. (and I'm a huge fan of 24)

EDIT: I do know they've been here for events and performances, and was upset that I had no clue Dean Koontz was going to be on until well after he was. I would have loved to have seen him.....he's one of my favorit authors.

Who do you think Conan is in RL? That story about being a Royal Navy Officer is just a cover.

Oh, this could be a fun game. Pick a forum resident and pick what RL celebrity they would be. Living or Dead.

I do kind of think Trout might be Drew Carey. And don't despair, Drew, errrr, Trout....you have your own brand of charm. Who needs Johnny and Nick?

Conan=Keifer....So, Conan...what was up with the attack on that innocent Christmas tree last year?

I always thought Drew was cute. But with our luck, Trout will turn out to be Pauly Shore

I can't imagine how it would impact my life even if I knew. I've met celebrities in RL and it didn't do squat for me in any way, shape or form. In NYC, it isn't unusual to see them walking in the streets, and for the most part, we ignore them. Only tourists seem to care. To us, they are just neighbors, and we avert our eyes like we do for everyone else.

Here in SL I wouldn't even stop to wonder. Everyone is so "hidden" behind their Av's, how would you possibly know? Or even believe someone if they said so? I just like who I like, and don't care about their level of power, fame, wealth, beauty, or whatever else is going on in their RL. As long as we are simpatico, have rapport and have fun together, that's enough for me.

Drew Carey outed himself a week or so ago in "Parade". He and his wife (who are usually in separate places because of work schedules) get together here in SL. He did NOT identify their avatar names.

BTW, Newt Gingrich recently gave a lecture here. I don't remember his avatar name. There is no evidence that he still logs in after that event.

You will also find other politicians not very well disguised here. That, however, is all for fund-raising, vote-getting effort, not the sheer joy of living a second life. :-)

I wonder if Drew was that very well done, large, portly, cigar smoking Av I saw looking at sex pose balls in Abraminations that nearly knocked me over?

Edit - could have been Newt...

They don't need a second life. 1st life treats those bastards pretty damn good.

It seems to me rather obvious that SL would be a great medium for the rich and famous to easily hide behind anonymity and avoid the flash and swarm of fame. Of course, would seem counter to that for them to come out "I'm really famous musician so-n-so" or such if they were in SL, though most of us cynics would doubt that anyway.

Good for them, then! I think that's actually pretty cool. I don't care if I ever meet one, but thought it interesting that the thought never even occurred to me that they would use it in that way or for recreational purposes. Just always assumed they had so much more going on to keep them busy that time on a computer wouldn't happen often.

I said I was in the reserve actually. I'm not joining up until I graduate my software engineering degree in 2 years.

I think Trout is Strom Thurmond.

I like Drew, too. And am seriously hoping Trout is not Pauly Shore. Are you, Trout? Come on, do tell. Your secret is safe with us.
