Each to their taste - I actually like the blond version.
However, if I was ever innocently 'accused' by an object (or avatar) for being a thief, or any indications thereof, I would shy away from everything related to the responsible person for the rest of my life.

From: LittleMe Jewell I just picked up an item in a hunt from a store I had never been to called CheerNo. A rather cute simple hair with a witch's hat attached. The DAMN hair has the No Rez scripts in it.. That hunt still on? Which CheerNo was it?

I saw a particularly miserable attempt at copy protection for textures at a shop of a fellow who really had some outstanding work on display. The textures were "Buy a copy of the original" (not buy contents) hanging on walls with no script and no texture in the items inventory. Puzzled at how one was supposed to enjoy this (marked "DEMO" defaced) texture I clicked on hide selected and selected the wall they were hanging on... I took a photo of the whole scene and sent a copy to the creator along with an explanation to let him know he wasn't protected at all with his method.

What was his "method"? What was it that you were theoretically buying?

The un-defaced texture was on the side of the prim facing the wall.

From: Argent Stonecutter That hunt still on? Which CheerNo was it? The "Invite Only" hunt -- first location from the website: http://theslhunter.blogspot.com/ However, the witches hat was actually a leftover from another hunt that I just happened to find there, so not sure if that is still there.

I kinda feel like contacting the scripter that actually sells these 'protection scripts' to play with their head asking for a similar solution for my products

From: Argent Stonecutter So all you were buying was a prim textured with the texture? yes. with copy/mod/no transfer. They were what you'd call artwork more than textures. As I said the persons work was superlative and I felt sad that they'd not known how easy it was to rip those things without any special viewer or arcanery.

Agreed.. If it's got all the perms locked down and a dumbassed no rez script in it, they won't be getting any purchases from me. I've also started ARing vendors who sell items advertised as mod, but are in fact a no mod item with a resize script in it. That's fraud any way you slice it.

OK, I'm on a mission. I've traced the skin in that pic to Pulse. The hair designer can't remember which one it is, and both Pulse owners are either busy or off line. So....$500L to the first person who can IM me in world and tell me WHICH DAMN SKIN IT IS. Yes, I'm obsessed, OCD and proud of it. HELP ME!!
ETA: Yes, I went there. Yes, I looked for it. No, I can't find it.

Yah life is hard haha.
I honestly cannot imagine my business surviving if I would even make stuff 'no mod'. To me that's kinda a must with houses, copy/mod.

i am sure most creators know about what bots can do and that items dont have to be rezzed to be copied. in fact the most copybots HAVE to rezz still and some even need mod items to clone or reproduce them . sure we all know what is possible .. as the creators do . they have the choice to just accept being botted again an again or at least to do what is possible so save their work - even if its never enough. not sure what hurts more.. to see your work given away full perm by some ppl or to see how masses of ppl complain in a blog and even make fun about the product itself, which is quite dumb and offtopic :/. you should not blame creators .. there must be some reason for this method if many ppl use it . you should blame that its possible to copy items at all .

As I understand it, werist, copybot clients (at least the newer ones) don't require the item they're copying to be rezzed on the ground; rezzed in world is sufficient -- all the copyist needs to do is find someone wearing the item. The modified client can then be told to save to disk the data the sim sends it so it knows what to draw, and the content thief can later use that file automatically to create a new, full-rights, copy (minus scripts and suchlike) of the hair in question.
The only point of a "no rez" requirement is to prevent a method of copying by script that is just as well prevented by making the object no mod, and which no one in their right mind would use to rip content since it's considerably more complex and time-consuming than is installing a copybot client and pressing a couple of buttons.
The only way we can help this creator protect her hair is by not buying it, so it remains safely in her inventory and boxes, well out of the way of all copybots.

We must help the paranoids keep themselves protected. Do not use their products anywhere in world.

It sux. Most people in this forum will report copybotted content so in part you're preaching to the chior. All the trouble these paranoids are going through to protect their creations does nothing to even slow down a content thief. It does however prevent their honest customers from enjoying the buying experience. I'll not buy from anyone who does not trust me with their products, my not having a copy of their work will help with their peace of mind.

Hey Benksi, Could we somehow work together? You make your castles no-rez, and I will provide some nice no-rez furniture for it. Must work on the permissions for my stuff too, since I sell everything with mod rights. Probably my stuff is not good enough to copybot, so I do not have to worry Selling nomod-nocopy-notranser-norez though, should protect my precious beds enough. wanna sleep? WEAR the bed!

From: Sassy Romano Does if flag it as temp? I'm not sure it does and besides, re-rezzing another will generate a new UUID so I think you'll find it's just because it call llDie().
I know this is how the Magika hair is, the script is even in the root prim, all single shouting script.
Remove, take back to inventory, re-rez, all is quiet.
Whoops silly my, I just rezzed my hair again

This script is represented by Zeev Dinzeo, contact her if you are interested in purchasing it. As long as a person uses their own textures and creates their own prims they can make anything based on a non-copy write protected RL item. If my cousin's RL hairstyle looked close to this jackass's hair design and I designed hair for SL based on that design I'm in the clear. Maybe this creator is basing their designs on RL styles, if so are they infringing on the original stylist's creative intellectual property? Does Zeev know that her script does nothing to protect content? If she does I hope that she is giving this script away for free. If she is selling it as a content protecting script and she knows it does not work as such then she is misrepresenting her product and asking for an AR once her customers realize its bull dunk.

Won't help. I've ARed the darling person who distributes the copybot protector, and she's still stinking up pJIRA.
