I hate Recreant. I'd give just about anything reasonable to change it.
We know. You've said it before. But honestly I see it and think "someone partaking in recreation." And anyone who does know what it means and knows what you're really like probably sees it as irony.

Nope... the name is good. Only didn't forsee that there are million bajillion "Jades" in SL.

People sometimes think the "rn" is an "m" so they'll greet me as Ms. Angkam. But that's pretty rare.

My name was a random name on WoW cause I couldn't think of a name :P

By the time I came here I had been 'Ral' for quite some time, it was already like my real name and I like it :)

I regret it every time I try to pronounce it out loud. :)

Thanks for the kind words, folks. I tend to think of my name the way Bodhi defined it. It means whatever it means. That doesn't change who I am. It still is a bit of an annoyance to me, but like I said - there are much more important things in my life that are worth spending time on than my stupid name.

I think "Trout Recreant" sounds good and is easy to remember, but I understand people have their personal reasons for wanting to or not change their names.

I don't really regret my name, although it doesn't entirely suit what I've become. I only planned on checking things out and at the time I was doing some research into the Borgia family and the name "Lucrezia" was stuck in my head. "Lamont" was the only last name that seemed to flow with "Lucrezia" and so I was born.

I honestly figured I'd suit myself up in some nice 18th Century Italian costume just to play around SL.

But... SL happened and my real self replaced my "in the moment interest". I enjoy Japanese entertainments, and the lure of being neko at long last (tails are a pain in RL cosplay) took hold of me.

However, a Japanese name might have been pretentious. And that's not me at all. But "Lu" suits me really well and I like it very much.

So in the end, I'm happy with my name even though it took a meandering turn.

And that was way longer than it needed to be. heeee.

I first thought I would be m3taphor 'something', yes with a '3', glad that idea didn't happen, I found Raymaker and although guessing it would be a popular name went for it anyways. So yes very happy to be Dekka Raymaker.

I did see String come up as a second name recently and thought 'Theory String' would be fun name to have, but seems someone beat me to it. The only other av's name I have seen I wish I had thought off was Gizmo, Gizmo Raymaker would have been cool.

Never.

Marcel simply is my RL first name, so that was an easy choice. Since my last name is not available, I chose for Flatley, as I am an admirer of Michael Flatley's shows. Could have been another last name but this one caught my eye, so it was decided.
And so Marcel Flatley was born. He is really the same person as the real life me, with more capabilities. Well of course I look better in RL :D

For me a Second Life does not mean a second identity.

but by now i wish i hadn't added the e at the end...

Yuuki written with the kanji 優 "gentleness" and 生 "life"... much better.
ah well, there's no actual "standard" for writing romaji anyways.

I chose Kelli May for its slightly frivolous, fun sound. I can be a bit over-serious at times and I wanted something that'd maybe lighten me up a bit. My apologies to any other Kellis out there, I don't want to imply anything about your personality. That it's easy to spell, say and remember which wasn't a consideration at the time but has been a nice bonus. Not that this stops people calling me Kelly... I don't mind, it just amazes me they can manage it. They must verbalise is first into 'Kelly' before they type it.

For anyone who's ever seen Cool World, it's also a nod to the character Holli Would - hence Kelli, not Kelly. Like any joke, it stops being funny when you have to explain it.

I am considering a RL change of name, but as much as I like it, it won't be to Kelli.

Yes. Constantly. Not Trout; I like Trout. I hate Recreant. I'd give just about anything reasonable to change it, but I have so much invested in this account that I just can't change it. Everything I have that's good is no transfer. It blows.

Meh. There are a lot bigger fish to fry, so to speak. I'm not going to let it get me down.

Now, now!

We've been through this before - at least twice.
You are a knight in armour, with a coat of arms.
It's the image than came to my mind when I first saw the name.

OK?

Suffering thru 4 and a half years of 'salty pie' jokes and whipping my head around in restaurants whenever nearby patrons are ordering dessert are just two of the many reason I've regretted my name choice.

I've made several alts over the years with much cooler and less regrettable names, but I can't seem to stop 'being' Pie, bad jokes and an entire forum culture bent on rendering the word 'pie' meaningless aside.

So yes, I have regretted my choice of name, have several other alternative cool names I could use at any time, one nearly as old as Pie, and yet here I am still, in my regrettable name.

BTW, my name choice has no bearing on my dessert preference.

No, I like my name very much.

Fortunately I've chosen a "real" and nice first name.

I think some choose a name which gives only sense together with the last name. But then chatting in SL you were only called from your friends with your first name.

So always better to choose a good first name, I think. ;-)

Well, my real regret is that the last name I'd rather have was well before my time. Someone actually has it paired with the first name I would have picked, so there's no guarantee I could have had what I wanted anyway.

I picked Nic because the system told me Nicole was taken with all available surnames. (So why did I discover recently that avatar Nicole Writer has a later join date than mine...? The little mysteries of SL...) I am glad I picked a "real" name, though I've seen some very clever plays on words.

Every now and then someone will mistype and call me "Nice". Then I get to tell them, "Well, I like to think I'm nice, too!"

I'd give my eyeteeth to be Honey Lilliehook, but some twit signed up, took it, and hasn't done a damn thing with it.

I've gotten used to HoneyBear, which is frequently shortened to HB, which were my initials in my previous marriage, so that fries me. I immediately respond, "Oh please, call me Honey".

Most people shorten it to Honey automatically, so I've learned to live with it.

I like your name, and find it distinctive ...

I didnt really consider anything other than my first name, which is my true name. I would have liked to carry a name which was a handle I had for many years on forums and in chat rooms, but had to change it because of some rather disturbing griefing ...

I like the facility I have seen on one forum, where there is a registration name, which is displayed in the member's profile, but they can choose and edit their display name, which has led to much hilarity during impromtu parties etc where the names take a topical twist ...

Earlier on this thread I said how I like my name and wouldn't want to change it.

But I would have liked to have a near-identical twin, even if she rarely logged in, but the surname Dada had gone by the time I thought of the idea. Of course, I would have been the more extrovert of the twins, she'd have been quieter.
I think she probably lives on the Open Life grid now, though I haven't met her there yet LOL.

PS - I never did figure out how a well known land baroness or landbotess of yesteryear managed to have a single word name.

I am content with my name. I chose "Madhu" because I wanted a name that reflects my interest in India. I chose "Maruti" because it is an Indian surname, and of the Indian surnames that were available at the time (there seem always to be a few) I most liked it with "Madhu."

Having this name has led to some amusing interactions though. People often assume I am Indian in RL, which I am not. But I get this conversation a lot:

Them: Are you Indian in RL?
Me: No, I'm not.
Them: But you have an Indian name!
Me: ...

I guess it's hard for people to understand why I'd choose an Indian name if I weren't Indian. My feeling is that if I had an Indian name in RL why would I need one in SL? But everyone approaches SL differently, so whatever.

Another point of confusion is that "Madhu" (which means "sweetness" or "honey";) is an androgynous name in India. In some regions it is predominantly a woman's name; in others completely androgynous; and in still others exclusively a male name. In SL I have met people from certain parts of India who are shocked to see me with a female avatar and the name "Madhu." That often leads to interesting conversations as well.

Them: You're a woman!
Me: Er, yes.
Them: I thought you were a bloke!
Me: Well as you can see ...
Them: So why are you named Madhu then?
Me: ...

I also get called "Maddie" a lot, which I never used to mind, though recently it's taken on a less pleasant association and so I don't really like it that much anymore. I wouldn't ask someone not to call me that, however.

Love my name. Would never consider changing it even though a lot of you have pointed out the last name is really "lunacy".

I know I'm not the loony one around here ;)

I've had this same situation with my online name...but not on SL - when I was on IRC and we just had a first name.

I mentioned previously my /whois tag line said "The Royal Russian Redhead." I would get IM's from total strangers:

Them: Are you REALLY royalty?
Me: No
Them: Are you REALLY Russian?
Me: No
Them: Are you REALLY a redhead?
Me: Yes I am :)

And then there were the few who added the proverbial "follow-up question" of all "locales" of my red hair.

They were given places of honor on my mute list. ;)

~ ~ ~

Then there were others who IM'd and just began speaking to me in Russian.

I guess appreciating other cultures and enjoying experiencing a bit of that online is lost on some people.

Speaking of SL names...
I got a 2-part resident login survey yesterday that asked If I would change my SL name if I could, and if so, would I be willing to pay to have it changed.

Pretty much caught me by suprise with that one...
*raises morning coffee in a toast* Here's to hoping they DO allow an option to change resident names.

As for the OP, I'm happy with my name.. although if given an option to change it, I might consider a better surname. I DO have an alt that seriously needs a new name.
