I don't think I have met anyone in world my age (the wrong side of 60). Its good to know I am not the only oldie in SL.

Perhaps we should start an oldie group :)

That would depend on what is considered old in SL terms. If you ask my SL daughters, I am ancient at 34. Might need an invite to this "oldies" group then :D

ASL: American Sign Language?

My heart shudders at the AO *that* would involve!

(and yes...I know the real Acronym...but isn't it fun purposefully picking a different one? :D )

I have a very good and close friend who is on the plus side of 60. Great sense of humor, very grounded and always supportive.

I am sitting here chuckling... I am 26 and yes, a female who has been partnered for over a year with the most wonderful man in SL (in my eyes). He just happens to be 64. I think we have lasted so long because we compliment each other. I have the firey temper, he is calm, we both love to work on projects together, I build, he scripts. He is SL to me. He is my companion, my lover and my best friend.

So, if he has to be sent to a Seniors Sim, I wanna go too cause I find the most wonderful, honest, level headed, non drama people tend (IMO) to be older.

Hi Ceka,
There are about 5 or so D/deaf groups on SL, which include hard of hearing, late deafened, and Cultural Deaf. We have a few members that are Culturally Deaf, who do 'type' in ASL syntax. This is difficult for some, who do not understand that ASL is a language of it's own, based on english, but it is not sentence structured the same. To an english speaker, ASL has a backward syntax. I am versed in both so am often called in to interpret for an ASL 'typist' who is trying to communicate with an english speaker on SL, and the hearing person thinks it's someone who doesn't speak english. Nothing wrong with the ASL speaker's mind, mind you, just that is the format they think in, as that is how they learned to communicate, having never heard speech.

I mentioned there are about 5 groups on SL geared towards various levels of hearing loss, and my sim, Cape Able, is the only actual sim that is set up for D/deaf.

There is a sort of 'hud' in development, been in development on SL for a long time now, couple years, it's slow going. The hud, when worn, sits over the head of the person speaking english, and translates the english into ASL hand signs and finger spelling for the Deaf person who is looking at it. It's still quite slow and cumbersome but it's getting there.

No... not at all.

But the bags under the eyes are getting a little heavy. You could carry those for a spell.

Oh; I just responded to Ceka about ASL. I didn't realize it was a joke. Sorry.

NP Treasure..

ASL to me means American Sign Language too.

But in "netspeak", I'm pretty sure it is "Age Sex(Gender) Location"

So ASL is shorthand for jumping straight to RL personal details.

wow that sounds so neat =) I love when i find out about places like that..
the ASL i was referring to is the one in most chat rooms when you enter the rooms..a lot would ask for your ASL..i guess i should have said A.S.L. which means Age Sex and Location..
still it is nice to see SL helps so many communicate...i have a friend in SL that can't speak in RL because of something wrong with her throat.. but SL lets her talk up a storm.. :D

RL: male
SL: male

RL: reasonably sized johnson
SL: somewhat *ahem* larger

Watch out... I'll go all ASL on you.

This was EXTREMELY common in 2003 and 2004 and SL was the first place i heard of "A/S/L". Though the past couple years I have not run across it. It kind of died off in 05 and early 06 i suppose. I just know i always reacted very negatively to that question.

Now-a-days, the guys figure they are getting to know you by asking line by line:

How r u?

how old r u?

Where do u live?

r u really female?
----------

Which to me is just as annoying ....the "r u really female" i do not mind so much, but it is the "where do u live" question that really gets me fuming because it is just so damn presumptuous and useless for any real conversation unless they are doing the usual Horny Net Geek thought process of "how can i hook up with her in RL", ugh.

i never saw logans run..i've only walked through the room when my father was watching it..but it looked similar and they were all running lol

It really is an awesome movie. It's one of those kinds of movies that you can watch again and again because you probably missed something when you last saw it. Kinda of ranks up there with the first 2 installments of the Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green.

God did Moses look good in both those movies.
