I had someone decide I was a man last night because I was gently ribbing them and they didn't like it. )

So basically prior to you voicing, he had been under the impression that women don't make fun of men (gently or otherwise).

Thus since you made fun of him the best explanation he could come up with was you were a guy ..

I wonder if some of these stereotypes come from the fact that the men dont socialize much with women in their real lives.

Kinda says something bout them.

Getting a lot of parinoid guys lately. Here is a chat snipplet (name removed) I just had a few mins ago. I get a lot of guys trying to get me to voice verify myself. Not sure why as I have zero intention of having any kind of virtual sex with them and have made it clear I do not want to.

You should have told that dickhead that he wouldn't be having sex with a guy. He'd be watching 2 cartoon characters merge pixels whike he watches and tosses off....

Save us all from paranoid homophobes who couldn't get laid in RL if they had a constant stream of diamonds coming out thier ass.

Yes. Everyday with friends and sometimes strangers.

I know there are a lot of idiots out there--but I have a hard time believing that the majority of 'men' (we don't even know if THEY are men) out there are accusing women AVs of being men.

I haven't met anybody that has done this in over 2 years in SL.

And come on, if someone is an ignorant jerk like that...mute them, and move on. Problem solved.

I find a lot more problems with voice in the forums, talking about it, as opposed to in the grid.

Nope, I think that as I was clearly running rings around him he had to think of SOMETHING to try to upset me with, because he was not too bright of aspect.

Mainly, he was dumb enough to try to engage me in a bout of attempted public humiliation.

Brings a whole new meaning to 'rough diamonds' doesn't it? And, possibly, a tear to the eye ...

If you hang out in high traffic areas dealing with sex, dancing, games and bondage...then yes...we run in different circles.

SL Voice
11-16-2007 10:20
I am a talker, I will talk to anyone or thing that will listen to me ramble, so when SL came out with voice, I was excited...until...it actually happened. I have some issues with the voice program inside SL.
#1 - I hate the omni-directional feature. I do not like it when I hear someone talking, and they are only coming through one ear piece because my avatar isn't completely centered on them. Which makes for problem..
#2 - I am constantly saying "Stop moving around so and so I can't hear you if you move over there!"...therefore putting us all in one little pod, and making SL miserable. I'm as hyper as the next person, I can't imagine what people are saying about me when trying to use in-world voice with me, because I move around so much. LOL
#3 - My friends are spread all over the grid...'so why not use IM voice xar?'...well I have, but as many of you know SL has it's lag to kill moments, and when you crash, or someone else who was in the IM conference crashes, means you have to close the already ongoing conversation to then add everyone back to the convo. I hate this, think it's completely lame that LL cant come up with a way to just add someone back into an already ongoing IM voice chat.
#4 - Voice chat lags most of the people I know, including myself from time to time. I have recently gotten a higher rate of net speed from my ISP, making it fairly easy for me to handle many internet things at one time. On the other hand, all my friends have not, so when they crash every 15 minutes just using the voice feature, or they cannot move in SL when using the voice feature, it makes it pretty much useless.

I am working most of the time when in SL, designing, building, etc. and many of you do the same, and voice is great for times such as those, when u don't want to stop every 5 seconds to type. I used SL voice for just a little while, before finding it's still easier to use skype to voice conference everyone. If someone crashes, you find their name, and add them back to the convo. It doesn't lag SL, nor the other people using it because most of the time I am hosting the conference.
So as much as I love to voice chat, I now think that maybe SL voice wasn't SO needed as I thought it was when I first learned they were coming out with it.

I'm curious myself of how many people started to use SL voice and fell back on other voice programs such as skype, yahoo, etc. for their voicing needs.

Although I don't engage in those activities, everywhere I hang out deals with them in one form or another. In fact in my opinion of 2 years experience the majority of SL is covered in those things you listed....

You mean SL in general? Strange response.

Anyway this is the normal conversation for me lately.

Then they walk off or TP elsewhere. Not so sure what is so important about my exact location that it is all they want to talk about. Seems to me more people are looking for the chance of meeting in RL these days. Oh well.

It's clear your not whipping off your panties and saluting. Why waste time on someone who ain't going to come across with the goods, as far as they are concerned.

Mind you that's one seductive approach they are taking. Phwoarr!

Yes it's true, and I in no way judge these activities, nor anyone that partakes in them--I do however feel the best builds, businesses, art, creativity, and design do NOT deal in these aspects--these are the places and things I personally engage in.

Just like in real life, the most inspirational pieces of life are not in the limelight, and must be found. First and foremost, however, one must have the 'want' to find them.

Even though the aforementioned businesses seem to reign supreme, there are still a heck of a lot of amazing content having nothing to do with the 'underbelly' of society.

Don't get me wrong, I've toured it all...one must explore all aspects of life, to fully appreciate what life has to offer.

Well that is a given but I am not so sure why my location is so important to them for wanting virtual loving. Why would it matter where in the world I am? It is as much fake sex here in the USA as it is in China or Australia. It is like they are trying to find someone next door in case they may want to hook up in RL... haha SL is the wrong setup for trying to find RL hookups in my opinon.

I think what you said here: "It is like they are trying to find someone next door in case they may want to hook up in RL..." this, sadly, is definitely something [they] take into consideration.

It's not the reason people 'cyber', (the possibility of RL hook-up), but it's on [their] minds.

I voice with friends (last night, for instance, playing Truth or Dare. One hapless contestant chose a dare that involved yodelling.. Great stuff!). I typically don't voice while I'm out and about because I feel it's a personal connection (moreso than typing). I like to reserve that sort of thing for being with friends. (also, I wear glasses and the headset makes them dig into my head. URGH)

As for guys randomly accusing non-voicing women of being men? I just tell 'em to suck my d..... (Worked for GI Jane, eh?)

Honestly, if I'm not going to lose sleep over some dramatic b/s in reality, the LAST thing I'm going to do is worry if Johnny-plastic-penis thinks I'm a guy in RL. LMAO
