I wonder what is so funny? Are you implying you somehow proved something?

careful they will call us a clique. :p

I'm so sick of the female Avatar gender-bend stereotype.

Men created this problem themselves, they need to sort it all out.

Women shouldn't be expected to help them clean up their mess.

That's not true. Ask some of the males who feel free to post anything about females on here. They will tell you.

I guess he proved that I am a male in first life but I have no idea how to tell my husband.
Maybe that is why we don't have children? I better IM him I guess for some personal advice.

Yeah, voice is definitely out of the 'new feature' stage and it's culturally settled down a good bit.

I put my ears on if I see signs of audio, but can often go through my day without it.

It *is* less of an impact than I had feared, but make no mistake, it is still divisive. I've been in two groups of people in the last few days where people were talking, and at least one person present had no voice ability.

One thing that saved SL, I think, is the fact that there truly are other things to do than talk (either text or voice). In a place like There.com for instance, the focus is much more on talk-talk-talk than inworld shopping, building or all else that goes on here.

Personally, I'm rather relieved.

Except I *am* still very concerned about potential tier issues for older sims re: the voice feature, as mentioned in the Voice FAQ.

I never turned it on and its not even active on my client. I haven't noticed anyone complain about it but then if they were saying something I wouldn't know :)

There are so many bandwidth issues anyhow I can't imagine adding anymore load to the connection or even running anything more in the background program wise.

Wow this is STILL GOING as a conversation thread?

I have voice chat installed. The last few times I have used it have all been with people I've known for ages and it was a nice confirmation of a friendship. For general chat I use text and it works just fine for me that way.

I am due to use it today for the first time with someone I've only gotten to know very recently and I am actually feeling quite shy about it. Feeling shy about it rocks, cos it means that it is meaningful.

It's an enhancement - but as ever people misunderstand just how many people ARE in voice, because it's perfectly possible that they are actually in a one to one or a conference.

The big dramafest about "I'll get accused of being a man without using voice" has, of course, panned out to be a load of tripe. The only person who has ever remotely intimated that I might be a guy has SPOKEN to me on it and knows full well that I am not male. He was, of course, taking the mickey :)

I use it when ever possible .

It is my prefered mode of communication.

lets face it .. it's easier than typing.

Almost as easy as communicatin' in RL .. Just talk .. 'xept press the button .
( this is no hardship as I'm CB'er and radio ham )

( 2x1yz .. (two xray one yankee zulu )(UK CB ) .. ( 2e0IUI ..two echo zero india uniform india )(UK amateur )

Gizza shout .. monitor 27.515USB .. plus 2m and 70cm all modes ( includes SSTV ).

I try real hard to accept all the "girls" that have excuses and leave them be.. ... not one for trouble ( and I'm not into that kind of thing ).

Most new people will use voice as you would in RL .. ( take it or leave it ) ..

Said .. I feel sorry for the Role Players .

Well I am not going to jump on the bandwagon and bash here, a lot of men prefer not to type. There's times I'd prefer not to type, for instance last night when I was so tired I was quite literally hallucinating, there's a certain someone I'd much rather just have been able to curl up with and chat to with my tired eyes shut ...

It is a fact that there are guys playing as women (probably a smaller amount the other way round) - it shouldn't matter. I am toying with getting a shiny ball of light avatar or REALLY becoming a monkey because that way I can mentor without getting hit on, LOL - now there's an occupational hazard they don't mention. Either way it shouldn't matter that I am female anyway.

I still fail to see why people get their backside in their hands about this.

I don't use the voice client either (chears Nicholaz) but I've been having some problems with OpenGL so I decided to d/l the current client version to see if they were client related. I discovered my land was set to use voice so I turned it off, as I was having the same graphics problems with it as the NicholazOS client, I went back to the non voice client, while I messed with the settings. A while later I loged back in with the voice client and surprise surprise my land had voice active.

WTF gives?

My Land, My Choice? Maybe not.

That doesn't sound right ... I think that is because of the different viewers. Did you change the settings in the LINDEN viewer?

Thing about the other one is ... it isn't the official product, so my advice with this would be to drop feedback to Nicholaz re his viewer. I will try to find out how this inter-relates if I can, because you're piqued my curiousity now Lucy.

***edit*** it must be possible to do, as I know a few people using that viewer who do not have voice enabled on their land. Can you change it now anyway in the Nicholaz one?

Even between Linden clients, some changes do not 'stick' - when I was trying to sort out a weird disconnect thing which was happening I tried several Linden viewers and found that the voice settings were different on both too.

I only chat to rl friends on sl. I had to get over the feeling of numbness one has when talking to a laptop.

I do find conversation more spontatneous in text. That sounds weird but if both of you speak at the same time nothing comes out and being aware of that makes it very stilted.

This is exactly why I never loaded it and probably never will because I don't see bandwidth issues getting any better and I am not buying anymore through my internet company just to play a game.

I had a similar situation the last time I tried the official viewer. Every time I signed on it asked me if I wanted Voice on, and even when I said No it stayed on until I changed it in the land settings. Between that and the awful Comm window, I went back to Nick Old School.

I use the EVA voice chat plug in I purchased on SLX. I am not trying to hijack the thread, but, I would like to know if the one purchased item will work for my ALTs as well.

I use it if both avis are willing and are setup to use it. Otherwise, I just roam around "Deaf to the World" until someone engages me in conversation and lets me know that they are voice chat enabled.

Cheers!

I find this interesting.

So basically you voice chat only with people you have spoken with on the phone?

That seems logical to me. In fact back in 1998 when I tried voice chatting it was the same thing, I had only voice chatted with people I knew outside of the internet in some way.
