Does Anyone Actually Use VoiceChat?

I don't personally use voice often, but do find that it sees some use at clubs and regular use by friends and fellow residents.

I don't find that voice is a big 'thing' drama-wise - you either use it or you don't, and i'm not about to judge anyone who doesn't any more than I would for anyone who does. We are all people behind the screen, after all, no matter who or what we choose to portray ourselves as.

I do, however, find that enabling voice via my client does place a lot of unneeded lag time on my frame rates... and given that a major part of my time in SL is building and exploring, this can be a major detriment to my SL experience.

I love voice chat as you find out who the pretenders are. Was so funny to find out how many men avatars partnered with other women avatars who turned out to be men in RL. Some people are really twisted.

Are there any places one would suggest I visit to hear it in action? Thanks.

Two places where I've seen frequent voicers are Bear Infohub and Help Island Public

Yeah, in fact the only place I've been to recently where voice was actively used was HIP. Confusing actually. But when I was offering help most of the voicers were happy to type :)

That's one thing that concerns me. When I go to places like Orientation Island I see all the noobs taking so much time to figure out and understand how to use voice. They should be spending all that time getting the basics down, but I can only surmise they are assuming that voice is very important when they get inworld.

I use it when ever possible .

It is my prefered mode of communication.

lets face it .. it's easier than typing.

Almost as easy as communicatin' in RL .. Just talk .. 'xept press the button .
( this is no hardship as I'm CB'er and radio ham )

( 2x1yz .. (two xray one yankee zulu )(UK CB ) .. ( 2e0IUI ..two echo zero india uniform india )(UK amateur )

Gizza shout .. monitor 27.515USB .. plus 2m and 70cm all modes ( includes SSTV ).

I try real hard to accept all the "girls" that have excuses and leave them be.. ... not one for trouble ( and I'm not into that kind of thing ).

Most new people will use voice as you would in RL .. ( take it or leave it ) ..

Said .. I feel sorry for the Role Players .

What business is it of yours to speculate on the gender behind an avatar and their reasons for it? If finding amusement from something so petty is something of value to you, who is the twisted one here?

Why are you asking "girls" who are not using voice why they aren't? Just curious.

I don't recall my answer "asking" any questions .

Merely statements and fact.

Perhaps it's easier to talk some of them throught their issues than type it out too.

Dearly Darlings,

Some one taught me how to use it last night! I sound like a five year old! But it is fun.

Ever Yours,

I'm still very interested in seeing what it's like, but it sure appears that no one ever uses it. I only hear voices (insert punch line here) when I'm at a club with a live DJ.
Are there any places one would suggest I visit to hear it in action? Thanks.
The dreaded Welcome Areas. Ahern and Waterhead. Sometimes the conversation is civil, but more often than not, it seems people enjoy being mean to each other and generally convincing new arrivals from the word go that voice is best avoided. ;)

My point? You were the one trying to make a point. I was merely asking you a question.

We found an actual great and very useful place for voice! On my island we have a hockey league. We're into our 4th season and just last season some of us started using it for games. We'd open a group IM for the game and found out it was VERY helpful for announcing passes, line changes, etc and also a lot of fun. It added a pretty cool dimension to the game. It's definitely not required for folks to use it, heck we got through 2 seasons without it, but it's a nice addition. We have a few team members who don't use it at all, and that's fine, but me and a couple others get in there and have a good time with it and found it's got an actual useful side to it!

Then we're finding out that it's almost vital to the Refs trying to run the games to the best of their ability. The action is so fast that the ability to quickly communicate verbally with the other refs was much more efficient than trying to type it into an IM box and possibly missing some action on the screen.

I don't like having it on much, otherwise, though. I find it real hard to follow in large groups, and it's too personal in some ways to me just to run around with my mic live all the time. I don't really role play much but also not one of the folks who consider the avatar just an extension of me. He's his own and much nicer than me :D

Has it occurred to you that quite often it might be that they know each others RL gender? Or don't even care since its SL not RL?
