I avoided downloading the voice client for ages until some friends planned to use it for an after-show party. Not wanting to be left out, I hurriedly logged off and downloaded it, but by the time I was back in-world, they had all given up and switched to Skype.

I occasionally have it active just to listen, but not to speak, because I hate wearing headphones and speakers cause delay feedback with a mic. I don't think I have ever heard anybody say something interesting except once, at BurningLife, somebody was doing a play reading, reading all the parts him/herself using voice-morphing software. Oh, and reciting Sylvia Plath poems in a Cyborg voice too - that was fun.

I agree with the comment about text being more spontaneous, at least for me - I have always felt I am more articulate when writing than speaking.

Also, I don't think they make voice-morphing software that can make you sound posh yet - perhaps I'll wait for that.

That doesn't sound right ... I think that is because of the different viewers. Did you change the settings in the LINDEN viewer?

Thing about the other one is ... it isn't the official product, so my advice with this would be to drop feedback to Nicholaz re his viewer. I will try to find out how this inter-relates if I can, because you're piqued my curiousity now Lucy.

***edit*** it must be possible to do, as I know a few people using that viewer who do not have voice enabled on their land. Can you change it now anyway in the Nicholaz one?

Even between Linden clients, some changes do not 'stick' - when I was trying to sort out a weird disconnect thing which was happening I tried several Linden viewers and found that the voice settings were different on both too.

I normaly use the Nicholaz OS version (non-voice, no voice land options)
Loaded the Official 1-18-3-5 version, voice was default actictive on my land, (switched it off). Didn't solve my openGL problem.
loaded the official RC version, voice was still enabled on my land, switched it off again. Still didn't solve my openGL problem.
tweeked some graphics settings loaded the nicholaz OS version, still had graphics probs.
switched off my machine and went to bed.
did some more tweeking and loaded nicholaz OS version still have probs.
Got bored watched tv for a bit.
loaded 1-18-3-5 version voice active on my land again.

hope that clears it up for you :-P

It shoulden't matter which version I use to switch off the land settings, it should be persistant as they are server side settings not client side.

QUOTE]

In the end, this is the best reason for me to continue with text. My alt and her bf (i.e. me of course to clarify since I tend to mess this up a lot!) had a long discussion about this recently, debating about whether or not to try using voice or not, inspite of all the reasons why we both thought it might not be a good idea. In the end, we both agreed we love the written word and excel at it. Both of us are writers, he professionally. He won me over in many ways with his gift of the written word. And while we both could be clever in speech as well - we both think we would be more articulate if we continued with chat instead. Let alone, it could just get too steamy otherwise and SL is addictive enough at times, without making it into "phonesex" lol (just being real!)

Why are you asking "girls" who are not using voice why they aren't? Just curious.

I don't ask any "girls" I meet why they can't voice .. just the ones that after 2 or 3 weeks ( and plenty of other excuses ) ar'nt able to do so.

I will usually take any one as I find them .. and also "let be " for a while their "reasons" why.

Going down the thread .. before the "Good Ridance" ( thanks Colette man/mate) .. I yet gotta get round to that.

Please read my post in full ..

I quote .. "Said . I feel for any role players"

That includes any men that play girl avatars.

I guess he proved that I am a male in first life but I have no idea how to tell my husband.
Maybe that is why we don't have children? I better IM him I guess for some personal advice.

Yeah .. I guess I proved that at least .. ( says You ( Eeeuks !! )..

IMHO I would break it to him gently ...

As for children .. try a diffrent than same sex marriage .. maybe you will then have one child at least.

Brought what on?

Your demonstration of not understanding anything that was said to you in this thread?

Like I said you lack reading comprehension.

I don't have a boyfriend. If you are referring to Susie, I don't even know her.

I am not sure you are mature enough to handle a virtual world like Second Life. Why not go play WoW or something. You'll do better.

I like the way he concludes each of his posts like he has scored the final point.
