*smiles* That makes me add, I'm thankful for Baseball. It has brought me such joy, sometimes when desperately needed for many years. Bourbon, too.

I think that more than any other sport, baseball makes the best memories. Of course, you remember going to other events, but as a little kid, spending a sunny day at the ball park with your dad, eating hotdogs, singing during the seventh inning stretch, falling asleep in the car on the ride home with a souveneir ball clutched in one hand - that's the stuff you carry with you your whole life.

Oh crap - this thread is killing me. Now I'm thankful for all the times I spent with my dad before he passed. I miss him daily, but what great memories I have. I'm so glad I can look back on those times with him when I'm feeling beat up, confused or lonely.

Except for the falling asleep in the car part, right on Trout. For me it was dodging perverts on the subway going home.... :p

I remember sitting in the car in the driveway listening to Dodgers games with my grandma because it was the only radio that had good enough reception to pick up the station that broadcast them. That time is something I haven't been thankful for in years and years, but all of a sudden, I'm feeling pretty good about it.

She never told me to count my blessings, but she did tell me to go get the bourbon every time the Dodgers won. Does that count?

I'm sure it does Trout :) What a wonderful lady! I send my very best wishes to all SL-ers in America and hope you all have a most enjoyable Thanksgiving.

(PS - I don't really know who the Dodgers are - is it baseball?)

The Dodgers are baseball - the old timers remember them as being from Brooklyn, NY, but by the time I was around to listen to them, they were in Los Angeles. They won the Series in 1988, the year my grandmother passed, following one of the most dramatic home runs ever hit. We are all pretty sure she stayed alive just long enough to hear that game.

Yes, and I still am bitter over the Playoffs that year.

So late to this thread, somehow it bypassed me.

I am grateful for all the things I sometimes take for granted, my family (most especially my husband and siblings), my friends, my home, my job, the stability of my life. One particular friend, not of this forum, who I met as a result of SL who has added a new dimension to my life that I never thought possible. And, my health, which in the past year+ has been a source of never ending frustration but finally (I hope!) seems to be getting under control.

And, for all the wonderful people I have met through this forum, who also have added a lot to my life. The friendships I'm forming here are as valid as any I have in RL. If anyone had told me this so called "game" would have made such an impact on me, I would have scoffed at them. Well, don't I have pie on my face :D

Grateful for....
11-21-2007 19:49
What a nice thread!

I'm grateful for so many many things. Most of all for my son....who's an eccentric three-year old and full of surprises. For having my father for 4 years, short a time as it was, it was still the best. For my mother who was the kindest, most non-judgemental person in the world. For my brother who is without a doubt, my best friend.

I'm grateful for my life and existence....sometimes I regret choices and decisions I've made along the way, but I thank God that he (or she!) didn't hold those bad choices against me :)

Thanks Pocket - lucky guess of mine. I should have read down the thread, then I wouldn't have needed to ask. No, I'm not from Wales, but I think you have spelt Wales correctly in Welsh :)

People in SL do assume I am Welsh and they sometimes speak or write to me in Welsh. "Gwna mo adnabod unrhyw Cymraeg" means, I don't know any Welsh - and this is all the Welsh I know - lol.

I'm thankful that my ancestors were among the few not to die from the intentional introduction of smallpox and the forced relocations.

Thanks for the details Trout - it's good to have such happy memories. :)

We played Rounders at school in the summertime - but I was useless. I always dropped the catches, couldn't hit the ball and I throw like a girl too.

Apologies for the little boo-boo on my part.....Ta bron orm (sorry in Irish...but probably spelt wrong;-)

I think it was your signature that made me assume that you were Welsh....such a dingbat sometimes.

But hey, I got a free Welsh lesson from the experience...(well I hope it was free  )

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving where I live, but it's good to see such a positive thread, so I'll toss my L$10-worth in as well...

I'm thankful for the friend of mine who mentioned SL in passing on his blog during a day when I was bored and looking for something to do, so I decided to check it out coz it looked interesting... and I've never looked back since. :-)

I'm thankful for the ever-underappreciated Lindens, who put this wonderful virtual world together and designed it to encourage freewheeling creativity and exploration. I know that not everything works right all the time, but I'm glad SL exists, and that I've had the opportunity to explore it.

I'm thankful for all the folk who have taken the time to build in-world tutorials that explain the ins-and-outs of how to do stuff - folk like Jopsy Pendragon and his Particle Lab, and the person who's name I don't remember *sheepish look* who assembled the Ivory Tower Library of Prims... these have been invaluable resources to me as I've been teaching myself to create stuff in-world.

I'm thankful for all the folk on the forums who put time and effort into answering questions and explaining stuff. A lot of things that happen in-world can be downright perplexing at times, and having somewhere to go where I can ask "hey, does anyone know why X is happening?" is something I'd be very sorry to lose. Yay Forums!

If we're gonna name names, there's one person in particular who I am particularly thankful for the friendship of. She doesn't visit these forums (that I know of) so won't read this, but in-world she's been helpful and encouraging as I started teaching myself building and scripting, and she's been a fountain of good advice and support as I've gotten my business up and running. Special thanks to Flea Bussy for her supportiveness and assistance. I'm also thankful for a couple of friends who served as beta-testers for me early on (before I figured out about Testing Alts) and who have given me lots of useful advice and suggestions: thanks to Attica Bekkers and Podruly Peccable for putting up with my incessant "hey, you wanna help me check something out?" requests. :-)

I'm also thankful for all the folk who've visited my little store and have bought things that I've made. I'm having an absolute ball running my business, and it wouldn't be half so much fun without the customers to motivate me and encourage me to try new things. And I'm also thankful for the folk who have come to my store, kept coming back to chat, and have become good friends of mine. It's wonderful when that happens!

Thanks for the 46 positive posts here so far. And to the one who was able to find something negative to say in a thread like this, I look forward to your performance as the Forum Scrooge come Christmas.

It is what it is.
