During this holiday week, it's nice to take stock at what we're grateful for. When it comes to SL, pretty much the only thing that comes to mind these days for me are the friendships I've made in the last year and a half.

So many friends come to mind. But I'm exceedingly lucky to have met Rosie Castro, whose tireless enthusiasm and hard work keep me and my residents happy and nurtured.

And I'm very grateful to have Ava Glasgow as a friend and forum role model. If everyone was as helpful and kind as Ava, this forum would not need a ResMod to clean up the messes we make.

Who or what warms your heart this holiday season?

I signed on in June, following in a friend who promptly abandoned me. I was picked up and dusted off by Catherine Kappler, who gave me all the ins and outs of SL, helped me get "suited up", and patiently tolerated my newbie questions and mistakes.

Sadly, we're both very busy, so we don't talk much anymore, but I'll always be thankful for the time she's given me.

Then I met Kristee Lane, who became my best friend and roommate, and whom I love dearly.

Stacy Noel - owner of the club I manage and my friend.

Capm Chemistry - my RL and SL hubby, who I adore, and who encourages me to build my business as large as I want to. :)

And of course, the people here in the forum who have taken over the mentoring role, as I learn that I need more questions answered :)

Ordinarily, I might come up with some more prosaic answer. But there is only one way I can answer this at this time.

Friends to share fun and happiness abound, but it is much more difficult to find those who willingly support each other in times of sorrow. I'm grateful for having met so many people whose lives I have touched and who have touched mine so strongly that we can feel each others' pain and grief. In just under a year here, several people I've met in SL, all beloved and honored by their friends, have passed away in RL. Recently, my RL family suffered a devastating loss.

It's not easy to be thankful at this time, but the profound love and affection among my friends here is something I never expected to find, an amazing intimacy I've known only twice before, a wondrous gift of their hearts for which I am truly grateful.

The many friends I've made in these few short months. My Mistress in particular.

The incredible laughs that SL has brought to me. Hardly a day goes by in SL that something doesn't make me burst out laughing at some point. Be it in world or in this forum. It doesn't sound that important, but it is to me.

You are definitely slutty in the best possible definitions of the word. Dirty, hot, and a little scary, but in a good way. I'd like do awful things to you, but I'm pretty sure you'd snap me in two like a twig and leave me cross-eyed, dizzy and confused. I'm giving you a 9.8, tied for the top rating ever given. Almost off-the charts slutty. Shame on you and congratulations. -- Trout

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

having spent the past few months seeing my father-in-law deal with poor health has given me a new perspective on my own health.

I'm thankful that two weeks ago I typed 'Second Life' into Google out of curiosity.

Having spent many miserable months in RL, EVERYBODY I have met here has made me smile in one way or another. I regularly laugh out loud and feel genuinely touched by the time people are prepared to spend helping out.

SL is slowly restoring my faith in RL.

Who or what warms my heart?

All the good friends I've made in SL over the last six months...more than I've ever had in RL. Most especially the Forum community. I love you all, even the ones I tease or argue or disagree with.

My friends (few in number, but each one all the more important thereby) in RL.

My loving, loved, and sometimes frustrating family.

My dogs, who like all their kind give unconditional, constant, unwavering devotion and love. In addition to my heart, they warm my feet.

Thankful that I am getting better at using Adobe but I got long ways still ago.
The person who I won't name who kindly gave it to me last year.
In SL I am thankful for my friends who have helped me in numerous ways.
I grateful that I am no longer prisoner of my prim addiction and not spending every spare dollar on land.
In RL, A warm place to sleep that is my own and another year of living on my own.
My nurse and my boyfriend in real life that helps my rl self.

I'm most thankful for my friends, family and home. I'm thankful for all the new things I've discovered and tried in the last year. Also I'm continually grateful that I'm as fit and healthy as I've been in a long time when a couple years ago at this time I was dealing with what I thought would be a permanent disability. I will never take mobility for granted again.

Best wishes to everyone that you have more things to be thankful for than you have bummers!

Why Wait?
11-20-2007 08:34
Why wait once a year to be thankful? Why wait once a year to show your mother appreciation as in Mothers Day? Father's Day, Christmas and most other holidays?

Granted, I know they're holidays but too much emphasis is put on these days. For the most part you shouldn't need to wait for a holiday to do some of these things.

To me they're just another day in the week.

This is a good thread for me this morning when I don't feel thankful for much of anything. It's a reminder that I have an awful lot to be thankful for. Wonderful friendships, the support of people I love, the people here who have brightened my life, often without having any idea how much they have or without doing anything other than just being themselves. I have a roof over my head. My mom survived a major health crisis this summer and we thought we had lost her. I've still got a roof over my head. My health is good and despite a thoroughly messed up back, I can get as far back into the hills as I need when I want and I can still land a fly on a postage stamp from 30 yards out, even on a bad day.

Those are the things that matter. It's easy to lose sight of them when your back is up against the wall and when the negative things in life start to pile up. I'm thankful that Raymond started this thread.

Stephen - we're thankful you're not American as well.

Hah! You know I'm kidding. Enjoy the turkey!

I swear, ever time I think I've gotten all the soda off my screen...

Me I'll be different,
I'm thankful for SL and LL, which has allowed me wonderful opportunites to meet new people, learn new things, and actually enjoy so much that isn't/wasn't available to me otherwise.

The ability to be online again, which facilitated the above and more.

all the wonderful people I know or reconnected with because of the above.

my good RL friends w/o whose help and encouragement none of the above would have been possible.

the great many friendly/funny/smart people along the way, including the ones in these forums.

and that thanksgiving only comes once a year, because turkey is overrated... gimme roast beef or ham, or better, STEAK (new york strip, med/med-well, seasoned to perfection)

I'm thankful for the people I've met over this last year, both those who have continued on as friends and those who drifted away. I'm thankful to my close friends and my family for being supportive of me during troubled times. I'm thankful to you guys for making me laugh and making me think now and then. :p And finally I'm thankful that I'm healthy and hale.
