From: VooDoo Bamboo From: Ava Glasgow This is absolutely true. The Ginko fiasco has shown us that someone can run off with over half a million dollars real money, and LL will do nothing. QUOTE] "Disclaimer *WORLD STOCK EXCHANGE IS A FICTIONAL SECURITIES EXCHANGE AND IS NOT A REAL SECURITIES EXCHANGE. THE WORLD STOCK EXCHANGE DOES NOT USE REAL CURRENCY AND ONLY OPERATES USING FICTIONAL CURRENCIES CALLED (LINDEN DOLLARS) AND (WORLD INTERNET CURRENCY). USING THE FICTIONAL LINDEN CURRENCY IS SUBJECT TO THE TERMS OF SERVICE BY LINDEN RESEARCH INC LOCATED AT WWW.SECONDLIFE.COM AND USING THE FICTIONAL WORLD INTERNET CURRENCY IS SUBJECT TO THE TERMS OF SERVICE BY WIC EXCHANGE PTY LIMITED LOCATED IN AUSTRALIA" Yet people continue to dump their money into these things.... It's a casino. The type that goes under LL's radar. The people dumping their money into it are gamblers.

You have learned a lesson there mate. Never give any money to anyone unless you either are paying a escort girl or you know them very well and they are friends.
I have had several so called girls asking me for money in sl and I answer by saying if they give me a fuck or blowjob then I will give them the money. All then tp away from me lol. Im not a shallow man but find this is only way to keep the beggars away from me.

Very sorry to hear about your misfortune. Its sad that even after the initial rip off, salt is added to the wound when the individual thinks stealing others real money is part of the game.

From: Broccoli Curry Just as an example, I would trust Desmond Shang - who has a good reputation here, is a well known name, and has thousands of dollars tied up in SL via Caledon - but I would not trust Ruth Newbie who was 0 days old, no payment info on file. Awww! If u buy me skin I fix up ur avatar next wk k? grin

First off. how are you going to be so naive as to pay someone any amount, especially someone you don't even know?
Although it doesn't matter look where you was at. What did you expect? You went shopping for more then just guidance into sl shops and were taken for a ride.
In your conversation with her I imagined she was able to see you were an easy mark and took advantage of you. Now you can't complain it was your fault for doing what she asked.
Lesson learned..the hard way.

personally i look with great disdain on beggers in the game ie. dancers , escorts . but its just an example of how people are willing to sell their soul for money .

Dancers and escorts are not beggars, in my opinion. If you want to watch someone dance, it is a courtesy to tip them, but you don't have to do so. If you want to have sex with an escort, you are paying her for a service -- its not "begging".

Some of the above was a little harsh but unfortunately SL can seem like a harsh place sometimes if you're new and optimistic and trusting. I can't really add to any of the truths stated so far but just want to encourage you to let it go as a lesson learned. You're better than her and that's it. Personally I try to enter every situation assuming the other party is acting in good faith, but I don't hand anything over that I'd miss without first really establishing more of a relationship with the other. (And I paid L$7K for my skin! Never regretted it for a second.)

Yes.. lesson learned.
Thank you for your support.. I'm am going to continue though with my little group. As I don't mind getting banned out of the game right now.
I've got a person who heard the story and asked me to join the group. I made a nice"name owes vic" tag. It's not going to get my money back I'm sure, but it will maybe help other people becoming aware of this person.

Actually Vic I wouldn't worry too much about karmic balance here. It's already in full swing. Consider, if it were a 'job', the amount of time spent with you for 10 bucks... and the fact that not everyone can or will pay anything - that's a *very* sad, sorry, pathetic way to make income, yeah? Secondly, to do such to people, it's inescapable that in the dark of the night the perpetrator *knows* what they are. That's not too easy, and while it's possible to put on a good front one cannot lie so easily to oneself. Sooner or later "I am a loser" will echo loudly. Personally, I feel sorry for such people. With such lack of hope and vision... what a pitiful state. This may sound crazy, but I would recommend this: forgive and move on. My guess is that you were dealing with someone young, probably a male, clearly very disillusioned with life. I've pulled aside a few people obviously trying to scam me, and talked to them. $L 500 or whatever is nothing to me. Try this: "I'll GIVE you some money, if we can discuss something sincerely for a minute. Why do this to yourself? It pays, but it's harder than succeeding through reputable means!" They don't always listen. But attacking an anonymous reputation is pointless. Forgiveness and setting an example of a moral, ethical, good man is incredibly hard to ignore. Likely, you won't get 'satisfaction' right away. I'd strongly recommend going out and doing something random and good for an anonymous stranger. Not for the anonymous stranger's sake, but for you. It will cure the bitterness and put everything in perspective. Good luck.

From: Vic Lamont Well i'm not going to rest my case this easy. I'll see what LL themselves have to say on this mather. I'm very shocked that people just say that I should leave it this way. The game is based on trust. A lot of artists and performers who play this game every day are payed this way. There has to be a system where people like me could get at least a Moderator or something who can try and settle this in a human way.
It is real money.
If that's the case i'm no longer willing to play this game. I can't see from behind my computer trough an avatar who is to trust and who not, i'm sorry. You guys have like a 6th sence or something else i can't comprehend. A recent very infamous "Investment scheme" involved a "banker" making off with over 100 million in Linden dollars. LL didn't step in there. I find it impossible to believe they would interfere in your 4000L issue.

It doesn't matter whether it was 4000L or 4000USD. The feeling of being taken advantage of is the same, if not the financial pain. It just hurts you to dwell on it. Broccoli: Please buy Desmond a skin - Look at his forum avatar!! He's just a pencil drawing. He doesn't even have the basic Ruth skin! Poor guy. I'll chip in.

From: anton Keynes they sell themselves , still don't rate high in my book sorry . one notch above the beggar level ??? lol Geez, anton...everyone sells themselves. The builder sells his time and talent, embodied by his creations. The consultant sells her time and expertise. The musician sells his performance time, and the time it took to develop his skill. The escort sells her time, and her skills in a specialized form of impromptu acting/storytelling. The dancer does the same, but limits her scope to the striptease rather than roleplaying at intercourse. You have to remember...this is SL, not RL. Women in the sex-worker field here are not selling their bodies, are not subject to disease, drug addiction, rape, and exploitation as are their real world sisters. The skills required are not the same...the SL dancer or escort must be literate, imaginative, and empathic in a way that the RL whore seldom is. But the person who cheats her client...whatever field she works in...is selling herself in a different way. As Desmond points out, she may make money...but at the expense of her self-respect. She is squandering her soul. That's too high a price to pay, IMO. Desmond has a great proposal to counter such people, too. Two proposals, actually. Talk to them, get them to think about what they're doing to themselves. And wash out the bad taste in your mouth by performing some Random Act of Grid Kindness. I gave out a few hundred $L last week to random newcomers at Orientation Island Public. It made me feel very, very good.

From: Alicia Sautereau don`t give anyone money unless u intend to donate it I have been much happier in life in general since deciding to look at things things this way. I just wave bye-bye to any money I give people, even if we actually have an agreement that it's a loan. In SL I hand out small amounts pretty freely. People get such a kick out of it, particularly newcomers. OP, I agree, your 10$ was actually a fair amount to lose in one-shot scams, by SL standards. I think its possible, tho, that having your group will make you overall unhappier, by reminding you about it all the time. But it hurts no-one, so if it gives you pleasure, go for it.

Eek....tough lesson for sure. but yeah...I'd say chalk that one up to experience and don't ever loan L's to a near stranger.
However....given that she made you a false promise....I can at least step up and offer you some in-world help. If you need anything...shopping advice/partner. Look me up. I love helping people and I'm great with creating a style/look for an AV. I also do shapes (modifiable) so if you'd like to go pick one out at my shop....I'll give ya one.
((((hugs)))) sometimes SL brings out the worst in people...but it can also bring out the best.

loaning people money in SL is like loaning money to relatives.
Not only will you probably never get it back.
But the person who got the loan will act indignant you want your money back.
