OMG yes quoted for utter truth. I did know someone who had a male sub who was a very convincing tranny (please don't start debating THAT here or the morality thereof!) who used to send a picture of himself dressed to see if anyone noticed (these were trolling HNGs on Dalnet I should add). No one twigged it.

One of my best friends in sl is a big voice chatter, which I am not. I avoid voice for the same reason people avoid pictures, I don't want to know what people look like or sound like in rl. I am here for a Second Life. Anyways, I always put voices to peoples text in my head, and this friend of mine ended up sounded EXACTLY the way I pictured his av to talk. It was one of those truly disturbing moments for me, and I have not even turned voice on since.

Otherwise I except they to discuss the situation in a adult mannor and not start throwing direct personal insults as I did not.

If you want to comment on 'all club woners seem to do this...' I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch. And I certainly wouldnt if I wasn't part of the sub group he/she was talking about.

So either I hit the nail on the head with these people or there are a bunch of drama queens feeling the need to take up the mantle of something that has nothing to do with them directly except start a conflict rather then simply debating/discussing it. So which is it?




Yes I will go out of my way to tip toe though the dasies to make sure I dont hurt any more fragile egos or estemees. Or perhaps, people on the net should grow a LITTLE skin and take posts such as mine for face value rather then reading into it to find every way to twist it into a personal insult.

My advice (which I will put my flame proof boots on for) is grow up to those people. *shrugs* I am not going to take the hand hold lets tripple read my post to make sure no one ever will be offended my anything approach no more then you are likely to adopt my view.

And I am not trying to be a ass clown or continue a argument, simply being fully honest of my opinion and view. If you want to flame me for that (certainly has not stopped some of you) more go ahead. Far from the first time in 20 yrs certainly not the last. *chuckle*

Inworld, I prefer not to see RL photos. I like to let there be a little space for magic in SL ... for people to depart from their RL identity, as well as their RL tasks. I think my favorite avatar choices at the hangout right now are Joseph and Snowman ... big cat and dolphin, respectively ... I like to get THAT hint about who they are, and guess the rest as we go. I like mystery, I guess

But I'm not much of a roleplayer, and sometimes as friendships have progressed in SL, real things creep in, very naturally. I have yet to know someone well in SL and RL, who can also maintain their SL "character" as a separate thing, sort of a 'mood', within the friendship. But I think that should be possible, and might be fun.

I never realized how private a person I am before coming to SL ... I have to force myself to put anything in my profile! Tho I'm outgoing and generally very happy to talk and let people get to know me. But ... I'm designing an abstract avatar for myself. More hiding.

Responding to the original post and skimming through the many posts in this thread... (No offence to anyone)...I am at work at the moment and pressed for time.

I don’t mind if anyone sees my RL picture in my profile...(and yes it is there to see if you wish too see it) and if it makes you feel less comfortable seeing it and you decide to steer away from me when looking at it, then it probably is best we don’t meet anyway. I always felt, and will always feel this way personally, if you can’t accept me for who I am then it would probably not be a good idea to enter my life. I am not about masks or hiding who I am. I sure as heck won’t give you my email address or phone number or real name so that you can stalk me, which happened once and never again. But my picture, well, I can live with the fact that everyone who cares to look, knows what I look like.

By the way, it does not affect the way I perceive or accept you if you have or don’t have a RL photo of yourself in your profile...I accept what you permit me to know about you without passing judgment...I love all of you! Peace...

I can't help it. When some of you mention 'hiding', I keep picturing in my mind a game of hide-n-seek. A favourite game among my nieces, nephew and I. (BTW, do NOT hide in a suitcase as it seems to be the last place anyone will think of looking. Funny at first, but after 30 minutes, not so much...)

I'm still not convinced that someone with no picture in their profile is 'hiding'. There are many things about me that are not in my profile. So what? Why would a stranger _need_ to know anything about me? How can anyone assume anything about me just 'cause there isn't a picture there? It simply means there's no picture.

Yanno, I dont go wandering around my RL showing off pictures of my SL, why would I do it the other way around? Those who really need to see me, and I decide the 'need' will, everyone else gets to draw a prettier picture in their mind and I am ok with that lol.

Maybe if I showed people my AV in RL they would think differently of me and think I am hawt.

Kudo's GG, you said what I was attempting to, perhaps in a more tactful way.

Just to clear up a possible misconception. I don't think those that say we don't look at the RL tab say we won't accept the real you based upon looks or whatever. To me, it's just that it isn't important who or what you are in RL for me to have SL interaction with you.

Awww it's not that. Frankly if you had a picture of your cat in your RL tab too ... I just don't like ANY rl pictures in SL.

There is nothing wrong with being as immersive as one wants to be, for whatever reason, and neither is there anything wrong with those of us who choose not to be.

Anyone can have events or periods of time in their RLs that might deliver a damaging blow to their self esteem. Even the toughest skinned types aren't always immune.

I can see how SL could be a welcome respite for many folk with various problems and, if a bit of escapism helps, good luck to them I say. They shouldn't be made to feel unwelcome. It seems very unfeeling to suggest they ought not be here, or should somehow shape up or ship out.

Last year I had a few months when RL sucked bigtime and I was very glad to have some SL sunshine brightening up gloomy days. I feel for anyone already low or depressed for whatever reason and then coming upon the disparaging remarks in this thread.

I don't think you actually read my post with any sort of an open mind. Your whole response seems more biased against the people you disparaged the first time.

My point was if you want to avoid negative flack you have to be more diplomatic in how you post.

If you don't mind the negative flack don't.

But seeing as you were the one whining about how they were attacking you - I offered some suggestions.

Its still a bunch of nonsense.

I started playing in a RP sim and posted some pictures on Flickr. Started to change my mind about what was going on when I found a group for that city and noticed several people I had interacted with were actually the same person. Then I saw a real life picture of someone . . . and yes, it does change things for me. And no, I didn't go looking for real life pictures, I was looking for Second Life pictures on Flickr.

Hey neat, I'm second generation military brat (Grandfather in army, so mother was army brat; father in air force, etc. ). I am not in the military, though a cousin was, and a brother in law was, but that has nothing to do with me.

With all due respect, some of us have a fine FLs and don't need our FL data, photos, names, phone numbers and biographies to be spread all over the internet, to meet strangers on face book and show them our pics around. We have real friends with real faces in real life. We have real life partners and real sex in in real life. We want SL to be a seperated entity, a world of fantasy with no limitations where we can be anything we want, a truly _second_ life. I wonder which is more "disturbing", a person "hiding" everything about their FL or someone putting their CV with pic and webcam link on the FL tab?

Really sorry, but I began that "fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee" quote in my head, it switched at "butterfly" to a Mike Tyson voice, and I then read what you wrote hearing the Mike Tyson voice . . and picturing Mike Tyson saying it (for those not in the know - Tyson is a really huge well built boxer (last I saw, could be a 300 pound weeny now that he is off somewhere) that has a Richard Simmons . .dang it . . a very squeaky voice; He is the kind of guy you want to laugh when he talks, but know he will bite your ear off if you do, and I'm not joking about bitting your ear off).

Tyson in his prime, was quite a brute, poor defensively, but ulta-aggresive in attack.
