i guess i dont mind sl being down but only if they fix the attachment problem im having for about two weeks now. i cant wear most of my outfits because my attachments wont work. ive tried everything i can think of. clearing cache and reboots. moving to less laggy regions. ive tried reattaching objects to different body parts. its as if sl doesnt even recognize that my attachments exist anymore.

some previous versions were having issues with attachments

If you update to the current you should be fine (well when you can)

if you use the current then not sure what to suggest

You know what would be great? While the grid is down perhaps they can fix the failed transactions. Everyday I login to someone who is angry because they bought something from me and did not receive it in their inventory. I don't really understand why this happens but it's just getting old. Other than that I really have no complaints. I just hope everything gets worked out and starts to works again. It sucks the Lindens have to dedicate their Friday night to this ;)

Ok you guys in America, do these sub-contract people of Lindens in these sorts of industries work 24/7?
Lindens I see work all hours and days to fix problems they can control and tell us progress, so what happens at this sub-contract firm, are we stuck untill they come into work 9am Monday?

In the past, these kinds of bigger issues coming up on the weekend have found a way to resolve themselves Monday morning Pacific time ... could be a coincidence ....

Friday night, hmm would say that's paticullarly problematic, except that we have had nothing but problems for near a month. A year ago, we were alerted to being hacked, but the asset servers that had our financial records were secure though we had to change our passwords. For those who been around awhile, griefers trying to bring down SL were widely known and I have no reason to believe they just quit. So yeah, could be the down-grade oops up-grade, or could we be hacked?

Now the asset servers are on the fritz on a semi-consistent rate. I feel as a community we need to respond to the constant interuptions, a Boston tea party of sorts. We get no refunds, nothing for our troubles but the continued message all clear, fixed, sign the new TOS, and pay your dues or leave.

As a content provider this is a slap in the face. We have much invested in sl and the take it or leave it is not acceptable IMO. I won't pretend to know what the problem is but sure feels like we are lab rats and someone or group wants to see how we re-act.

Maybe if thousands of AR are submitted on the Lindens themselves might be one way to send a message to get their act together (it sure feels like abuse to me). I am sure there are other idea's to send a message either way to acquiesce by doing nothing is weak and guarantee's being treated as such, IMO.

Yeah this would really be helpful.

NOT

Sorry Ray, nothing personal, but why would flooding the system which exists for ABUSE REPORTS help here? All it would do is clog up something already at breaking point.

I'm with you on feeling aggrieved, but this sort of thing is not the way forward. I've very often been the person who has to deal with "Angry Customer With Rights" - and you are not going to get to the person who is in charge of any decisions business or technology related you're just going to make someone on frontline have a hard time.

Is it their fault we're fed up? No.

Perhaps it would be more fitting to write to the newly appointed CEO or to organise a petition to the guy with his hands on the reins (I don't envy him).

***To peeps saying about Friday night ...

Breakages can occur any time - and never wanted by the company concerned - saw people in world complaining that "Lindens have it in for us" and "Lindens want us to suffer" and they weren't even joking they seemed to think there was some sort of punishment being meted out.

Bizarre. Yeah, all companies want to lose customers and money cos of borks.

Sorry to rant but I really don't understand the attitude that this sort of comment springs from.

If, as it appears, the problem is external to Second Life, then surely we can't blame Linden Lab totally for the problem?

If someone from the water company is outside digging a hole in the road with a JCB that swings round and pulls down your telephone cable, you don't blame the telephone company for your loss of service, do you? You blame the idiot in the JCB for doing it, and whilst perhaps the fact that nobody can get round to replace your cable until tomorrow, frustrating as it may be, isn't necessarily their fault either.

If only! A power cut that took down the whole town affected us at work once, people were calling the helpdesk and complaining their computer wouldn't power on, we'd point out that the whole town was down, the lights in their office wouldn't power on either and then they'd ask us what we were doing to fix it.

Which goes to show what I always say, "Customer" is another word for unreasonable most of the time.

I think that's part of the problem - we have two distinct user communities in SL.

The first are the content creators who build stuff to sell, so any 'downtime' is potentially money lost, or development time lost. When you factor real money (and remember some people make hundreds, thousands of dollars a month out of this place) then yes, it's frustrating. For those whose sole income is based on SL, even more so.

The second are the users, who come here to socialise and have fun. For them, downtime is frustrating, but they aren't losing anything really because there are other ways to communicate with your real friends - messengers, skype etc - if they are really that good a friend. Failing that, fire up the xbox or wii or whatever and play some other game, or go down the bar or watch tv or whatever.

What always makes me chuckle is some of the loudest complainers when there's downtime are those who contribute little to nothing (except perhaps a bit of lag) to the overall SL experience, and many are on free basic accounts paying nothing ... so why complain about not having access to something you don't pay for in the first place?

Oh, and it's been about 2 hours now since the shutdown message... "we'll keep you posted" clearly means something different at LL than it does in the rest of the world. An update would be nice even if it's just "we're still working on it", to know that Teeple hasn't just fallen asleep at the keyboard and forgotten to hit the "Enable Logins" button on the BMTRE console.

You have a good point there.

I think one thing people should keep in mind about SL is the same thing people learned in the crash of 2000 with the Internet.

"don't put all your eggs in 1 basket"

People get a good thing going, but tend to rely on it too much.

When it comes to the Interweb, nothing lasts forever

I don't think there is any Big Linden pulling strings, or making decisions. And I don't think there is any management, good or bad. And I think that's the source of most of the problems right there.

i tryed to bring this up at the H4 office hours, but there only held in a non linden owned mature private sim. realy dont like the idea of trying to to debuggung buisness in a porn sim. so gave up.

I've been to the Havoc4 office hours two or three times, and I have to say I didn't see any porn going on. I think you may be confused, or perhaps misinformed. Mature != porn.

kk,
there could be problems existing outside sl thats not ther fault true but asset servers problems as mentioned have been going on quite a whle not because of a storm .

There is a beta test grid. Ostensibly to test for new upgrades with volunteers to elicit and discover issues before the main grid is subjected to the updates.

24/7 not realistic no-one has suggested different.

for two near 2 years Wednesday morning were slated for updates to the grid.

AR too harsh, maybe so, which is why I sugested there may be a better idea, possibly wearing a mask :-)

rudy2zday my partner believes my recent interest in the (RA) forums is getting me edgy and shes right.

I came into sl because I love to build, to create and its why I have stayed. I spent most my first year attending classes in sl learning to do what I do and the only time for the forums were spent in the script, animation, building forums if at all.

There are enough that would answer questions so I need not continue to come hare as often and will go back to what I love to do inworld. My sincerest apologies to those that find my frustration sharp, it is but I will not trouble the forums with my diss-satifaction (much, lol) and hopefully I can vent by making some new products lol.

Being of the era of campus riots, protest marches and boycotts, I like the idea. I was actually tossing this around in my mind today trying to figure out what would get LLs attention. As with the world, money (or lindens) seem to talk.

I decided my personal protest would be to not purchase another item in SL until this mess gets straightened out. Then I realized that would initially hurt my fellow residents and that wasn't my intent.

Still thinking this through...but like the idea of a protest/sit in/boycott, etc. *grins*

These people are working on a weekend so i can have fun. I like that work ethic, I want to encourage it.

They are working on a weekend because thats what they get paid to do. And as someone helping make those paychecks a reality for them, I expect no less.

actually there was a revolt in 03.... the following from a old New World Notes...

August 12, 2003

TAX REVOLT IN AMERICANA!

In late July, a cadre of outraged Lifers began agitating against the Linden tax system, which they see as unjustly penalizing ambitious builders, who contribute so much value to the world. By August 2nd, their cause had broken out into open protest. The first blow was leveled on Americana, the user-driven project to recreate famous US icons in a city space. Dissent appropriately took a very American form: the project's Washington monument had been replaced by a giant tower of tea crates; the baseball stadium rendered unusable by similar stacks; the Route 66 gas station set ablaze by an insurrectionist midget shooting off seditious fireworks. Crates and signs were festooned everywhere -- there, and throughout the world. Contacted by New World Notes, Fleabite Beach -- the iconoclastic kitty who leads this revolt -- here pleads their case to the general public:
