After dowloading your spreadsheet to your computer;

Tyupe the wordDATE in cell J1

Paste this formula into cell J2

=DATE(VALUE(LEFT($F2,4)), VALUE(MID($F2,6,2)), VALUE(MID($F2,9,2)))

Copy that formula down to the end of your data.

Down below your data (or on a different sheet) insert a PivotChart using the PivotTable and PivotChart Wizard.

Click Next and select your data range including the headers at row 1. So you will have A1 through J??? selected.

Click Next and Finish.

Now drag Credit from the dialog box into the big center box of the chart (Where it says Drop Data Items Here.)

In the upper left, Change Count of Credit to Sum of Credit by double-clciking it and selecting Sum instead of Count.

Drag DATE from the dialog box to the bottom of the chart where it says Drop More Category Fields Here.

You daily sales chart should have just magically appeared on a new sheet. You are done.

Nice try, Lin, but he needs a pivot chart. I didn't know it off the top of my head but I would have figured it out by... reading the help.

Darn, you're right...if he's working from the downloaded transactions sheet.

I fooled around with the Pivot Table wizard. It's not very intuitive, unless you want to open and read the Help files.
But here's a way to bypass it.

1. Download the Transactions sheet. Open it in Excel.
2. Select ONLY the Credits column. Hit CTRL+C
3. Make a new worksheet.
4. Place your cursor in Cell B1. Hit CTRL+V to paste the column from the Transactions sheet.
5. Repeat the above for the Time column, pasting it into Column A of your new workbook.

Now go back and follow the steps in my previous post.

[NOTE: If you have lots of sales per day, and returns, you'll want to add some refinements like totting up the sales/returns for a given day and putting the total into another column, or another worksheet]

You have to highlight the data that you want to chart.

If your square is blank then you didn't select any data to chart.

A month only has 31 days, at A1 put a 1 then down the page number cells until you get to the number of days you want to chart.

In the cell next to the day, put in the amount of the sale.

When it is all filled out Highlight both columns. Select Chart Wizard and follow the instructions to get the type of chart you want.

"CX" (Excel and MS-Access Programer)
I hadn't done anything like this in at least 5 years (and was never proficient) but when I saw your post, CX, it suddenly occurred to me to try out my new Open Office spreadsheet program. I did just what you said and it was almost too easy. Although I did have to figure out for myself to check the "First column as label" box in step two. So thanks. And Gary, if you're still here maybe this is the help you were hoping for. edited: Oh no I see the problem is getting all the data for each day added up.

I had a hydroponic tomato garden last year! No kidding. Little science experiment with my son. It worked great! Very interesting project.

Down here hydroponics get SERIOUS attention- and not the nice kind... There must be a bust every other week where FPL found there was an uncharacteristic power drain :) Damn crazy Miamians...

Thank you Cheree.

Wow, 101 replies of utter drivel before we finally get an an answer to such a simple question. Kids these days.

Well for my own contribution to the "drivelege" I applaud- I applaud me and all the other people that took the time out of our precious lives where we could have been breathing with out a single thought of ungrateful beggar wretches that are not worth our spit let alone our attempts at help-

Cheree is obviously a saint incarnate and realized that your utter lack of raison d'etre is irrelevant because others would benefit from her/he having provided such an in-depth answer

Sadly, the world is peopled with useless wastes of space - and the rest of us must go about our humble, mundane lives only to stand in the shadow of such greatness as yourself - we are so utterly grateful that you took time from your busy life to grace us with your presence and inestimable grandeur- if it were not for you none of us would have had the opportunity to expand our knowledge of Excel- and for that, Sir, I most humbly bow and thank you -

If it was such a simple question, why didn't YOU know the answer?

While Cheree's answer was obviously the best, there were several people who attempted to help and you were just as dismissive and rude to them as you were to those who were playing in the thread...how likely do you think it is that those people will ever be interested in trying to help you again in the future, even if they're the ones with the 'best' answer then?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Just goes to show that "no good deed goes unpunished".

To the OP. Amara and others tried many times to help you. You provided little information except to bitch about people trying to help you. You really owe alot of people here an apology.

It will never happen love :)- and I did get to wear my horns and tail :) Besides- all nonsense aside- many will benefit from this information - there is absolutely no chance in hell- if u will pardon ;) - that the OP will ever get a clue- he had his fun teasing and playing and the rest of us got to expand our Excel knowledge.

And now back to our previously scheduled mayhem...

Gary either stop complaining about people responding to your trolling or grow a sense of humor. Someone as aggro as you should be behind a gun in some dumb backward "kill everyone" country, not a keyboard :P
I could have answered your question if I'd got in earlier, but stuff you, you can learn the long & hard way most unsocial animals have to.

It could have been even shorter if you weren't so f***ing lazy that you couldn't figure out what an average 10 year old can in about 15 minutes.

Please Damien, why so conciliatory? Why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel!

Wow, I gave what I considered to be an extremely elegant solution to the original problem, only to now find out that I am only as smart as an average 10 year old. ***sigh***

On the positive side, our future looks good with such bright kids coming along to take control of it. I can only hope that they end up having better manners than we do.

I am so sorry Cheree - my post was not intended as any slight at all on YOU and I really hope that you realised as such! Your solution was not only extremely elegant, it was communicated clearly and explicitly in something other than grunts, "whatevers" and "can I get back to my Wii yet?"

I saw the hydroponics plants growing in The Land Pavilion at Epcot - loved it. And I had a friend many years ago that was doing ohhh....one meter gardening or something (meant for city apt. balconies or those with little land). Personally I think it's the way to go. ;)
