When you're done sorting Excel out, people, I have a major PowerPoint presentation that needs putting together. It must have all manner of fancy graphics, whooshing noises to accompany same, and frankly, I can't be arsed doing it myself. Someone here do it, please, and don't let me hear any complaints. Deadline is midnight SLT, so get cracking. And don't expect me to give any details, either. Some help forum this is.

I contacted Gary in-world and asked to take a look at his worksheet. We figured out the issue he was having with the Date column:

And Wildefire wins the interweb's Post of the Day.

Brilliant.

Do you do PowerPoint presentations for ungrateful so-and-so's too?

Ann- you and Cheery are up for canonization- I have packed my beaten up angel wings and halo and moved to the dark side- Damien (knock knock.. let me in please- I am feeling impish).

Come on dear, let's get out of this thread. ;) It's better on the dark side.

Hey, I'm sympathetic. When I was single and totalled the date column, it kept coming up zero.

Can't say I appreciate your attitude, fella. Standard presentation? I want bells and whistles, damn it!

I just get a blank square

You have to highlight the data that you want to chart.

If your square is blank then you didn't select any data to chart.

A month only has 31 days, at A1 put a 1 then down the page number cells until you get to the number of days you want to chart.

In the cell next to the day, put in the amount of the sale.

When it is all filled out Highlight both columns. Select Chart Wizard and follow the instructions to get the type of chart you want.

zomg, pivot tables...I think someone made me do one of those once. :(

We're not talking about a huge amount of data here, though, especially if the OP tends to it every day or two, so I see no reason why the more basic approach wouldn't work. *shrug*

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I did mine for the last month and had over 900 sales. That is an average of 30 sales per day. Those need to be summed together per day. The easiest way to do that is to use either a PivotTable or a PivotChart. In this case, a PivotChart is called for. Once you get used to using these tools they are easy. It took me about two minutes to create the chart that the OP wants.

I dare say, by the way, that this is likely to be the most read thread ever in the history of the Aethernet with the title "Excel sales spreadsheet".

Only when an OP gets pissy does the true brilliance (and twisted sense of humor) of the RA forum regulars shine through.

No wonder I love it here! :)

GG (must stand for Grumpy Guy).

Pay attention.

1. Enter "DATE" in cell A1.
2. Enter "SALES" in cell A2
3. Enter the first day of the month in cell B1, under DATE
4. Highlight that cell
5. Drag the handle at the lower right corner of the cell downward. The column will auto-populate with succeeding dates. Stop at the last day of the month

6. Enter sales for each day in the SALES column.
7. Place cursor in the cell under the last entry in SALES. Click the Summation symbol (the capital Greek letter Sigma, looks like a funny E). Hit Return.

That's the data entry part. You can do it with an exported transaction history if you want.

Now the chart.

1. Highlight all the entries and the column headers by dragging the mouse over them. (Note: Don't select the Totals row. Stop at the last day of the month)
2. In the top menu row, select Insert/Chart
3. The first chart choice will probably be Column. Stick with that.
4. Hit NEXT three times, then FINISH.

You are done.

Nice try, Lin, but he needs a pivot chart. I didn't know it off the top of my head but I would have figured it out by... reading the help.
