I can only respond to what you write, Kitty. If you don't want your words to be taken as they are written, then write words that you do want to be taken as they are written.
Traffic bots did have LL's "blessing". You may not know or accept it, but those of us who actually asked them, know it.
I think that covers your post.

Innula I'm sure you're right from the legal position... there was an instance locally that got a bit of press attention (names changed). Big store 'Harrowbins', gives little store 'arrowbins' grief and they weren't even selling similar stuff. Agreed its a play on words and the similarity is there, piggy back name style. However big corporate giant takes on the little guy. Big guy always wins. My point is this...market forces dictate success. If Phil's business is sound, perhaps he doesn't need to worry about the little fella trying to eke out a basic living at the far end of the scale. As someone said a while back, customers are quite savvy and buy according to their pocket, or because they know the name (creator) and they like their stuff. There's a big market place in SL. Protect your interests by all means, but someone mentioned that Phil's stance here could perhaps 'damage' his business reputation more than Floyd could achieve and my main point was that any publicity is good publicity. Morality doesn't really come into it.
I am not replying to Sling's comment, because I can't get a handle on her statements.

From: Fox Marchant ... my main point was that any publicity is good publicity. Morality doesn't really come into it. That's true. I'd already decided that any publicity about Prim Savers not being associated with PrimSavers would only lead people to have a look at PrimSavers

From: Treasure Ballinger K-I-T-C-H-E-N. Kitchen, ok, it's spelled, kitchen. If you're not sure, check Prim Savers for proper spelling...
(Yeah I know, just call me Pep) Noticed it was that ALT's very 1st post?....what's the betting it was actually that guy's SL partner or one of his staff. She mentioned traffic in her post....which kind of implies she one of those that sits on the parcel 24/7 accumulating traffic points under the guise of being a staff member or owner's partner. I saw the Furniture and to be honest i wasn't overly impressed regarding the quality, it's no better or no worst, then most of the companies that supply modern looking furniture. However I'm not a connoisseur of Modern furniture....as my preference are Antiques and old period Furniture.....most (not all) Modern furniture look like coloured boxes to me....not very appetising, so I profess not to be an expert when evaluating Modern Furniture or it's quality as its stuff i would never buy!

From: Sling Trebuchet I think that you will find that where I comment on something that Phil posts, it is completely confined to countering his arguments attempting to justify Search gaming. Apart from occasionally commenting on the streams of abuse that he spouts at times, I have never made any negative comment on his products or anything not related to Search gaming. If I were chasing and harassing him, I would be pouncing on his every post. You will find threads in which both he and I are posting on other topics with not the slightest hint of friction. You will find at least one thread in which I posted a helpful answer to a query by Phil. Something to do with land as I remember.
This Topic was about the use of a Company name...and you very quickly turned the thread into ethics and business practices and linking it to an earlier thread. It serves no purpose! You're just stirring up personal arguments or vendettas... as bystanders we end up diverting away from the subject matter. We know where Phil stands on gaming of Search.....does it really need to be regurgitated again and again? There's a small pack of Wolves within these RA Forums....as soon as a Topic is opened that even mildly connects to Search.....you all descend from the hilltops! This topic doesn't even have anything to do with the gaming of Search, it's just the fact who opened the thread that matters to you all. It's really a sad state of affairs.

From: Anya Ristow Ten. TEN. 10. Did you think I made the number up? There are 6 in his store and 4 in his castle, on the same parcel. If they are registered as required, its not illegal against the current Policy. Read Jack's final Blog and his judgement of Bots & Camping. It's up to LL to make the next step....strip out Bot traffic units from Parcel traffic. As far as Phil or anyone else using Registered Models (Bots or Avatars)....they're not breaking the new rules.

He sounds like a genuine person and his apology for the shelves sounded genuine, but those shelves shouldn't have been there in the first place - they weren't a mistake - they were too specific to have been a mistake.
Anyway, what is, is. We'll see if LL chooses to do anything about it.
12 instances of unwittingly making an absent minded mistake? i wonder what the odds are in making the same mistake 12 times, knowing it's the same name as an existing SL company? As of yesterday.(might be changed now) i saw these 2 companies Prim Savers - Low Prim Furniture PrimSavers - Low Prim Furniture Makes you want to say ....hmmmmh!

From: Phil Deakins Kitty: Rene didn't even suggest that LL were "actively cheering" traffic bots, so your examples are meaningless.
However, they may have been because there was a good reason for LL to cheer them. but we just don't know. Well LL might not have cheered for BOTs, but they certainly benefited from the inflated login numbers which they could use in their Press releases or interviews or SL related articles. At the time it served their purpose! I maintain, if LL really wanted to clear up all the Bots on the Grid....they could have. 10 mths in and there are still a few thousand unregistered Bots around the Grid. It's there to be seen in Places Search.

From: Sling Trebuchet What Rene wrote was ".....gaming traffic with Bots had LL's blessing!....."
The logic by which he comes to that conclusion woould mean that evicting a tenant without refund or reselling someone else's freebie had LL's blessing. Ad-farms would also have had LL's blessing.
" Well yours & Kitty's logic is daft anyways! LL benefited with Bot Login numbers just at the time they were experiencing huge growth.....it served them well to brag how popular SL was becoming, even it did include an element of inflated numbers. It's much like LL's Quarterly Economic Reviews.....if you know what to look for, you can pretty much dismantle most of the hype e.g those misleading PMLF figures LL does not benefit from Estate-owners rolling over their Residents nor AdFarms littering the landscape...in fact it provides negative PR for the platform. As we all know already, LL doesn't like getting involved in Resident-to-Resident disputes......which could end up the same way with Phil's OP complaint.

From: Floyd Mistwalker Thank you kindly. Of course this is the only typo in SL It's probably not the only typo in SL; but if one is selling something one should know how to spell it. If I wanted to buy a kitchen, and searched for it (low prim kitchen) Prim Savers would come up but you wouldn't. So yeah that kind of thing is important when trying to establish a customer base, I would think.

This thread is all about ethics and business practices. I'm not even considering the ethics or business practices of naming his company almost exactly the same......i'm looking at it from a trading point of view. As things stand, it will damage both companies one way or another. Like a poster previously mentioned....the prospect of some overzealous consumer AR'ing either of the creators (most likely Floyd as he's new) for copybotting when viewing the product under EDIT mode and seeing the "Prim Savers/ PrimSavers" name. It's just unnecessary hassle having to explain to LL, that there are 2 companies with similar names. That's just one example of wasted admin time! .....and i will keep saying the below. In the case of this thread, the What is gobsmacking in the light of the Who's clear statement on right and wrong only a few hours previously. The Who could post on any other topic and there wouldn't the slightest sign of what you describe as wolfish behaviour. The Who posting that What is the near-equivalent of me posting in praise of a Picks Buying system.

You disrupted this thread, you disrupted the "About Ethics" thread......you disrupted "The most honest in my Field" thread......and so it goes on with you! Same ol' ...same ol' You think there can be a discussion about ethics without mentioning any case studies? Let's talk about ethics without giving any examples of ethical and unethical behaviour? Let's talk about honesty without talking about honesty? The same ol' same ol' is people reacting badly when they are called on their behaviour. The same ol' same ol' is people trying to defend the indefensible by going into denial and performing semantic dances. What's new for RA in this thread is the utterly fantastic demand that someone "do the right thing", when the person doing the asking has consistently ridiculed the idea of "doing the right thing" for years.
