Define "Smart". There are many interpretations. What exactly to you mean by "Smart"?

Even with a clear definition of the particular meaning applied, tere may be many different smart things to do depending on the goals, the resources and the environment.

Figured you would need a definition. Not going to supply one.

What is a Smart Business Plan.

Keep it simple.

To make it easier I did set up a case for you:

For *one* interpretation of Smart:
.....and keeping it really, really, really, really simple

Assess your own skills.
Research market
Get advice
Get product. Test it to destruction.
Work on presentation, then work on presentation
Budget
Use every conceivable measure to get visibility. Getting ranked high in Search is a very cost-effective measure with proven results. Forget about ethics. Just stay within the letter of the law. If the law is unclear, test it. Push, push, push the envelope. Get a lawyer. Where there is doubt, a contract is always interpreted against the the interests of the party that wrote it.
Work on customer satisfaction.
Research, analyse.
Improve the product.
Watch the competition. Protect your market share.

Bingo on this one:

Research Market.

Keeping it simple....think you are way off base on the "every conceivable measure" concept. But customers and not merchants will determine if one's efforts are Smart or not.

You left some aspects such as Image and Reputation out. Pretty important aspects - even in SL.

LOL. Sling did her best to derail this thread earlier. The thread has run its course so she can happily derail it now.

Earlier I said that I'd come across a parcel in a sim that copied & pasted my main parcel's full name and description. I IMed the owner and today I got a reply. She didn't do it - it was a tenant who did it - and she said she would change it. So that's good.

Congrats!

I had that done to me about a year ago by some unimaginative person.....nope his name wasn't Floyd! I let the SL Better Business Bureau handle it on my behalf.....in the end the Plonker caved in and at least removed my company name (he did keep my exact keywords though, which he's entitled to)

Yes, I told her that - it's only my business name that needs removing - the rest is just words, and fair game.

"every conceivable measure" was related to what I prefaced the list with - *One* interpretation of Smart.
It should be read in the context of the entire paragraph - which was clearly weighjted in favour of an interpretation of Smart as in Smart Aleck.
It should also be clear from history that what was in the paragraph would not be my own approach.

I was keeping it really, really, really....simple .......as suggested.

Image and Reputation can be assumed under combinations of :
Test it to destruction.
Work on presentation, then work on presentation
Work on customer satisfaction.
Improve the product.

Sling, if the question in the other thread did escape your attention:

From: Marcel Flatley
Okay lets try to look at this another way:

Tomorrow I start a new business, this time it is dance animations. Amazing good ones as I do have Motion Capture stuff and all. Last few weeks I have been busy creating dances, tomorrow I will open up. 25 dances to start with. The company name is Flatley's Magnificent Moves.

Now tell me, where do I start, and what is allowed/disallowed in your opinions?

Think of the following: my target audience will probably either search for dances, or dance animations. My sales boxes can be named anything, and will all have "Show in search" ticked. We do have (initially) the following thigns to work with, regarding my search ranking:
- Parcel name
- Parcel Description
- 25 times item name and description.
Those make up my html page.

Being pretty ignorant about search, I do the following:

Parcel name = Flatley's Magnificent Moves.
Parcel description: The finest couple dances, created with Motion Capture. The best dances for the best prices!
Item 1 name -description: Tango - By Flatley's Magnificent Moves
Item 2 name - description: Walz - By Flatley's Magnificent Moves
etc.....

Now the next few days I do some studying, as I cannot find myself on the first 20 pages of search all. Yet place 211 is the place I am "entitled to" with this html page.

Really, I appreciate your comments on this set up. We do not talk about traffic/picks/keyword stuffing yet. But... everything we change from now on is part of optimizing.

I understand the Smart Aleck. :) And hard to miss history!

Image and Reputation has to do with some other aspects, too. I assume I don't have to spell all those out. A few aspects are being tossed about in this thread.

I just love peppermint BreathSavers, and is it just me, or does the "PrimSavers" logo look a lot like the "LifeSavers" logo?

That's about as original as the business name.

Well done :)

So what we have is someone who is happy to use another person's business name and to use another business's well-known logo (LifeSavers). It's good to know that originality is alive and well in SL :D
