Just spoke AGAIN with LL and they said they can't control what a resident is saying in a witch hunt, and suggested to mute him and file an abuse report

Nah, not according to certain people here. It's all about the "churn rate", something like 3% retention PROVES that people don't know or care to know about the scruples of those in business. They are looking for what they want, and don't care how they found it. (that's not my argument, btw) That's because you know it makes sense! _____________________

When someone says that they learned something recently, it means anything from a couple of days ago to weeks ago. It doesn't mean a few hours ago. What you wrote sounded like you discovered it a few days ago or more, so what you posted sounded like you were continuing to sell items that you knew were stolen. And that wasn't difficult to believe since we know that you stole my tradename, which you deny, and you stole Wrigley's logo, which you admit.

You know, Floyd....you are digging your hole deeper and deeper. Should have bowed out gracefully many pages ago. Kind of hard to think at this point, that even those who reserved judgment on your intentions.....are still fooled.

Just spoke AGAIN with LL and they said they can't control what a resident is saying in a witch hunt, and suggested to mute him and file an abuse report ![]() There's no witch hunt at all. You are using my long-established tradename, you were selling stolen goods, you stole Wrigley's logo. It's good that people examine your dealings. _____________________

That's because you know it makes sense! Well, then, why would anyone care if Floyd uses Phil's name? If business ethics and scruples don't matter, then what difference does it make to the consumers? Sauce for the goose, like yo. <.< |

Well, then, why would anyone care if Floyd uses Phil's name? If business ethics and scruples don't matter, then what difference does it make to the consumers? Sauce for the goose, like yo. <.< That's why Floyd is prepared to use the name, not many potential consumers will know about all this.....or in the future. Doesn't mean it's correct....but if you're playing the percentages.....well what can I say!....... The only downside is if one gets an overzealous consumer AR'ing either of them, thinking a product might be copybotted. Will be a waste of time & inconvenience to both of them! If i was in Floyd's position and i was serious about my business.....at this very early stage of the game, I'd make the necessary adjustments....that's if I'm in it for the long haul. I would also change the logo and try and be a bit more original. This argument that it takes so long to redo & replace 200 textures doesn't fly.....when he's going to have spend some time replacing those dodgy" purchased animations/scripts with legit ones (with licenses) and to re-position those in each piece of furniture. Reading all of this thread....i get just get the feeling Floyd is being pig-headed for pig-headed sake....and doesn't want to be pushed around and will resist any notion of doing the sensible thing. Registering a RL company name, hastily cobbling together a "primsaver.com" website are all part of the bigger game he's playing...... That's my opinion for what it's worth. Whether it helps him to become successful in SL remains to be seen. At first glance, the "bull in a China shop" routine is not a great strategy to kick start his Merchant career........but heh...we're all different! . _____________________

just as an aside..
when I see prim savers (either version) I think two things.. 1. that the name was "inspired" by specsavers - which to me is the lowest of low of the optometry chains here 2. that specsavers are cheap and "cheerful" with sloppy business processes and poor service. (I made the mistake once of buying some specs from them and can honestly say that I'll never do that again. ) so prim savers to me = cheap and probably anything else is better. It might sound harsh but this isn't being nasty, this is truly how I see the name. So it does amuse me to see the two of you doing the one upmanship thing against each other over a name I think is slightly sullied from the start. _____________________

I think neither have covered themselves in glory with this thread. Well, to be honest...I didn't pay attention to much else going on in the thread....just watched: 1) someone explain how they ended up with the same name. 2) how they covered their ass with some smooth schmoozing 3) how they covered their ass again, by explaining that Prim Savers on their items was a mistake.....however still preaching that PrimSavers is an entirely different name. 4) how they put so much effort into building a business, yet forgot to do a basic search for their own business category. 5) how they had an opportunity to clean it all up....and didn't....probably thinking that SL shoppers are completely clueless and complete idiots. 6) how they said it was not intentional....yet took all the necessary steps to seal the deal, during the hours this thread was running. 7) how they came back in, after saying that they were no longer going to respond, in order to promote their new web site ![]() 9) how they covered their ass again on product problems 10) how they are now issuing ARs against the person they ripped off, and implying that they are buddying up with the people who can effect an outcome. Give me a break. There are days when Phil hits about 90% on my Infuriation Scale.....but never makes it to 100%.....and have never seen anything as calculated as this....from anyone....not even close. |

I don't see your point. Well you said "Specsavers" in RL ...you associate with lowest of low of the optometry chains .....so basically quality of product & service are low. What I'm implying is that SL is a worldwide platform....and most residents won't really know about "Specsavers" or it's related quality outside the half dozen countries that have Specsavers stores located there. (i.e Benelux countries, Scandinavia, Australia/NZ & UK) i.e A lot of SL residents can't make that same association like you. In fact i didn't even know despite living in UK as i don't wear glasses! . _____________________

I don't know of them, never heard of them but I do see the point she's trying to make, it's an association she has in her mind about the name. Must be like, a super discount eyeglass place that does shoddy work? So it's a mental association that she has, is all, but those of us who don't know what that is, it wouldn't particularly affect us like that. _____________________

*snip for brevity* Phil's is doing ok - he's getting his digs in and trying to undermine Floyd (?). Phil can't complain, he's getting lots of lovely free publicity from it. 300+ posts and his shop is being mentioned time and time again as people rally round, and of course there's the logo in his signature... When I started my first shop 3 years ago I thoroughly searched to make sure my proposed name wasn't being used - and it wasn't. Within a few months of me starting up lo and behold there were a couple of other galleries using the name - with slight derivations (usually one additional word at the end). I also had one of the bigger outfits inworld take *ahem* "inspiration" from one of my pieces and took the design, the script functionality and the name and made it their own.. apart from going to a rl lawyer over the second the rest didn't bother me. It's just the way it is. I just think that this whole thread smacked of opportunistic marketing on Phil's part. People do what they think they need to when trying to raise their profile. I may be wrong of course and apologies to Phil if I have misconstrued this but on the back of the other thread where he was trumpeting nice words someone else had said about him both of them together to me smack of publicity seeking. Like everything else he does, if it works for him then good luck to him. Call me cynic of course. _____________________

The name "primsavers",makes perfect sense to me in it's SL context. I own several of Phil's items and they are exactly that. Low prim items, but still good quality. A lot of terms used in SL are going to be in a different conext than in RL, and I try to keep that in mind. |

I don't see how you managed to get to everyone has the same opinion as me when I said.. "when I see prim savers (either version) I think two things.." Well, looking at the bigger picture.....in terms of being damaging in Marketing terms for their SL businesses......i think the negativity towards either business name is going to be very minimal. So neither business owner should necessarily worry that their company name might be associated to low quality products. _____________________

That's fair enough...i must have misread & misinterpreted your post! I was looking at it from a "whole" perspective....i.e the entire consumer base. I think choosing a company name even for SL is still kinda of important though. I've seen some real naff names - lol (but if the products are good, I guess it don't matter) . _____________________
