So how do you tell how much bandwidth something uses with SL?? o-O I use Metabolt on my laptop. It's text-based and has a lot of nice features including IM, chat, teleport, objects, friends, etc. The only major bug in it is the inventory list which is borked but getting better. (o-o) What would be really cool is something I could use on my Smartphone to IM into SL. { Note: Various emoticons provided in support of Miss Sideways ^-^

well, it would do except in this case you need to append a question mark (also, users with "show images" checked will get a broken image, so it's not such a great workaround)

Day Oh, It worked far better on an iffy connection than the others but some feedback:-
If you have chat windows open and close the main window, it throws exceptions
Please can we have more information during logon other than just "please wait". I always like to know what stage something is at, it's far easier to understand.
What's the time limit on messages getting through? What I have as a problem is that these messengers show me online, and sending a message but if i've lost signal, that doesn't update at all or not for a very very long time. If i've lost communications i'd like to know but SLeek drops at the slightest problem which annoying.
Just wondered? Otherwise, great thanks!

Release 2
09-12-2008 12:00
I didn't do everything I wanted yet but I put up a second release for download http://code.google.com/p/trim/downloads/listStuff: + Now using the newer, OpenMetaverse, library + Fixed group IM's, though there's no way to *start* a group IM yet + I had a run-in with the problem with closing IM windows on logout, let me know if it's fixed? + Added a login URI box so you can log in to another grid And I cleaned up the svn, sorry I just committed the whole folder last time If it runs under Mono, that's awesome! I didn't expect it, but now I'm glad I didn't decide to try to use user32.dll to make the windows flash when you get a new message... But I think it needs to give some sort of notification, so I think I'll go with changing the icon color... I dunno! How does the Mono stuff go down? Did you have to compile it, or does it just run the provided executable?

On the Mac, the first version ran with the provided executable from Terminal.app, this one has to be run from an X11 xterm. I get some errors because I don't have libgtk installed, but it runs. cheers, Surty

The executables (new and old version) are running in my Ubuntu 8.04 without problems so far. =)

This is possibly the single greatest thing I have ever seen. Do you know what this means?
I CAN DO FIVE THINGS AT ONCE NOW INSTEAD OF JUST THREE!!!!!!!
I was wondering about the security of it of course... should I be worried?
I'm new to third party things like this... don't hurt me!

It starts to build the user list then just closes, no errors just disappears.

I guess I'll try fixing the group IM implementation in the old library and switching back to that Zynthar I use the libsecondlife 100% of my time inworld, I guarantee it's more secure than the official viewer

From: Sylvester Dragonash bump That kinds says it all. Among the forums, it's been pretty much fizzleware. (=_=) On the other hand... I'm still using Day Oh's Trim frequently. It's helped me stay in touch with a UK friend that recently has had less time to go inworld and out time zones don't help all that much either. So, it's been nice to be able to sneak in while on a break and not blatantly hog my workplace's bandwidth. (^_^)y

From: Day Oh I didn't do everything I wanted yet but I put up a second release for download ...But why doesn't any of the text-based clients, even one as nice as yours, support logging conversations? Because missing that is really what keeps me running a full client on an Eee PC... -_-

Nice, unfortunately it won't work over the local firewall any more than the full client will... and I'm not going to try and install .NET on my virtual colo.
*sigh*
Any protocol that's too complex to implement easily in assembly language, Basic, C, etc... is too bloody complex. Period.

Posted a new version on the downloads page: http://code.google.com/p/trim/downloads/list1. Icon now flashes when you receive a message in a window that isn't active 2. Updated OpenMetaverse to partially address some of the recent security concerns with IP spoofing (note OpenMetaverse/libsecondlife is still vulnerable to some forms of the session hijacking thing, so for now, if a 1337 h4xx0r sends you a link, be mindful) (actual existence of 1337 h4xx0rs not certain)

I'm puzzled by Trim, Day. I downloaded it, unzipped it, ran the exe, logged in, but all I have on screen now is a small window with the words Online and Offline, on seperate lines - nothing else. And I can't do anything with it. What am I missing?
Also, the av that I logged in with it stays as a white cloud.

It gives me practically everything I'm asking for in the OP of this thread. I use it to sneak on during my lunch break at work. (^_^)y

From: Lizz Silverstar Yes, Yes, and Yes! I like many others would love a way to stay in touch with friends in SL via IM's while at work.. But the bandwidth issues prevent that even with SLeek. But a low bandwidth text based client with IM and friend's list capability would be wonderful, and yes would draw a lot of interest. (edit) ps. if you could make it run under windows moble, so it would run on a pocket pc, you could make a fortune too. *laughs* even better, under the Blackberry OS

You should be able to right-click the list and get a menu to add friends From: someone Also, the av that I logged in with it stays as a white cloud. Trim makes no effort to set appearance, also the way I did the login location thing you can choose the region but not the coordinates

That's where I was going wrong - not understanding what it is. I used a brand new alt for it, so no friends list. Ty for the explanation, Day. The Last Location and Home selection covers the lack of sim coordinates.
