I am still considering doing this. I'd be happy to break even and have a little play space for myself and possibly use space for some of the charitable groups in sl. Don't look to break even, seriously, look to make profit and then reinvest it into those charitable groups you talk of because there will be periods when your rentals aren't full for one reason or another and you'll want to give yourself some wiggle room. |

LL have ignored our apeal. . It's Unfortunate your World has Changed, But Unfortunately that is the Potential Outcome when you Buy Land in this fashion. You should have considered it Before you Committed. Oh, BTW re the sale of Manhattan island, the popular Story places the sale price at about $21 worth of trade Goods. What is NOT common knowledge is, the Aboriginals striking the Deal were part of a raiding party from a neighboring region, and Not the tribe that actually owned the land. Therefore, this amounts to the First new York Land swindle, and should rank higher than the Infamous "Sale of the Brooklyn Bridge" Swindle. Angel. |

Does No One read the TOS at all? It's printed in language about as plain as it gets, Linden Lab does NOT get involved in Trade disputes between Players. The banking ban quite clearly suggests otherwise. If it's good enough for them to do it for banking then surely they can implement a code of practice for island sales. Whatever deal you had went out the Door with the Old owner, the new owner Bought a whole Sim and may do with it as he pleases and is under NO obligation to Carry over Subdivision Deals made by the previous owner, and there is no way to Force him to Honor agreements he was never a party to. However the new person who purchased the island is complicit in the scam and ripoff of the existing residents. This needs to be addressed. |

It is simply not clear enough that you are not getting the same thing when you buy Covenant land as you do when you buy mainland. |

Count me in as a satisfied Island "renter" I paid an upfront fee too, but I have a beautiful plot on an island with a nice prim multiplier. My landlord is a dear, the covenant is very light, mainly just be nice and considerate, and I do have the ability to sell my plot. There are good and bad people out there, and even the good ones may not be so good at the time they decide to sell; i.e. kept the money that they get for the island, as they have every right to do. That would be fine, of course, unless the next owner is a bad lot - and then the bad stories come out. |

Apart from the "landlord is a dear" bit, that's the same story that everyone who buys on islands has - right up until the landlord decides not to be a landlord any more, and sells the island. Remember that all those who have have bad luck stories preceded the stories with good ones. There are good and bad people out there, and even the good ones may not be so good at the time they decide to sell; i.e. kept the money that they get for the island, as they have every right to do. That would be fine, of course, unless the next owner is a bad lot - and then the bad stories come out. Yes, Phil I know that. As I always said it's risk vs reward. I prefer where I am to the chaos of the mainland. If my landlord were to run off into the night with my money, C'est la vie. The money I put into SL is disposable, it is no different to me than renting a movie or going to a ball game. You've made it clear that SL is Big Serious Business, and your way is the way we all should play it.I'm a big girl, I can look after myself. Go piss in someone else's Wheaties. I think your camping bots may need an oil change. _____________________

i thought there was a sticky somewhere that explained in detail the difference between what to look for when buying mainland vs estate land.
if someone can post that link, that might raelly help these folks, as well as others who might read this later with same questions. i'd do it myself, but for the life of me i can't find it! i'd like to read it too. |
