YOU have the narrow view Toy: You seem to think not only that "PG" means what YOU see "PG" as, but that anyone else saying that it SHOULD BE UP TO INDIVIDUALS to decide what they want on their parcels is somehow pushing for everything to be YOUR idea of 'Mature".

PG to me: Almost anything except sexual interaction of any kind.

Mature: Any sort of Sexual action.

By Linden Lab's ToS and CS? I'm perfectly in the right - the only thing preventing me from doing as I please in real life is my current living situation ... and most narrow minded gits.

I think people tend to confuse PG with G ratings. I see no problem with nude art on a PG sim . it is just art. I believe the ratings are based on the us film rating system. So I looked up the rating system. Here are the results

G - General Audiences
All ages admitted.

No nudity, no sex, no drugs, minimal violence, and limited use of language that goes beyond polite conversation.

PG - Parental Guidance Suggested
Some material may not be suitable for children.

May contain some language like "damn", "hell" or "ass" and mild violence, or very mild drug references.

There Should not be any children on the grid so I guess we have to use common sense in this case.

Linden Lab's "PG" is closer to a MPAA "G"

I still believe we have to be realistic and face the fact that teh ones we may offend teh most by hanging nudes on our walls are religious groups who are offended by teh human nude - in which case tehy should NOT be on teh grid since they themseves are depictions of human nude bodies - and must be offended by teh sight of themselves.
Also child avatars who by definition MUST be over 18 and so must accept that PG guidelines are decent enough for thm.
I never argued for porn in PG places, simply artistic works that honour the human form. Just as we who create our avatars honour the human form (among others).
What happens if I have a radio on and "I kissed a girl and I liked it" is playing? If other avatars hear that, can that be in offense of PG guidelines?

This is one thing that I sort of wondered as well.

It's not a dilemma that will be easily resolved but it's probably a good thing to think about now and then.

All I tried to do was make peopel think a bit harder about what they think about our world. I didnt want anyone to get their knickers in a twist.

Why does something become more risque when the content is gay? I take your point, I watched a club host in a PG area tell somebody off for swearing the other day whilst Guns n' Roses Axel Rose was swearing his mouth off over the stream, but there is nothing Mature about a kiss, even a gay one. That was such a 'straight' thing to say.

Linden Lab's "PG" is not defined as such and is defined as anything you'd be comfortable doing or showing in front of your grandmother (who I could not give a shit about, crazy as she is at times) or a grade school class (dismissed out of hand simply due to the fact that the main grid is adults only ... and children these days are exposed to far worse things than a nude artwork).

Again: Under their guidelines - my own definition is as good as your definition, sorry - that's the way it is.

Let's not forget that this is also a Virtual (meaning fake or Fantasy) World: One where people are supposed to be able to do a few things that they'd not be able to do in most parts of their home towns: Case in point, I'd love to be able to go nude whenever I could .... My current living situation, not to mention the fragile and 'virgin' eyes of those in this town, prevent this.

Thread Summary...

The world does not agree on what is adult only or acceptable for minors. The US specifically are more conservative it seems than Europe. Therefore people in SL and specifically on the forums are unlikely to reach any consensus.

LL's PG standard has exactly zero real meaning because LL has deliberately kept it vague.

In most countries in the world RL art, even if a naked portrayal, is not considered to be too adult for the eyes of children.

My own personal views?

It's just a body, we all have them and we were all born without clothes. This is obviously something we were not meant to get all upset over and Yes, my view spills over into sex too.
Society (most of them anyway) has an unhealthy attitude towards nakedness and sex generally in my opinion.

Not much else to see here, just another infamous Jig thread that is great at getting people riled up over not much. Not going to solve social problems here for RL or SL *shrugs*. YMMV.

I did. What about my post suggested I wanted "G?" Or that I hadn't read each and every post here....hmmm could it be simply that I disagreed with you?

The sim I live in is mature, I have no problem with social nudity but what I did find offensive was the people nearby who littered their large gardens with prim roadkill corpses in pools of blood. That's not the sort of thing I want to see in SL, even in a mature area.

I find pictures of naked kittens offensive but they keep cluttering up these forums!

However, this statement, along with many others voiced, will also fall on deaf ears.

Your tone, choice of words and overall attitude: Which suggest to me, still, that you have yet to do what you claimed you have done AND that you'd prefer "G" instead of "PG" - I do not, after all, see you going back to define what you believe "PG" to be, nor do I see you presenting any evidence that "PG" means "No Nudity at all, no matter what"

SL's PG sometimes does seem maybe more G rated to me but pg movies
rarely have nudity or blood.
