from the original source of the ratings:
A PG-rated motion picture should be investigated by parents before they let their younger children attend. The PG rating indicates, in the view of the Rating Board, that parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, and parents should make that decision. The more mature themes in some PG-rated motion pictures may call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity and some depictions of violence or brief nudity. But these elements are not deemed so intense as to require that parents be strongly cautioned beyond the suggestion of parental guidance. There is no drug use content in a PG-rated motion picture. So guess what, the forums are PG as is! _____________________

PG according to the MPAA:
Michael: Maybe it was an iguana. Elliot: It was *no* iguana. Michael: Maybe, um - You know how they say there are alligators in the sewers? Gertie: Alligators in the sewers. Mary: All we're trying to say is, maybe you just probably imagined it. It happened... Elliot: I couldn't have imagined it! Michael: Maybe it was a pervert or a deformed kid or something. Gertie: A deformed kid. Michael: [mockingly] Maybe an elf or a leprechaun. Elliot: It was nothing like that, penis-breath! Mary: [laughs in shock] *Elliott!* Sit down. Source: E.T. |

to quote a movie that was rated PG "I do not think that word means what you think it means" (and really, no one cares that RA might get replaced by an idiotic yahoo answers forum? which only Mentors will be allowed to reply to? best of luck with that, and I'll add congratulations for killing content creation fora if they go that way too) Yeah I can't wait to see the answers they give for Content Creation. I don't really care about all of the other stupid crap that LL has bungled over time, but this one seriously gets under my skin. _____________________

(and really, no one cares that RA might get replaced by an idiotic yahoo answers forum? which only Mentors will be allowed to reply to? best of luck with that, and I'll add congratulations for killing content creation fora if they go that way too) It isn't that we don't care. We probably care way too much. But lie after lie after lie from LL has turned most of us into confirmed cynics. We know that short of flying to San Fran and holding the rhinestone codpiece hostage, we aren't likely to get anything but more lies from LL. _____________________

Thanks Keira for attempting to explain my simple and clear observation to those unable to read plain English. I am sorry that you have had to do it at considerable length in my place while I was out disposing of a crate of beer last night. The "community of adults" here apparently includes several who have reading skills that must have peaked at second grade. When these forums are mothballed in the near future I am sure that they will find their place over at SLU which can by no means be called PG.

When these forums are mothballed in the near future I am sure that they will find their place over at SLU which can by no means be called PG. It'll be unfortunate that many of the users with questions won't be able to get to the Mentor Answers site, instead seeing this banner of technical ineptitude: Page Load Error Connection Interrupted The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again. If we migrate to SLU or elsewhere, we'd have to figure out what if any content from the technical forums we can save. (Probably none: LL didn't get permission from posters to take the content outside the service. We've been down this same awful path with the scripting wikis.) It's odd how LL keeps making the same mistake over and over again, completely missing that the value is in the content, not the tool. User-generated content is their main competitive advantage, yet they seem intent on squandering it at every opportunity both on the web and in-world. _____________________

It may well come to that. It'll be unfortunate that many of the users with questions won't be able to get to the Mentor Answers site, instead seeing this banner of technical ineptitude That's WEB-982 at work.)If we migrate to SLU or elsewhere, we'd have to figure out what if any content from the technical forums we can save. User-generated content is their main competitive advantage, yet they seem intent on squandering it at every opportunity both on the web and in-world. actually we could probably grab quite a bit from the content fora given notice, since no one agreed to release rights to forum posts (and they aren't covered by the wiki or mainsite license) although an argument may be made that only users of SL can access it so therefore it falls under the client license, but there are outs there in the form of journalistic/educational archiving. the wiki issue is a bigger mess, and I'm getting to dual licensing all content I provide there as others have started to do. so far I seem to be stuck at CC-BY, but may add a further CC0 license for code used in a substantially larger work if I can figure out how to make that work effectively. _____________________

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again. (That's WEB-982 at work.) Apparently LL doesn't think there's much of a problem. It affects me, on multiple computers and multiple browsers. I can get around it by clearing all cookies for "second life", but that doesn't make it not be a problem. _____________________

The fora isn't going to be the problem. We might not be able to talk any damned sense into SL regarding forum upgrades or this new brilliant answer of theirs; "Mentor Answers" BUT......... I don't see why we can't demand and win the CC fora being archived if it comes down to it. As long as we have that one small concession then we can proceed as always. All CC has ever been is 20+ people total answering questions, names change over time but the knowledge has still been passed on and each generation adds to it. Chosen, myself, Heewee, you Void and many others may not always be here but Dora and the others that are stepping up to bat will take over the reins for those that leave. CC has always been a magical place because of the people, not because of the posts from 4 years ago. I came here and wanted to learn and everyone was glad to help me do just that, because of that, I like many others decided to do the same and pass the knowledge forward. As long as there is an SL, I do not see that changing, no matter what the venue. The wiki is a different matter, but then again, we always have fall backs now because of Osgeld. _____________________

Was there a problem to begin with?
I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of users don't know about it, and if they did, 99.9% of them don't care. /me slinks back to her dungeon. |

Goddamn (Said in with a sense of amazement, not insultingly). You are *completely* missing the point. I don't think they are missing the point, I think they get it completely, they just do not want to admit they were incorrect If someone persists in arguing something that is plainly there for all to see, then they just are either too dense to get it, or get it and do not want to admit defeat. for the record I do not think they are dense. _____________________
