The vast majority of people who make and sell things in SL are hobbiests, not professionals (which to me is a big part of SL's charm). If I buy something from someone that turns out to be not really ready for prime time I just make a mental note that they need a bit more practice and maybe I'll check their stuff again in a few months. It doesn't bother me because I tend to look at my purchases as a way of giving people encouragement. Now if they were using false advertising that was blatantly decpetive then I might be unahppy about it, but that's about it. I don't look at purchases in SL the same way I look at purchases made at a real world store. There I expect professionalism and quality products. In SL I don't have big expectations.

Nice way to put it all into perspective. :)

Agreed. I'm one of those RL companies Stay Out people. I'm going to buy from a resident 100% of the time if given a choice. . Not being a creator I marvel at all the things people make that I enjoy in SL. If you have spent the time to make it and think it's worth selling, good for you. I recently visited a shop owned by a forum member and bought several items, noting to return when I bought more Lindens as there were many items I wanted. When I returned, she was at the store, and thanked me, telling me I was her very first customer. That made me smile.

A lot of that is down to the price. When you're looking at something that costs only a dollar or two, which might have taken the person 10 hours of work to create, it isn't as bad as spending $40 in a real store to find it's broken when you get home.

A couple of dollars, sure it's annoying if what you bought turns out to be crap ... but I think it's because it's L$500 we tend to think it's worth more than $2.

Regarding purchasing "DVDs" - I don't know why people do that at all in SL. Half the time I get complaints about DVDs not working, it's because the url that they bought access to is bad and gives a 404 error, and they got ripped off. If you're going to watch a movie, do it in rl on your own tv or in theaters! In SL, at best, you're going to get a crappy copy from someone who probably has buttered, shaky hands.

I usually buy from the same place and these look very clear and the quality is great. But they ran out of this movie which I wanted to get so I went to a new place. And the result was as can be seen.

At times its ok to sit down with friends and check out a movie which is what I do at times.

Wait! Let me re-read this. Ricardo! You actually posted something positive about a SL vendor. Hold on....I'm writing this down on my desk calendar under this date.

Now, to be serious. I agree, Ricardo, that some things in SL aren't made well. Heck, some of the things I make probably aren't made well when compared to a lot of others. But I like making them, and if someone buys them, that's great. I've had no complaints so far, but if I do, I will do everything in my power to make it right. As I've stated numerous times before, I personally have never encountered a dishonest store owner in SL, but that doesn't mean they don't exist, I know. I've never personally encountered a python either, but I know they exist.

If I did encounter a bad store owner, or a bad product that wasn't made right, I would just never again purchase anything from that vendor. And would chalk it up to a lesson learned about that particular person or item.

P.S. However, I can't help but think that you get a little kick out of being able to post about *another* bad experience you've had.

I've read some interesting comments in this thread but I'm sorry to see so many of you wasting valuable time and effort trying to reason with Ricardo. If you haven't figured it out at this point his only purpose in these forums it to start flame wars. He will twist and turn and manipulate every word, then accuse you of doing the same. To his credit he's very good at it. Never, ever is the man wrong and everyone else in the world is an idiot.

If you find him entertaining then go ahead. Just don't plan to ever get anywhere with the discussion.

Not any more you're not. Now you're wiping it off your monitor.

We're a good team, Connolly. You keep serving them up and I'll keep swinging at them. I haven't done the Bombay tv gag in a long time! It was overdue.

Well, Ricardo, do you still work where it says you work in your profile here at the forums? If so, perhaps you could find a better copy of the movie in the evidence room at the office?

Didn't he once say he worked at a pizza joint?

(Yes Ricardo, I know, you're touched I remembered).

Bradley, you devil you. Yes, I called you Bradley but don't get too carried away. You just couldn't stay away from me now could you? For someone who supposedly puts me on ignore every other week you sure find the time to continue swinging by me.

Feeling lonely? What happen, Jumpy not on now? You're just jealous you're not getting any love right now. Don't worry, there's enough love even for you.

Ok, ok. Don't tell me I already know, you're putting me on ignore.....again. See you in a few days....again.

I just paid for the movie Aliens and Predators. The problem is it's a very bad bootleg copy of the movie. It's extremely dark and fuzzy and you can't really see it. I turned it off about 10 mins into the film. No use wasting time on something you can't see.

I wrote the person I got it from and very nicely I told them the condition of the movie. I added this movie shouldn't of been sold in the first place as you can't make out anything in it since its so dark. Now I'll see what happens but all too many times you get no responses.

This is exactly why I always say there are too many badly made items in sl. Not only badly made but many times the seller is aware of what they're selling. Something like this movie should of never been put on the market. I don't really care about the money I spent as I spend a lot more then that on stuff I sometimes don't even use. It's the thought of someone jerking people around selling garbage like this which happens all too often in sl.

Perhaps I am missing the point, but isn't it easier to plop the movie in your home DVD player and watch it on a full sized RL TV? Not only better quality or easier to see/hear and not dependant on bandwidth.

I think sometimes ppl try to take SL a little to far... heh

The legality of most (all) of these SL movie-streaming services notwithstanding, it actually is pretty nice to be able to sit down with your SL friends and MST3K a movie together.

It's not a perfect experience (grrr, quicktime) but it can be really fun for SL friends who don't have the option of sitting on the couch together in real life.

hhmmm I see. While the social aspect could be fun I have some concerns about how immersed I could become in the event when I am squinting to watch it... lol

But your point is well taken :)

I agree with you for the most part, Chip. Only there are some content creators, such as yourself that excel at your craft. From you and others who meticulously labor over, take pride in their work, and charge a fair rate, I do expect a quality product and I’m rarely if ever disappointed. Those just starting out and not coming from a professional graphics background, I don’t expect the same level of quality. Even then, I’m often pleasantly surprised by either their ingenuity, uniqueness of the product, or quality of the design.

On those occasions when I do find poorly made items, I just delete and go on. I won’t necessarily recommend them to friends, but I don’t trash them as creators either.

you can usually zoom in pretty close to where it is quite viewable. My TV at my home has a decent picture, and I can get it to almost fill the monitor screen. I went to the MST3K place recently, and I must admit it is one of the cooler places I've been to. We should have a party there.

The same could be said about music . Why go into a club, and sit, or try to Lag Dance when you can just put the CD into the home stereo and listen.
