LL Massive fail in progress?

Mainland prices continue to plummet, abandoned parcels increasing, product sales are drying up, numbers logged on dwindling. Is the sky actually falling this time?

If so, what can be done to halt the decline?

The number of estates vastly outnumber Mainland sims. The sky is not falling for LL. It's just Mainland prices that are tanking. Only those who want to recoup what they paid for their plots once upon a time and all the folks who enjoyed their adult plots and builds and are being herded off to the new "paradise" of Zindra are feeling the pain now.

But what is happening with the estate lands? Are island sales brisk? Are rentals on private estates at capacity?

Yes, and tie it to premium accounts.

Surely not, though I finally have to admit that I'm seriously considering throwing in the towel myself.

[ETA] And after getting 404 errors trying to submit this response, I'm just about out of patience with this company.

Can't save the mainland, but this will stop the 404's;

I for one am perfectly happy with my mainland. The surroundings of my two parcels on two different continents are far less chaotic than mainland used to be. Just wait for the Zindra dust to settle and it will be better.

My experience as well. I am not concerned with my property value, as I am quite content. Indeed, I now have abandoned land as my neighbor. So much that I feel like I own the sims.

Personal pleasure aside, my concern is for the well being of the SL economy in general.

I appreciate the helpful link, though I was already aware of the problem and the solution. It just happened that I was signed in as an alt that had not yet changed my settings for this account, and was annoyed that I had to deal with it yet again.

The fact that the forum 404 problem exists at all is just symptomatic of larger issues : Linden Lab does not care about the quality of it's product, the health of the SL economy, or the care and feeding of it's community.

It depends who you are. Some estates are going under, in the same environment where others can expand. Of estates run by friends, I know of one that grew about 25% last month and another that grew... 'negative 100 percent." Anshe also bought out Dana in entirety, recently, marking the end of an era. Amazingly, few people seemed to notice.

I'm standing pat for the next 60 to 120 days, but won't go into my reasons here. As usual, I have my own analysis of what the future will bring and am always working hard on something.

That said, adding a region only adds 2% to the landmass lately anyhow. One look at the map will give a very good impression of how Caledon is doing. I posted a time lapse of the last three months of activity recently for novelty's sake.

As for mainland, watch for what people with good quality information do (Elanthius, for instance).

Watching what Elanthius is planning is worrying.

I'm not sure about sales drying up, I see no signs of that. I guess it depends what you're selling and whether you adapt to a changing marketplace.

Mainland, yeah it's a worry, when prices are this low people will abandon and when people abandon that means there are plots that aren't generating tier.

That's the one that's worrying. I'm very skeptical that all the fall-off in peak concurrency is due to thinning of traffic-gaming bots and campers. If SL is not attracting new usage minutes as fast as its losing them to dabbling in Blue Mars, OpenSim grids, and (*shudders*) Real Life™, then LL needs to act quickly to avoid a spiral of marginalization.

Presumably, folks who flocked to SL because it was once the Next Big Thing are already long gone, but if it acquires the musty smell of once-shiny technology, the end will be near.

We need publicity. Some CSI:NY-like stunts.

Or a good sex scandal. I'm sure I have a penis somewhere. Come on, Jannae: take one for the team! ;)

Between adding 1500 or so homesteads in the last month or so, and 280 regions to Zindra, the amount of new land added to the grid recently was pretty significant. I think the suction from those is whats causing the mainland prices to drop.

On your adult land or my mature beach? And wouldn't more than one make for a better scandal?

Why? Did you not think there were that many bots? Are you thinking that with 10K fewer bots there'd be none left? Are you thinking that since you're still seeing a crapload of bots there couldn't possibly be 10K fewer on the grid?

I estimated last year that half the peak concurrency was bots. I'm not at all surprised concurrency can take the hit it's taken and not make a dent in the bot population. I also believe we're seeing a change in strategy for the bots runners, and that the slowness of the crackdown was designed to allow this change, and that ultimately most of the bots will remain.

Are you ready for shopping bots? The future is now.

Allocate a number of prims per sim to vast towers to hold the sky up. With megaprims, this should not be an untenable strain on sim resources. Or residents can wear hard-hats, although the current ANSI standards don't mention any protective value against falling skies.

This just in .. Brought to you by the SLVoice people (TM) ..

Integrated Webcam!

A new system will zoom in on your RL face and project it on your Avatar's face. It will of course be seamless and tint your SL skin to match and so on.

It also will not take much extra bandwidth and thus be lag free!

/me bakes up a rhubarb and strawberry pie for the orgy-goers. Sends an IM to invite Rush Limbaugh in his 12-year-old girl AV, HumanDebris LooseKnickers. Asks Jumpy to stop by with more orgy personnel. Sends an invite to Blue Linden for "an impromptu brown-bag meeting on constructive planning to move the forum community to SL Answers".

Calls CNN to line up a reporter.

He can speak for himself, but some of his words are already here, down in the thread a ways:

Another source of reliable data, by my lights:
