From: Feldspar Millgrove Accelerate the abandonment of Mainland parcels and encourage everyone to move to either Zindra, Bay City, or lease from (or purchase) private sims. This is a more palatable capacity consolidation and turnover strategy than kicking people off Mainland directly; let the economic forces do it. Then recycle the mainland capacity as sims For Education to school systems (teenagers/preteens, but not the Teen Grid) and Open Government portals and such. Try to get government (US "stimulus" and "infrastructure" money directly or indirectly. Expect all-new users and all-new content from the influx, with a long tail towards future revenues. There will be chickens in every pot. Yeah, that's where I want my tax money to go. They didn't waste enough of it bailing out failed banks and auto makers, or creating busywork jobs for people who will be unemployed once that money runs out. Let's spend more of it bailing out failed video game companies.

From: Couldbe Yue They're talking the talk though. http://dusanwriter.com/index.php/2009/07/28/linden-labs-grid-for-business-its-all-work/I can't think of a single reason apart from marketing that any company would want to be in here rather than a behind the corporate firewall using the LL product or the opengrid. There's no guaranteed data protection, there's always the risk of content theft, griefers, the unstable platform in general and the lack of consistent policies... Educators are no better, they too should be behind a firewall rather than trusting LL to keep secure their communications. The excuse that it's good for field trips is rather spurious. However it does make for better marketing and for a better reputation than sex'n'sleaze. But on the other hand getting The Government into SL makes sense. After all they are just a larger scale version of LL. Incompetent, cluless, and determined to do everything in the least efficient manner while trying to wring as much money as they can from us. It's a perfect fit.

but why would the goverment want to be in SL? Why wouldn't they just have their own grid or 20? I remember reading somewhere the army already has one.

From: Rock Vacirca It's not restricted to mainland either. Just done another impromptu check, and of all the 50-60 private island regions nearest me on the map, mine is the only one with anyone on it. Me I then do a generally random sweep in all directions, and it is almost impossible to find another green dot, and it has been like that for quite some time now. I can't imagine why so many people are paying private island tier, and not using them. Rock Maybe it's a timezone thing combined with summer in the northern hemisphere. The reason I think this is that when I am on from 12am SLT onwards I see a slight dip in the online numbers from before the northern summer started but not much really. I go to the always popular places, Franks, Bogarts, Sweethearts, etc. - all seem to be doing as well as ever with tons of real live people. My role-playing areas are about the same as they have always been for the people around them too. It could be mostly that people are out enjoying the better weather.

I thought land prices usually drop during the summer along with numbers logged in online SL.

From: Seven Okelli I have read that the US Army is trying to recruit inworld and that the FBI was planning on coming inworld ostensibly so they could have our help in finding bad guys. Cadet: "I've completed Academy training, sir. Top of the class." Smoking Man: "Hmmm.... I see... very good. I've got a very special assignment for you." Cadet: "Undercover, sir?" Smoking Man: "You could say that." Cadet: "I am ready. You can count on me. I have stood up to severe psychological testing and have trained in night fighting and situational awareness, as the need arises." Smoking Man: "Good, goooood... now, here. Log into Second Life after dinner, put on this cute little number and go catch us some pervs." Cadet: "Sir Yes Sir!" Cadet: "..." Smoking Man: "What's on your mind, son? Speak freely." Cadet: "I was just wondering if these shoes clash with the dress."

Meh, LL's been deliberately not pushing SL for quite a while now, damned if I can find now which of the blogs/forums/office hours/whatever it was where they mentioned that. They're supposed to start recruiting noobs again around the end of this year or beginning of next, a soft relaunch then is supposed to be what all the policy and tech and cosmetic changes have been about.

From: Viktoria Dovgal a soft relaunch then is supposed to be what all the policy and tech and cosmetic changes have been about. "soft relaunch", interesting. "Soft" launches usually do not involve a big change in marketing message. LL's been striving for more 'predictability', which has always sounded like some sort of code to me. Maybe all it means is that they've sorted SL all out - "for education, go here; for sex, go there; for music, go there, etc..". And I guess it also means that by year's end they will have offloaded all noob support and orientation to the community. .

Heh, I'm kind of calling it soft since they've laid out quite the tight rope for themselves. They knew going into this that they were going to alienate some of their older user base, Kapor was pretty blunt about that last year even while he glossed over the specifics. At the same time they have to keep enough continuity that most stick around. It would be nice if they started doing some of that "first look" stuff Really Soon, and hopefully not just with the viewer makeover. People really are getting uneasy in this holding pattern.

We need fresh advertizing

Free Press is needed in all Countries. Either by way of Press Releases even the press are short of stories So if anyone has any nice news or as usual scandel and bad news sells fast and the word spreads.
I came to know about SL due to such a bad story on the Radio in the UK wasnt the main story that interested me, but all that surrounded it.
I talk to so many People that have never heard of Virtual Worlds
Second Life is the leading World so please dont let it slip, its nice quirky entertainment So if anyone has any stories and know of any local Media workers, it all helps.
