Hi, whoever you are!

I see that my popular thread about the forum regulars and their in world group, The Forum Cartel, got moved to the Classified/Services forum.

I'm not protesting that, although it seems like a silly place for it. And I'm not protesting the fact that you, whoever you are, are staying behind the scenes and not posting your reasons for moving, locking, or deleting threads, as the previous ResMod did. It creeps me out, but if that's your preferred style, fine.

What I WOULD like to ask is that when you move or delete a thread, you leave a marker. A simple "Thread moved to XXXX" or "Thread deleted". "Thread locked" is sort of self-explanatory.

Just a little common courtesy. Please? Besides being polite, it would at least provide a minimum of feedback on what you consider an erroneous post, a little helpful reminder of what to avoid in future.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Wasn't that thread near the bottom of the second page? Ready to hit the third in an hour or so? Why not just let it die it's normal death? (to the mod, not you Lindal)

I agree with Lindal that leaving a marker of thread moderation action is common courtesy.

Many of the people in this forum are defacto volunteers, augmenting LL's support organization. They are adults deserving of respect. To move, delete, and lock their posts without comment is highly disrespectful. It also wastes your opportunity to educate the community on posting policies.

Whether a resmod or a Linden, a moderator is simply another member of the community. Moderators have a role which obligates them to exercise their judgment. However, no training or qualification process has occurred to ensure that moderators' judgment is flawless ... no one is ensuring that they are beyond human :)

Which is another reason why sharing the reasons you, the moderator(s), see for action would be a good thing. You may learn something as well!

I prefer the ninja stealth moderation -

keeps us on our toes cause we have no clue what the hell is being done to the threads.

You know, it doesn't bother me that much when there isn't an explanation, _but_ (taken from the forum guidelines)

Moderation Policy
Linden Lab provides these forums in the belief that promoting discourse and the sharing of ideas leads to a stronger, better informed community. We allow full freedom of expression, within the limits of the Community Standards. Generally we will not delete whole threads, except in special circumstances as noted below. Any editing or locking of threads will be accompanied by an explanation, to make our moderation decisions as transparent to Residents as possible.

Although, to be fair, it doesn't mention explaining a 'move'. I suppose the location it's been moved to is thought to be self-explanatory.

Moves kind of are self-explanatory. Even if you disagree with the move you know the reason it was moved was because a moderator deemed it was more appropriate for another forum. It was probably Millie. She moved Kain Cleaver's blatant promotion of his game product to the products forum and posted a reminder not to post in the RA forum for product promotion in sticky in this forum.

Considering the amount of drama that ensued over each and every thread lock in the past, I think stealth moderation is probably required. Much fewer "OMG my thread got locked, and the reason is unreasonable" threads.

I do not care either way, stealth or in your face moderation, it is just nice to know someone is doing something again

Um, have you read the thread Lindal is talking about? It has absolutely NOTHING to do with 'Services.'

With the exception of a few drama llamas, I can only recall rare complaints regarding locks with valid explanations. In fact, 'IBTL' wouldn't have achieved such vast acclaim if the majority of us weren't already aware what sorts of threads were likely to get locked.

It does not take that much effort to state something has been locked due to ARs, general inappropriateness, or what have you.

It is rather lame to move a question thread to an area that allows no responses

I expect someone thought I was "promoting" the in world group and The Place Which Must Not Be Named, and AR'd the thread.

I'm OK with that, it was skirting the line as far as that particular argument is concerned, and I knew it. But I wanted to tell you all how I felt about who you are and what you do...it was worth it.

But I do wish the mods would speak up, and leave signposts. I don't like to have to do a full Search to find my own threads.

I think it would have been more appropriate to lock the thread here than move it to Services. You mentioned that people who happen to wander by get help, but it wasn't any sort of advertisement for such.

Oh dear this is quite disturbing - do we have a mod now? << >>
I don't like things being moved with a reason either.
Did I miss who our new mod is?
Is it Mille?

Yes, Millie has moved some threads and locked some as well over the past few weeks. There have been some threads that have completely vanished also, however, Strife always said moderators don't have the ability to delete threads. If that's true then there would have to be some Linden involvement as well.

Or a hole in the Space /Time Continuum. Those threads could be winding up on a different Forum.

It's part of the internet forum exchange program. Al Gore invented it. The WoW forums get a bunch of our threads and we got Rebecca Proudhon.

(I'm kidding, Rebecca. I know you know that, but just in case, I'm kidding. It was a good one-liner and I couldn't resist.)
