Believe it or not, I was reading the articles, many of which were quite good.
There is nothing like an old cliche, eh?

Pep (And that must be one of the oldest.)

In most cases, I certainly despaired for the poor empty-headed darlings who bared their all for them, if only because "vacuity" seemed to be the primary content requirement for their blurbs. (I assume, however, that even the most intelligent woman would have been almost required to be vacuous by the mag's editors in such a context.)

And Playgirl sucked. And it was neither more, nor less, "PC" than Playboy (which also sucked).
RIIIIIIIIIIIIP!

/me gently tapes Scylla's mouth for 5 minutes, hoping the urge to make this thread seriously about something passes.

Did you miss out reading the question mark at the end of my sentence?

Pep (You can join 3Ring's "I only read the first few words before I reply" gang if you like; it has quite a few other members, so you won't be lonely.)

I read your question, Mr. Mensa....and it read with a tone of emotion and hysteria.

Well, it CAN be hysterical, when you have your humor turned on.

/pokes Pep here and there, looking for the "humor on" button.

:D
The "Paedophilia-humour on" button won't be found.

Pep (Not on me - obviously Chris thinks it's amusing; I wonder if he would if his little girl was the butt of the joke?)

The quote I gave was regarding US law. The same principles apply as in the UK. You incorrectly suggest publicly that someone is a paedophile and you will likely suffer recriminations.

Pep (Simple as that.)

I never mentioned pedophilia. you brought that up. Show me one case in recent US law where libel has been upheld when opinion and a public figure were involved. From reading the responses, reasonable people were able to recognize parody.

I am neither a public figure, nor was there any parody in your post, just malice.

Pep (As for the readers of this forum being "reasonable" . . . surely you aren't including Threeli and Mickey?)

You are arguing in public, you are a public figure. Reading minds now? Sounds pretty emotional to me.

I can't find the little cartoon character that represents a jealous rage. You know, the one with the green eyes popping out....that is letting his "little head" ramble incoherently?

/me admires Chris for not responding to this absurdity.

Now you're just being offensive, Pep.

I don't know about the UK, but drummed-up accusations of paedophilic tendencies are serious business in the US. One ... more ... accusation ...

Finger hovers above the AR button.

What arrant nonsense. Your argument is abysmally poor even by your standards. I walk down the street in public but that does not make me a "public figure" in the context of US libel law. I have also noted that unless your state has enacted "libel tourism" laws, you are subject to relevant decisions made in the UK. - see http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/greenslade/2009/oct/15/medialaw-usa

Pep (But this is all a red herring, compared with the horrendous central issue: that you find paedophilia amusing.)

Sometimes the photo features pissed me off. Sometimes not. In most cases, I certainly despaired for the poor empty-headed darlings who bared their all for them, if only because "vacuity" seemed to be the primary content requirement for their blurbs. Those blurbs are works of fiction meant to arouse the readers. They should not be relied on as accurate biographical information.

How am I being offensive in suggesting that someone who has implied that I am a paedophile might have a different opinion if his little girl was involved in such "humour"?

I am confused, Nika. You seem to be agreeing with my argument. Are you going to AR Chris?

Pep (Or perhaps you have failed to read the thread accurately?)

/me watches quietly, confident . . . hopeful? . . . that Nika can sort this nonsense all out.

BTW, did anyway EVER find any "dirty" content in National Geographic that was worth the time it took to flip through them? I never understood the point of that old cliche . . .

(/me was occasionally a very frustrated young adolescent . . . ;) )

NO, you aren't walking down the street. You are actively interacting in a public debate.

As for the British courts, I will steal a line from Andrew Jackson.

"The British courts have made their
decision, now let them enforce it."

They used to have naked native women pictures. But the Sears catalog was the gold mine.

That does not make me a "public figure". It *does* however mean that utterances qualify as being made in public, which is a requirement for libel.

Which they do all the time now you have got a little more civilised.

Pep (And you *still* refuse to face the underlying issue; you find paedophilia amusing.)

Yes, I'm sure you're right. Which is sort of what I was getting at when I suggested that even an intelligent woman would be compelled to come across as a moron in a context like that.

Which of course, raises the more important issue: what is it about vacuity in women that (some) men seem to find "arousing"? If I had to speculate, I'd say that . . .

/me eyes Nika and her duct tape nervously . . .

On the other hand, that might make for an interesting conversation some other day . . . :o

I don't recall the Sear's catalogue being such a "gold mine" for a young girl . . .
