Incorrect but defaming opinion is actionable

then shut your trap - cuz you are the king of this sort of shit.... that is, if this sort of shit had a king.

I'm a little puzzled by the supposed link between Eli's post and implied paedophilia.

in fact, it was the other way around. Pep has accused Eli and Chris.

You're forgetting Pep's Forum Rule #3. One he makes something up it's the god's honest truth no matter what anyone else says.

Surprisingly enough, I don't have a sense of humour regarding paedophilia.

Pep (In line with LL's attitude, apparently.)

Oh, I see.....one of your twists.

Which character will be roleplaying this exchange?

Mr. Mensa.....Mr. I use humor, and so should you....Miss Peppy.....Miss Sarcasm only works one direction.....Mr. I've been wounded and groveling for sympathy, exhibiting all the qualities that I despise in a female..........

.......or shall we see a new character for this one?

Yeah, seems a bit of a stretch . . .

Anyway,
What, Cosmo is ALLLLL about teh sexxors, why should it be a surprise that it might appeal to any man?

Particularly if they spend any time in the line at a grocery. I'm always amazed at what Cosmo gets away with, right next to the bubblegum. Gives me hope for the country, in an odd way. Collectively, we're generally such prudes.
:)

Sure, but why would any MALE want access to "50 New Ways to Make Your Man Beg for More"? Or am I missing something?

I can sort of see the value of Cosmo . . . I just wish there were something available with the same degree of "frankness" that was also even mildly literate and interesting.

Not to mention that I've tried 48 of those "50 New Ways," and only 12 of them were any good. :D

I'm thinking it might be Mr. Role Plays the Naughty College Professor In-World. :p

Since I am not in the UK and never intend to be......your laws don't matter to me. In the US, opinion is protected.

See Falwell vs. Hustler Magazine.
Not quite right, Chris. "jurisdictions have eliminated the distinction between fact and opinion, and instead hold that any statement that suggests a factual basis can support a cause of action for defamation."

Your initial statement implied a factual basis. "Reasonable" readers here in the forum with limited understanding of the nature of our relationship might have inferred that you *did* have factual knowledge, and accordingly you would be interpreted as attempting to defame my character. There is no issue of parody here in the forums, so your case law is not relevant.

Pep (In fact, it is entirely questionable that any attempt at humour here involving paedophilia woudl be considered acceptable, given LL's stance on the matter.)

Tell me you've never peeked into an article named something like "25 ways to make your woman beg for more", and I'll believe that you really don't get it.

I'll pity you, but I'll believe you.

Know your enemy?

Grasping at straws. Getting a bit emotional and hysterical?

Well, no . . .

Actually, Pep: true confessions time. At one time, for a brief while (when I had access to them because a partner was buying them), I read Penthouse.

AND ENJOYED IT!!!!

Nah, Chris, I understand law. To such an extent that I sue lawyers and win.

Pep (It's emotional and hysterical to point out rationally that you are wrong? :p )

Did you feel more, or less, degraded than the "contributors"?

Pep (Surely "Playgirl" would be more politically correct?)

You may well be right in the UK, but in the US, you will be thrown out of court. Simple as that. But you are the one pulling the emotional strings with pleas about how unacceptable the joke was.

Well, it CAN be hysterical, when you have your humor turned on.

/pokes Pep here and there, looking for the "humor on" button.

So we're dealing with the real life emotional and hysterical persona now?

Did you miss the "incorrect" word.

Believe it or not, I was reading the articles, many of which were quite good. Which is not to say that I didn't flip through the other stuff too.

Sometimes the photo features pissed me off. Sometimes not. In most cases, I certainly despaired for the poor empty-headed darlings who bared their all for them, if only because "vacuity" seemed to be the primary content requirement for their blurbs. (I assume, however, that even the most intelligent woman would have been almost required to be vacuous by the mag's editors in such a context.)

And Playgirl sucked. And it was neither more, nor less, "PC" than Playboy (which also sucked).

The quote I gave was regarding US law. The same principles apply as in the UK. You incorrectly suggest publicly that someone is a paedophile and you will likely suffer recriminations.

Pep (Simple as that.)
