From: AlexLee Saunders When SL is taken down for maintenance I will visualize thousands of people all over the world climbing shakily to their feet and getting their dusters out.
In fact, when SL is down, the global temperature probably rises by 1 degree because of the extra energy being spent.
Do we think there will ever be a recognised medical condition created for the fanatical SL user?
I sometimes suffer from "SL Shoulder" and in reference to my previous post "SL Liver"
<help me> No, see, the global temperature goes DOWN by a degree because none of our graphics cards are working over time and heating our houses. I'm in the process of detoxing my SLiver for the next few weeks. It's hell, believe me. It's second nature to just pop a cork on a bottle of vino in the evenings when I sit down in front of the puter.

From: Brenda Connolly Before I bought my own house, that's what I would do. I was the Ikea Queen. The stuff would last until I was ready for a new place. with th exception of my 2 TV's, which each are 15 years old and will be replaced this year, I went totally new when I moved into the house. SL really hasn't altered my housecleaning habits much. I'm a fairly good housekeeper, the only problems arise when RL gets too busy as well. then my free time is limited, and a choice has to be made between SL and Mount Washmore. Oooh! /me peers at the 4 differently sized Ikea coffee tables... /me tries to figure out how many pounds they way (I'm hiring a moving company which charges by weight) Yup. Out to the curb they go. Someone's going to get free coffee tables today. Brenda is my savior! Oh, and Trout, you're high if you think I'm doing U-Haul. Why, my delicate petal-like fingers would be so easily bruised! I've got a college education darn it. I'm not built for hard labor.

I also bought my own place last year and decided to throw/give away practically everything. Sort of like a cleansing, a new start. Never had that much to begin with - wherever I lay my hat... My TV was from 1983! (the reception was better than what you get now, but dang was it ever ugly) Now I regret a few throw-aways Not the TV of course, but some of my IKEA stuff, lol. I am officially getting off this forum and I WILL clean and sweep till everything is Spic&Span. Now if I can only find my broom...

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Oh man! This was like me not too long ago. It took over a year for the shiny shiny of SL to wear off, and me to pay attention to, you know, the house. I've learned to handle the mess like this: 1.) Pick up as you ago. Cups on the coffee table, mail lying on the kitchen counter, random underpants on the floor ... pick 'em up and put 'em away. 2.) Wash up as you go. If you've got a dishwasher, put your dirty dishes into it as soon as you're done with them. If you hand-wash, then soap up, scrub, rack ASAP. Like #1, this is seriously half the battle. 3.) If your schedule permits, pick Saturday or Sunday as Major Cleaning Day. In my house, this is the day when I wash towels, sheets, and clothes. I also clean up the bathrooms and the kitchen, and order my poor hapless boyfriend to attend to floors and toilets. It's Monday today, and the house, it sparkles. If the above doesn't work for you, then take brief breaks from SL to load the washing machine, put clean dishes away, etc. It's also a good time to stretch and get out the kinks from Derriere in Chair. As a side note ... having a clean house also helps with the SL addiction. The cleaner it is, the more I like to spend time doing other things, like curling up with a good book or puttering in the backyard. A messy house seems to lend itself to more time in SL, ignoring said messiness.

I try to do one mega cooking day a week, usually Sunday, so I can pack the freezer for a weeks worth of meals. Also if I do order out I usually get something extra for another night.

SL vs. RL
01-07-2008 13:51
Whenever I see posts like this I remember someone from very early on in my SL experience who said, "I hardly ever log on to real life anymore."
Keep in mind that neatness is highly overrated. I also recommend intravenous feeding and learning to sleep sitting up.

From: Oryx Tempel Huh, well I'm moving across country in roughly 15 days. I haven't even bought boxes or packing tape yet. Ugh. Maybe I'll just give everything to Goodwill. Congrats on big life change. Wish you the best in your new digs..maybe set them up so you can just hose them down?

From: Cherry Czervik See, it SHOULD help in some ways. If you're stuck at the PC with your cheese and onion sandwiches, you shouldn't be messing up the rest of your place! Yes I end up napping from about 8pm to maybe 1am ... getting up a few hours and then crashing again for a few before work. Weekends ... well ... what *is* sleep anyway?
Except, sadly, it still manages to get that way. Personally, I think it's Koko and her leafblower ...
For which nature provided us with the discus shaped vacuuming robot ... which I intended to get one of and now and all fired up for. Should work well on all the ceramic floortiles in my place RL. I've been tempted to get that thing..I have two furry dogs and we have tides of dog hair...anyone else use the robot vacuum and can tell us if it works?

From: Kidd Krasner If you need help getting organized and focused for housework, see http://flylady.net. Set a household timer to limit your SL time, before you login. Write down what you want to do in SL before you login, post it on your monitor, and stick to it, never adding anything once you start. Keep a pad nearby, so if you find something that you want to do but isn't on the list, put it on a new list for the next day. That helps get rid of the feeling "if I don't do this now, I'll forget". I thought it was a myth that folks like you existed! I will never, ever be able to do that..my happiest times come from being distracted and following paths I just discovered.. But I'm so happy that you can do this cause if it was up to me, the planet would be an unholy mess!

Life's too short
01-08-2008 09:22
Quentin Crisp famously said, "Life is too short to waste on housework, after 4 years the dust doesn't get any worse".
I keep my house bare enough not to have to waste precious sl time on the drudgery of rl housework. Consequently, I live in sl and rl is no hassle at all, lmao

The government will probably take 2/3rds of it and not give it to you until three years down the road. /me fingers Alcia's white frilly apron shaking her head sadly knowing it will get quite dirty when she cleans the commodes

From: Dnali Anabuki I've been tempted to get that thing..I have two furry dogs and we have tides of dog hair...anyone else use the robot vacuum and can tell us if it works? Roomba!!! Yay Roomba!! Yes, they work...yes, they take care of animal fur...but yes, you do need to empty them out after each session, and it helps to tap out the stuff caught in the filter... However, it takes 2-3 minutes to do that, over the trash can, compared to vacuuming... I have been amazed at some of the tight spaces it can get itself into, and then back out of - and it really does do a good job of covering all the floor area. And it finds it's own way back home when done!! (to the re-charge dock) Ah luuvvvss mah little Roomba!

with a frilly white apron ? WOW..so now, hire a maid, buy the best pc EVER and let me hear back from you in a month. Please tell me that money doenst buy happiness..sighs. Whoever made up that phrase was a liar, have you ever seen a homeless person skipping? Anyway..reading all these posts, makes me feel a bit more normal, whatever normal is. But its seriously an addiction, I swore last night, that today I wouldnt even turn on my computer. But then got a diet coke when i woke up, turned it on and said, well just until i drink a couple diet cokes. But 3 diet cokes later, Im still here, reading forums, checking emails, updating hippovendor sites..etc..and I look around my room and it gets overwhelming, the mess, the dirty dishes sitting on my desk, and I just sigh and say..well tomorrow I might 'feel' like doing it. Even my friends have given up on asking me to go do rl stuffs. IM HOPELESS!!!
