I was bad. REALLY bad. Then I leaned to clean up as I went along. Meals tend to be quick and come out of the microwave or get cooked in disposable aluminum pans.
They don't let me do laundry any more since the flood. Or maybe it was the burning shower curtains in the drier. Anyway, it gets dropped off a couple times a week on the way to work. They get put away when they come into the house, and I have this easy way to know when it's time for them to go back out by which way the hanger is pointing.
For the seed shells and feathers, scattered kitty litter, dog hair and dust. . .I got this discus robot thing that does a better job of clearing the floor than I ever did. (Y'all thought it was just a cute tag, huh?) I clean it's brushes when things are quiet in SL. /me takes quick glance into "Saving for a Scooba" jar.
At my desk, I keep things in boxes and drawers which get cleaned out. . .once in a while. And I have a trash can at the desk so things don't get opened or unwrapped and left behind.
Dogs jump into my lap to get groomed, so occasionally, my typing gets a little disjointed.
My girls take care of their stuff. Or not. Untidy teen rooms aren't uncommon with friends and family, so they don't stand out too much. And they've learned to have their clothes ready on laundry day, and to rinse and wipe, or discard their own dishes.
Saturday mornings are when it's time to do other more involved maintenance. OH--and I like that leaf blower idea!
The only real imposition on my SL time, is delivering and retrieving my wife from the dialysis clinic. Forty five minutes there and back again, twice a day, three times a week. Useless idle time in the car.

Great thread! I'm ok with housework, but I find that I dont eat and the worst one ........ I drink too much!!! Does anybody else find this? I get in from work, open up SL on my laptop, pour myself a glass of wine. Next thing I know I'm finishing the bottle!!! Admittedly the evening has passed too but, its costing me a fortune! Thank god for Tesco and their online wine deliveries

When SL is taken down for maintenance I will visualize thousands of people all over the world climbing shakily to their feet and getting their dusters out.
In fact, when SL is down, the global temperature probably rises by 1 degree because of the extra energy being spent.
Do we think there will ever be a recognised medical condition created for the fanatical SL user?
I sometimes suffer from "SL Shoulder" and in reference to my previous post "SL Liver"

From: Solanghe Sarlo My daughter would stand over me at my computer, watch me doing whatever SL thing I was doing and finally say, "Mom, um...do you want me to get those dishes/that laundry/that trash for ya?" To which I would reply, without looking up, "oh ya hunny, thanks". She would pat my shoulder in that "you're so weird" way and go do whatever it was for me. . What a nice child you have Mine was reduced to getting my attention by yelling, "This is Earth calling Mother, come in please!" Can't say I enjoy housework, but it gets done - eventually.

You're not a total loser. Wait, yes you are, but so am I. My dust bunnies have been breeding and there's no way to walk through the house without stepping on them. The dust is so thick on my furniture that just walking by leaves a streak. If I didn't have a kid to do the dishes, I'd be totally screwed.

From: Dnali Anabuki Yummy thank you so much for starting this thread. This has been on my mind a lot lately as I'm in the middle of a SL project that is consuming a lot of my time and I'm not even doing the little housework I used to do.
I'm one of those people who not only loathe housework, I really stink at it. It takes me far longer than it should so when I do it, it is very time consuming.
I am actually considering having cleaning help come in. Usually I have cleaning help if I have a RL show to do but now that I'm in SL so much, its like having a job again.
I just hate how messy the house is getting. And don't you find after being busy in SL, you feel like a rest? read a book, decompress a bit?
I'm not sure what the answer is but I for one do have to find one. It is not cool to be embarrassed about how horrible the place looks whenever I go outofworld.
I see scheduling as a possible answer but if you are inworld and working with different time zones, I find that time takes on a whole new meaning in RL too. I nap more than have a night's sleep now..does this happen to other folk too? See, it SHOULD help in some ways. If you're stuck at the PC with your cheese and onion sandwiches, you shouldn't be messing up the rest of your place! Yes I end up napping from about 8pm to maybe 1am ... getting up a few hours and then crashing again for a few before work. Weekends ... well ... what *is* sleep anyway? Except, sadly, it still manages to get that way. Personally, I think it's Koko and her leafblower ... For which nature provided us with the discus shaped vacuuming robot ... which I intended to get one of and now and all fired up for. Should work well on all the ceramic floortiles in my place RL.

I've decided that the boxes that I never unpacked from the last major move are obviously unneeded, since I can't even remember what's in them. Out they go, straight into the trash. Whew, that's easy!
I love it! Every time I ever moved I realized I didn't like owning a lot of stuff. Now not only have have I lived in the same place for 20 years with a husband who's a comparative pack rat, it's the house I grew up in and there are cupboards and drawers stuffed with who knows what that my family started collecting almost 60 years ago! And the garage... At our house when we need something we don't use very often it's almost easier to go out and buy a new one than to find the old one...Still can't remember where we packed away the Christmas decorations three years ago... No wonder I'm so compulsive about keeping my sl inventory. super organized and pared-down! But some of the posts here are convincing me that we are actually pretty good about putting things away and cleaning up as we go along.

If you need help getting organized and focused for housework, see http://flylady.net. Set a household timer to limit your SL time, before you login. Write down what you want to do in SL before you login, post it on your monitor, and stick to it, never adding anything once you start. Keep a pad nearby, so if you find something that you want to do but isn't on the list, put it on a new list for the next day. That helps get rid of the feeling "if I don't do this now, I'll forget".

From: Kaimi Kyomoon ... I realized I didn't like owning a lot of stuff ... there are cupboards and drawers stuffed with who knows what that my family started collecting almost 60 years ago! ... This, plus we live in a small house. I finally came to the realization that this type of behavior is a good argument FOR spending money on SL. I've bought so many guitars, ATVs, you name it ... stuff ... toys... it all just becomes unused JUNK that takes up space. When I look honestly at how much pleasure I get out of a $500 guitar, and compare that with the pleasure I get from SL, the $30 or so per month spent on SL is a real bargain. I enjoy a hell of a lot more time on SL for every dollar, and it doesn't clutter up the house.

lol, omg! We live in a small 2 bed flat in a high rise block. All the rooms are tiny but they are just ok for what we need. Ok, now picture how much junk a 5 person family has when they have lived in a huge 3 bed house for 16 years. Picture that much junk in the tiny flat. Erm....Yeah

Sl...

Omg I've lost weight since I've been on here just cuz I don't want to take time to get up and eat. The attraction to play is strong as the game (even with the lag and SL issues) has so many wonderful facets to it. The only advice I can give is at times you just have to say no and not click on. Not that I follow that advice or anything...

From: Isabeau Imako Happy moving, Oryx! (at least, let it be stress free...) I've moved over thirty times and the packing is the worst part Once you've arrived, and the last box is finally through the door, it's great. A whole new world to investigate! Then the packing simply becomes a bad memory quickly forgotten, (a little like childbirth I hear). She'll have a whole new world to investigate and she'll be so busy playing around on SL that she won't see any of it. Exploring a new place in RL is the best part about moving. Take time to do it, Oryx, and good luck with the move. I hope you avoid the weather this time of year. The last time I moved it was the worst February on record in this area. Snow and ice storms don't mix well with a big U-Haul truck.

I am an awful neat freak or at least I used to be up until a little over a year ago.. I thought to myself, I need to get someone else to clean my house because it just isnt going to happen by me *ohh geeze nooo, I can't have anyone looking over my shoulder and seeing me in sl while they are vacuuming my floor.* Often I will look out the window at the neighbors doing their yard work and think to myself "why don't they get an sl life and let their yard just go to hell like I have mine. "
Why in the heck would I want to do house work when I can hardly drag my ass out of bed to go to the bathroom. Yes, my laptop sits on my bed that way if I wake up in the middle of the night I can just flip up the lid and look at my nice little sl house all cluttered with poseballs. types into chat /1hide, wish to heck I could do that in my rl

I dont even have to go into sl any more to get side tracked. Just turn on the pc and the IM's from my sl friends start lighting up. Here we go again, no rl work will be getting done today. Right now I am trying to stop a lovely rp IM with a good sl friend. Maybe I should just reach over and slap Him on the rump but I doubt if He would get the idea he would just slap my rumb back.
Do you think the IRS will understand if they don't get my 2007 tax return until after I am rl dead?
