hello all.. i was looking at some homestead prices just to be looking. not buying yet anyway. but what i figured up this particular place would cost me about 123$ a month and i look at the price of homestead in sl . com and it says 95$.. i understand its cheaper cause the owner has to also buy a region to get the homestead for 95$ but my question is.. that is maybe a 30$ profit a month . is this the kind of profits u can get if u are a actual owner? i mean is this in the ball park of what u may be loooking at? this person also claims to not be the cheapest. but the best .

There is the initial setup cost that the estate owner has to pay. Which is $375 for homestand, to at the $30 'profit' it will take about 1 year to just break even.

Pricing for Homestead regions comprise a setup fee and monthly maintenance fees: Setup fee of $375 Monthly fee of $95/month, increasing to $125/month in July 2009 Homestead regions are available only to Full region owners. Also, the Owner and the Payor for Homesteads must be the same person. _____________________

just trying to learn as much as i can cause i wanna quit my rl job too also i guess im asking is 30$ profit considered good? or bad? and i understand that the owner has to pay 375 to buy the homestead.. but he is also charging me so much up front also .. im just curious if this is the kind of profits we are looking at here ![]() |

You'll probably find that he's making millions of L$. If he was making millions of US$, he wouldn't quitting his plumbing job - he'd have quit it some time ago.

It takes work, time, skill, marketing, and money. You will lose money to start with, period, and eventually be able to break even. Keep going and you will make a small profit, and if you do well enough you could support your RL via SL, but it would take as much work and time as any RL job, if not more. _____________________

Listen carefully...
There are no "get rich quick" schemes in Second Life that work any better than they do in Real life. They are either frauds, or crooked operations. Many people who have a Homestead sim now for rent thought, just like you, that if they just went out and bought some sims the renters would come swarming, and the money would start flowing. And they found it was a money pit. A constant loss. You can not, under current pricing, rent a Homestead sim to someone else at a rate that is comparable, in terms of price per prim, to either a Mainland rental or to a Private Island sim rental. So now they are stuck with these sims, and faced with either abandoning them and losing their set-up costs, or trying to at least make them cover the month to month expenses. _____________________

secret to business success in SL:
Find something people want to buy. Make that. Repeat. For most businesses in SL, just "breaking even" is the definition of success. If the money you make ingame, is equal to the amount of money you spend.. then you're already doing better than most businesses in SL. Even just breaking even will take hours of work, real work, every day. _____________________

wow ceera that sounds kinda spooky that u put it that way . but i need to hear it . so if the owners wanna get out how do they sell it back to LL? do they auction it off? in mainland does that work differently if u buy it from LL? and is it harder to get rid of islands verses mainland property? it sounds like even if i have the money to do it.. if it doesnt work im stuck with the payment or give it up and call it a fun experience. hehe

If you're really trying to make money in Second Life, land is probably not the way to do it. Whatever you do, you're not going to get it right the first time, or the second, or in most cases, even the twelfth. If you're aspiring to be a fashion designer, a programmer or an animator, twelve mistakes will cost you between nothing and a few hundred lindens for uploads, at most. Twelve mistakes in dealing land could easily cost you thousands in real life.
That doesn't mean that you can't make money by dealing land, but it's risky, and expensive, and you really need to know what you're doing. |

Do your thing, and do it honestly, and eventually you can make money. It's not easy, at all, and there are people who've been trying for years and still fail, but it is possible. _____________________
