I agree with you. However, I have been in love in RL and I have been in love over the Internet and in both cases the emotional effects on me were the same.

Yet, I must point out that I am odd type who is attracted to the mind, personality and body in that order. They can have a perfect body or a warm personality but if they are as thick as two short planks then there is no hope. I can tolerate, over look and understand a great many personality quirks and their physical appearance means very little to me. I am actually naturally repulsed by people that are too perfect or cleave too closely to what societies ideals are.

So, the body helps for the initial attraction in RL but does little to hold me. I think it is a neat little short cut to be exposed to their mind and personality here first.

Oh, on a side note, 1/8 Americans are meeting their spouses online now.

Hey Cat, yeah you can have sex here. It's one way of self-pleasure that is shared by someone else doign the same thing in any place on the globe (which is mind-boggling in itself) I think its a really cool thing to actually be intimate with someone else in such a free and uncompromising way and I encourage you to at least explore its possibilities. Most peopel realize sex is 90% in the mind anyway and sl just presses the right buttons. If a person is shy, it may be hard to indulge but if you love self-expression and love intimacy on so many levels with an inifinite variety of strangers, then sex is sl is a rainbow.

Normally, just wearing new clothes should not change your look - unless you wear a new avatar from Library. If you wear the whole folder you get skin, shape and hair replaced too, not just the clothes part.

In real many partners fantasize about their mate. Isnt that a bit cartoonish? What is this hangup people have about sex being a serious real process. Why can't it be a laugh and a titillation? Can't we just enjoy a brief encounter and not get so nit-twisted?

I agree but in a virtual world we have to apply virtual laws. The excitement comes from seeing what avatars are capable of.
Morality is also worthwhile taking a look at.
I dont feel particularly guilty about having sex with other men besides my partner. It's teh shades of knowledge we have for the people we partner here. It's hard to know them deeply so we dont feel the same intense moral link. Yet we say we "love".
Obviously then we have shades of love.
and certainly sl is safe for experimentation. No HIV and no STD is a releif. No unwanted pregnancy and no "good angel bad angel"
Apart from basic human laws that we recongize as essential, our escapades and our numerous partners can enliven us.
