Um, OK, I take your point here. Granted, procreation via the Internet is not (yet) a reality. But Des, if we throw out the relationship aspect of it, the emotion...and just leave the pixels humping each other on the screen (like those poseball campers), then I would say you have nothing left. As, perhaps, you would too.

But Jig asked, "How many people have you slept with in SL?" "Slept with", to me, and I think to most people, implies more than just the mechanics of procreation. I do not consider that I have "slept with" a man who rapes me, for example.

I am not "cofusing" sex and relationships. They are, by nature, inextricably entwined.

To some, that seems a no brainer. But not to all. That is why you have people actually checking the '500 or more' box, and telling the truth, too. Hop on, hop off, walk away, no relationship required.

If we narrow the scope of "slept with" to only include cases that involved an emotional connection, then I'd have to drop my number from around 50 to.... 3. The rest of the encounters were the equivalent of cartoon porn.

Those 3 also involved knowing the person in RL.

I have to say, that I am glad I did not shy away from the relationship possibliity in SL. My current g/f is an amazing woman who has changed my life (in SL and RL), and I daresay that I hope we're together for the rest of our lives. The emotions and feelings are completely instinguishable from the real thing.

Which makes me wonder how many OTHER words have come about because of a typo. Or maybe my nose was stuffy when I wrote that.

Still, "cofusing" has its charms, I must admit. Its roots would be (if I'd done it deliberately) "co-", indicating a cooperative or bidirectional activity, and "fusing" indicating a joining or fusion. And it has that shiny sense of technobabble, a slick modern word for a slick modern internet world.
