What are the 3 things you most dislike about SL or your SL experience?

For me, my top 3 things are:

I dislike:

#1 - Land tier fee's - they are too high

#2 - Age play Paranoia - it has created a climate of fear when it comes to kid av's that is just wrong and reminds me of the communist fears of American history.

#3 - The disjointed new resident experience. It needs to be standardized to some degree with basic rules and how to guides pre-loaded into inventory and displayable as a Help Hud button that does not take up a hud slot and is clearly visible for new residents to call upon for help.

What are the 3 things you dislike most about SL? And let us not critique what others think SL needs, etc. It is about sharing ideas, not tearing down each others opinions. :D

(Isablan Neva indirectly gave me the idea for this thread. Thanks Isablan!)

1) I hate the clique factor in SL.
2) I hate that it takes forever to rezz
3) I hate the lack of attachment points as well as layers of clothing. Wish there was one more layer for pants.

I'll go with #1 & #2.

For my #3 I'll add: The "Disney-fication" of Second Life.

I miss the chaos. The "WTF-Is-That?" experience.

I am a 40 year old Male. I do NOT need to be treated like a 10 year old. I want my pRon!!! I want my "OMG! Did you see that??" stuff!!! If I want to hang out with "kids" I'll go to the nearest school with a van & bag of candy.

I do NOT want a "Safe" & "Corporate" Uniform User Experience.

Quickest way to make me LEAVE.

Heh! Even when I took my ex-fiancee to a Goth Club, and we expected to be with folks who didnt fit into cliques, there were still cliques. Seems to be a fact of life.

I hate cliques.

1. Griefers - Look at me, i have 100 Alts that all will be back later after this one is banned. Grrrrrrr!
2. Spampires - Go bite your own A$$!
3. Idiots that just stand right in your face when you are out and about with your other half.
(3a). Peeps that ALWAYS say in Forums "I have been here Eons, blah blah, blah" I don't particularly care how long anyone has been in SL. If i choose to just log on and have fun and not build, create etc should i leave SL as i am not worthy? Please stop pushing the "I am an Old Sweat" crap.

2. Bandwidth pits. Lately I've also noticed my avatar will freeze in place, and if I look at the stat bar, bandwidth has plummeted to 0 or close to it. A few moments later, it snaps back up and works normally for a while?

That! I have this problem very bad.. and have a real hard time getting on and staying on because of it. It is really spoiling the game, my bandwith 0 pegs don't come back usually.. I am just dead in the water.... I'll include the sim crossing problem here cause they are both tech problems and should count as one :o

Two would be having my tickets and logs begging for help on the problem totally ignored, which has lead me to decide not to re-up my premium dues on my next bday.

Three would be the arbitrary way the rules are enforced and the total disregard for any fairness I've seen coming from LL.

I need a four.. high tier is killing and why not allow people to buy homesteads without having to buy a full sim first?

#1. Land Fees
#2. not being able to share your inventory with your own IP based AVIs is my biggest complaint. I understand as a creator that you do not want things transferred. You want to get paid for the work you put into it. But let's say a person has created 2-4 AVIs. and then they deiced to get rid of 1 or 2 of them. Why can't it be allowed to transfer items between your own AVIs. LL knows who owns what AVI. Why can't they allow you to transfer things between owner AVIs.

1. Getting stuck in the teleport. Just watching that blue line crawl across the screen and stop...I really feel like I'm dieing.

2. Not being able to animate fingers and thumbs - more generally, not enough joints in the avatar skeleton.

3. Not being able to attach an object to more than one avatar attachment point, e.g., attach both hands to the same object.

as a relative newbie, i'd say several things are annoying....at least 10 in fact:
1. random friendship and tp requests
2. being unable to hide the fact that you're online
3. getting spammed and crashing
4. newbies without any sl etiquette
5. high price for low prim stuff
6. the chaos at orientation island
7. lost, duplicated items and muddled inventory
8. vampires
9. avis who claim to be the sl 'police'
10. bad behaviour at sandboxes

In this order:

1) the monthly cost of my Island
2) the way my upload fees tend to add up :)
3) and the as of yet lack of support for .obj uploads

Also wish that when LL creates a post asking for input that they would actually listen

I'm not a newbie anymore, but I'd agree with all these except would tweak #4 to read: 'People', not newbies in particular. There are plenty of 'oldbies' out there with no SL etiquette, or any other kind either.

1. arbitrarily removing certain graphics effects from the preferences of users with older graphics cards that either can still render these graphics or used to be able to render them (i'm not sure but i guess this would be summed up in one word: windlight?)

2. the invasion of rudeness (mainly from alts without profiles) throughout the grid, especially at initiation centers

3. more lag, worse performance, and slower fps than when I was new in 5.2008. It should be getting better, not worse.

I have only one thing I truly dislike about Second Life. Linden Lab, as a company, is an unashamed serial liar. I would be very forgiving of the myriad of Second Life problems if Linden Lab were just an honest company.

THIS

When a user base of a platform can no longer trust LL to spit and actually hit the ground there is a major problem happening

that when your tier is due eg: oct 5th say ..........."that on the the 4th at one minute after midnite they take the tier ! so really your tier date is the 4 not the 5 ! you would think that if it was the 5th then at 12 midnite of the 5th they would take it out ..? is that greed? or just lack of respect to the people that spend alot to be here... very inconsiderate i would say
then of course the texture rez. lag. etc
and last "to many rules and paranioa over kid avies. adult content i always thought you had to be 18 or older to be in SL ..and i would think that by that time..people would know where to go and where not to in there respective avies. lol...

Three things I dislike about sl?

1. The rudeness of people who are only rude coz they think they can get away with it here - in real they are prolly bum-lickers.
2. Rudeness.
3. Rudeness.

Lag, particularly the 'pot-holes' caused by the appearance of a new Mono script in a sim, but secondarily any similar region-crossing, rubber-banding or teleport-crashing instances of same.

Avatar mesh limitations, especially around the crotch & buttocks.

The smug superior attitude of first-line support, be it live chat or via ticket. If my ticket tells you I've already tried clearing my cache and relogging, don't ask me to clear my cache and relog. Especially if my problem is "Having problems logging in".

That reminds me of an incidence I had with a Net card company years ago. I had a 266mHz machine (yeah it was that long ago) and I bought a highly rated network card for it since we were getting cable internet for the first time. Installed the card no problem, Installed the driver no problem, did all asked for reboots etc, GOt online no problem, went to shut down the machine problem....every time I picked shut down the machine restarted itself.

I called tech support

tech support tells me

Step 1 turn off your machine and reseat the card.
Well if I could freaking turn off the machine I wouldn't have been calling!

After 4 hours with these idiots and the tech support guys finally telling me to call an exorcist he had no clue what was wrong, I finally unplugged the machine yanked out the card and bought a different brand
ZERO problems

sometimes LL is like that and makes me REALLY understand what going postal is about

1) LL communication (or lack thereof)

2) lag inworld (grey textures, rubberband effect, walking thru floors again)

3) the direction LL seems to be taking SL - adult content, the corporate crap, etc...

QFT

LOL - I try to go to Zindra to find cool new adult stuff, (see! You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! I can conform with the best of them!) and I can't even walk. What a joke.

Giant avatars
10-16-2009 16:18
From: Pserendipity Daniels

1. Short avatars.
2. Slavery.
3. Stupid people.

My dislikes are:
1. Giant avatars. It's ridiculous to make oneself 2.50 m tall.
2. Giant avatars. Full region is only 256 x 256 m. Somebody said sims are too small...
3. Giant avatars. Small sims get soon filled up with oversized things made for giant avatars.

Did I mention giant avatars ... ?

1. The sound bug that has turned SL from a multimedia experience into a mono-media experience which "WorkingOnIt Linden" has been "working on" for a year without success (https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5985). This makes not only clubbing almost impossible, but makes attending classes or doing anything voice-related impossible. The fact that LL support lied about this - telling me it must be my PC/sound card etc - causing me to spend significant sums of money before discovering there was a JIRA and it was actually a known bug - didn't help either.

2. The fact that LL rulers don't work - they measure up to the middle of your head - and that 1.80m avatars are considered to be "children", because as every fool knows adult humans are all well over 7ft tall in real life. If LL had used something arbitrary like "Linden Cubits" for measurements instead of a real units like metres, it would have made less of a mockery of the system.

3. Arbitrary rules for banning people without telling them why, rather like "The Trial" by Kafka. Of course, if someone does get banned, LL get to keep any money the person has invested.

Depending on your proportions they can be above or below your avatar height. The agent height is the height of the collision envelope for the agent in the simulation, which is only the crudest possible approximation of the avatar.

They seem to be usually within 20cm, and I am speculating that this is because 10cm is the amount of slack the physics engine allows in its approximation of prims, so you can still get through a door that's 2m high with your 2m avatar even if the door's collision envelope is 10cm below the visible edge of the lintel and the floor's 10cm above the visible floor level.

Really? All the SL rulers I've seen (apart from one which rezzes a prim that you walk into and gives an accurate measurement) all return the height to a "bounding box", and seem to be consistently 17cm shorter than the actual av's height - regardless of whether the av is 1.30m or 2.30m.

Human avatars, even frankenbarbies, usually have about the same proportions (relationship between the lengths of the parts of the body, not the absolute body size). Non-human avatars push the limits in other ways, and I'm pretty sure I've had some of my avs completely engulfed by the "avatar ruler" boxes. I'll double check next time I can get in-world (won't be until tomorrow some time).

Edit: You seem to be right, now. I was unable to get myself engulphed by the box. I'm pretty sure that was possible before Havok 4. Which does raise the question... if the sim can correcly calculate the height of the visible avatar to create the collision envelope for it, why the hell can't the client... which is actually rendering it... calculate the height well enough to reliably place the damn nametag ABOVE your head?
