Morning Threadies...

First Off Thanks to Everyone that came to the Pool Party Yesterday.

For my picture of the day, this is my friend Mike's 1952 Split Window Volkswagen Beetle. The car is actually older than I am. It has a huge Turbo Charged VW Motor. For those of you unfamilar with engines. The engine uses exhaust gases to turn a compressor and increases the air inlet pressure into the engine. This engine produces 28psi of boost pressure allowing the engine to take in more air and fuel. Needless to say this Bug is Super Fast. Yes, it is street legal.

"CX"

Good morning, CX...thanks for the pic of the VW. That is some engine...and look how clean it is!

Um..are all car engines supposed to look that tidy, or is it just because it's a special VW? I shudder, thinking what it looks like under the hood of my Honda...:o

Your list makes me add some to my list as well :D
Golden Earring
Within Temptation (opening act for Rammstein)
Kane
Live

For seeing Kathy play, I envy you! Even though most of my list is rock and hardrock, I have all of her albums. For sitting out an entire Phil Collins concert you deserve a medal though *grin*.

Somehow I expected this reaction  Since I think in pictures, the provocation was worth it too!

Of course to each their own, many people cannot understand I enjoyed Motorhead either ;) To be honest I even have an album of Phil, but never play it. His voice is great but his music... well it's not my cup of tea.

Thats a custom duct which places the carb before the turbo inlet? That's rather unusual, no? "street legal"??? I know it predates catalytic converters by a longshot...but there's no muffler? It's gotta be friggin LOUD!

Because the engine is exposed and has lots of polished chrome and aluminum parts it is easy to keep clean. It isn't a daily driver so it doesn't pick up much road dirt.

Once a year you should take your car to a detail shop and let them detail the entire car. It should be a place that hand washes the car not one of those drive thru car washes. Down here it runs me $110 to detail the Thing or $175 to detail Black Betty(Ford Excursion).

Custom duct, most turbos boost before the Carb, he liked the way this looks better. It is actually compressing the air / fuel mixture. Stock cars run 7-9 psi of boost.

Louisiana requires cars to meet the requirements of the year of manufacture. In 1952 there was no requirement for a car to have a muffler. Yes it is very loud, while it is registered and licensed he does not drive it on the street much. It really is not good to drive for any great distance. It would overheat very quickly if driven more than a mile or two.

too small a radiator in the rear? Must be a demon on the strip tho, 12.15 is it's quarter mile? NH makes you rollcage anything that can do under 13. Kinda hard to picture a rollcage in a "punchbuggy" :D

When I worked in Houston, the parking garage offered the service. They fixed dents, changed windshields, washed, waxed the car and cleaned the engine. Look for a place with a bunch of really clean "Fast n Furious" cars hanging about is also good.

When they clean the grooves in your chrome trim with a toothbrush you have been detailed. :)

Ani deFranco

Wow, never ran into anyone that knows her! She stayed with us during her 'not a pretty girl' tour wayyyyyy back when. I first ran into her in a fairly dark spot and said "wow, for a second there I thought your hair was green". Then we walked into a better-lit space... :D

I once flew all the way to Arizona for a Rush concert. And they're Canadian !

:D
