Don't know if this will work, but.......

To bypass a website block/filter, simply enter that websites IP address in instead of the actual site address.

Yeah this works too, but you still risk cookies, web tracking, and virus infection. Viruses and adware are sure fire ways to get IT to investigate the source of infection.

What is a horrific situation for an average computer user is a simple irritation for an everyday geek. To bypass a website block/filter, simply enter that websites IP address in instead of the actual site address.
Unfortunately, our security geeks are very very good. I've tried bypassing it that way and it doesn't work.

Using your own PC is the best was to work around work's filters. By doing this you don't risk work being tracked via cookies and web history because all of that is on your home computer.
Microsoft's Remote Desktop Client, which comes with Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008 and Windows Vista for Business and Ultimate is an option if you use MS products.
MS products are targeted more than any other for security leaks, so I have a tendency to avoid them. I've got my home pc locked down to not allow any sort of MS Remote Desktop connections.

All true that's why I qualified it with "is an option if you use MS products." From reading your other posts I kind of figured you'd not like the idea.

I won't quibble with you either, since I wasn't particularly saying "yah boo sucks" (in my inimitably intellectual fashion) to *you* but to the combined posters who had not bothered (as I had) to check the registration and seen that the site was up for renewal - and I don't know of any registrars that allow claim-jumping any more (they would lose too much credibility and revenue) so it was obvious that Cristo had made an oversight.

Pep (I have a nasty habit of being right on the minimum of information - and I don't make a drama out of nothing either, as some appear to.)

PPS I am enjoying your "Letters to my father" too; a clever way of avoiding even the remotest possibility of hurting your family.

And I appreciate the comment on my blog. Late yesterday I took it down again, though. I need to find a viable long-term format that I'm comfortable with. I just haven't hit on it yet.
